Still no Mata for Shrewsbury, but Crocombe makes his competitive debut for Albion as they lose 2-1. Kiwi stopper comes off the bench in the first half (1-0 Shrewsbury)

https://www.burtonalbionfc.co.uk/news/2023/august/match-report-for-shrewsbury-town-vs-burton-albion-on-15-aug-23/

(Jamal) Blackman’s night was over midway through the half after a sharp turn inside his area clearly aggravated something, and the stopper was unable to continue meaning a debut for Max Crocombe from the bench.

Still no Mata

Sounds like he has got his work permit, but he's carrying an injury niggle unfortunately.

Flying Kiwis.

Matt Taylor: “We found out after training on Thursday ironically that Max would be available. However, unfortunately, in that last 10 minutes in training he hurt his calf slightly. It is nothing serious, he is out for five to seven days so we anticipate he will be available for next weekend. It’s been an arduous process, I know that, in terms of the amount of the work the football club has done and Jayne (Bebb) has done - the club secretary – to try and get us to a point where he would be available. I just want to say thank you to her and I also want to thank the chairman because it’s not been cheap either.

We have done all we can, I know Jayne has done all she can, it’s just really disappointing Max won’t be involved today because of a slight calf tear. But he will still score goals for us and we are only in the fourth game of the season. It will be nice for him to be
in the squad next Saturday.”

Shrewsbury benefit from Fleetwood finishing the game with 9 men.

Potentially a couple of Kiwi's involved in this EFL Trophy group game.

Max Mata in line for a first start against Forest Green perhaps?

Jamie Searle with a chance to get a start in a cup game too, having been second choice for the start of his side's League Two campaign thus far.

3-0 win for Forest Green, so a clean sheet for Searle. Mata off at 62 mins (2-0) for Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury (18th) travel to Oxford United (2nd).

Mata hasn't scored for his new L1 club yet, but presumbly is doing the target man hold up play well enough to be starting. I'm sure he's keen to get that first goal. Shrewsbury now scoreless in 6 consecutive L1 & EFL Trophy games. Only 4 goals so far in 9, L1 matches.

Subbed on at 64 mins (2-0), in a 3-0 loss. Shrewsbury (19th) no goals in 7 games now, so pressure on Mata & his team mates to score. They went down to 10 men at 58 mins (1-0) in this one.

Surprise surprise Shrewsbury no goals in a 2-0 loss. Mata on at 78 mins (2-0). Didn't help the Shrews that they played from the 4th min down to 10 men.

They have a paltry 7 goals in 15 L1 games.
