Michael Fitzgerald (Albirex Niigata)

Two current New Zealand U-20 squad members Wellington Phoenix sensation Marco Rojas and Birmingham Citys Luke Rowe have been included and Herbert may use the opportunity a tour to Asia provides to cast his eye over J-League fullback Michael Fitzgerald.
He's 22 at the moment. Is he even young enough for the Olympics next year?
Michael comes highly recommended and is already in this part of the world. He has the ability to play as an attacking fullback and we need to find someone to fill that role in the future. Im looking forward to seeing him, Herbert said.

Would you like me to bring over a straw hat so you can EAT it.
Only cameo against China and playing in a division who's quality is about the same as the ASB Premiership?
Bring him to Wellington.

Very new here so excuse me if am wrong but the kid is only 22 and seems to have done pretty well for himself. I dont care if he plays in europe or japan as long as he can play for us
I would have thought that playing for the AWs wouldn't make a difference to him being able to get japanese residency? For example, I don't think Smeltz counts as a foreigner for GCU cos he has an Aus passport even though he plays for NZ? Same with Moss maybe?
Some countries have stricter controls on citizenship. For instance if you have German citizenship and you would like to apply for citizenship of another country you have to write in reasons why you need the citizenship of the other country and then they decide if yes or no.
I think that the J league must operate the ACL's 3+1 rule so to not waste the 3 overseas players they wanted Fitzgerald to get citizenship (or maybe you have to eligible to represent Japan which, as this was a friendly, shouldn't hinder him if he wants to play in Japan but not represent the All Whites in official FIFA comps).
If he was Australian or NZ was apart of the AFC then he could fit into the +1

Fitzgerald played the 2010 and 2011 seasons on loan at fellow JFL club Zweigen Kanazawa, and will look to help Nagasaki in their promotion quest to J-League Division 2.
In Japan, Michael Fitzgerald began the season on loan with V-Varen Nagasaki and put in a solid 90 minute shift as his side began on a winning note beating Yokohama SCC 2-1 at home in the third tier Japanese Football League.
Maybe he is going to be an option in the future, with keat, as a replacement for Elliott and Brown, as a defensive midfield
