He’s saved 3 from 3 now
Michael Woud (Auckland FC | A-League)
Wow it’s 1-0 to WII, from six penalties
5 out of 6 penalties missed so far, Willem II goalkeeper Wellenreuther saving all three, hero but bad news for Woud
2-1 from 8 to WII
WII go through. Crazy penalty shootout. More misses than Tiger Woods
Happy for Woud and McGarry, even if they only make the match day squad it will be a hell of an experience to be part ofa cup final against Ajax at De Kuip in Rotterdam. Even more so if they get to take the field against the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Matthias de Ligt, Hakim Ziyech to name a few.
Should mention this cup final will be Frenkie de Jong’s penultimate game for Ajax before he joins Barca. Playing for his second club where he made a huge name for himself, against his first team where it all started as a young lad. Pretty cool side story and all fans in the crowd will be behind him regardless of the result before he moves off to Spain.
On the bench for 2-0 win over De Graafschap.
No Mcgarry.

No Mcgarry.
Has signed a new contract until 2022!
On the bench as Willem II win 3-2 at Feyenoord.
Home team denied a late equaliser.
Mcgarry listed as injured.
Made his first Eredivise start today, currently 3-2 up against Fortuna Sittard.
Finishes 3-2. All 3 Willem II goals being penalties.
Fortuna player sent off at 41 mins.
Mcgarry not in match day squad.
With talk of Kurto leaving, had wondered if a chance 20 yr old Woud could be loaned to Nix next A League season. Rationale for Willem II that being a starting keeper for a season, would be great for his development. Thought only a slim possibility and now that he’s started a Dutch League game, probably no chance.
Unfortunately was at fault for the first goal, spilt an easy free kick into the path of a Fortuna attacker
"Goal! Willem II misses the odds, Fortuna Sittard doesn't do that. The debuting goalkeeper Michael Woud blunders tremendously and Andrija Novakovich ticks up close to the 0-1 inside." Cheers Google Translate
Willem II fans are saying that he was good apart from that though. Handling certainly seems to be his weak suit but has a fantastic diving range and good reflexes from what I've seen. Expecting Wellenreuther to be back in goal next game as he was injured for today
Video quality not great, but yes looked a bit of a howler re the split free kick.

Still great to see him debut at that level, when still only 20.
Woud back on the bench as Willem II beat Heracles 4-3 midweek.
No Mcgarry.
Is McGarry injured or just out of favour?
Injured
On the bench as Willem II get a 4-1 hiding at home from Ajax.
Ajax and PSV in a very tight battle for the Eredivisie title.
No Mcgarry.
Vitesse upset PSV at home 3-3 which could have easily been a win for Vitesse. Ajax go top none the less on GD. It’s Ajax’s to lose now. I’ll be at their last game of the season against Utrecht at the Cruyff Arena May 10. Sorry, a bit off topic but these Woud/McGarry/Thomas threads seem to be the only threads people discuss the Eredivisie here.
Thanks for update Top Left, sounds like Thomas may not be getting an Eredivisie winner's medal. Probably be a bit hollow if he got one anyhow.
Wonder if he will get a run with PSV II before season end. I see they have an Eerste Divisie game verus NEC tomorrow.
5 games to go before season end. I presume being a II side they can't participate in the promotion playoffs, ie can't be promoted to the top flight.

Willem II beat PEC Zwolle 2-0.
Pushing hard for one of the Europa League qualifier spots. Need to finish 8th or above. Currently 9th.
Woud on the bench. No Mcgarry.
Willem II play Ajax in Dutch Cup final 6th May.
Meanwhile Ajax have Champions League semi legs verus Spurs 1st May (away) and 9th May (home).
Be very interesting to how Ajax plan that out, esp the 2nd leg in Amsterdam. Imagine they will prioritise the Champions League surely.
Plus they are also involved in a titanic battle for Dutch title with PSV. Both on 74 points (a whopping 31 points above Willem II), with 4 games to go.
So a few distractions for Ajax, which must give Woud & Mcgarry’s team a glimmer of hope for the Cup final.

Postponed. Silver lining for a lot of people is that round was the day after Koningsdag. I’m certainly happy I no longer have to get up at 6am after the biggest Dutch party of the year! Downside is, I bought tickets to take my parents to Ajax last game of the season at Cruijff Arena vs Utrecht. Was looking like that game would be where they could clinch it - Utrecht never let Ajax (their biggest rivals) off with an easy game so would have been interesting. Now round 33 will be the last game of the season and should Ajax win the league, they’ll have to celebrate down with the farmers in De Graafschap
Starting in goal now vs. second-bottom Excelsior. Currently 1-0 up.
McGarry on the bench

Read that after his poor debut, Woud really impressed here and was one of the few positives in what was apparently a very poor day for Willem II. People saying it was the worst match the team has played this season, which isn't a good sign as they're still fighting for a Europa League playoff spot.
Some more good news for Woud. First-choice goalkeeper Wellenreuther is expected to miss the next game too through a hip injury, which is a huge home game against PSV.
Woud started again today, as expected - currently 2-0 down at half-time in a massive game against PSV. Error for the second goal.
Twitter very negative on Woud, seeing a lot of tweets shark-talking his performance so far
Ends 3-0. Definitely a day to forget for Woud, though he did make two excellent saves near the end of the game.

Keyboard warriors. Woud’s a 20 yr old kid in his 2nd league start. He would have been nervous as hell. Playing PSV who are a top team, gunning for the league title. They had Socceroos Sainsbury & Behich on the bench. Thomas will have a real battle making the starting eleven when he’s fit.
PSV (+71 GD) and Ajax (+81 GD) are far and away the top teams in Holland. Both 18 pts ahead of Feyenoord in 3rd. Top teams with fine players. Ajax after all are in Champions League semis, and PSV were bit unlucky to have a group with Barca, Inter and Spurs.
If anything I’m sure the young man would have lapped up the experience. At least I hope he did. He has a long pro career ahead of him, with a lot to learn no doubt.
Good to see Mcgarry into match day squads again for Willem II.

Not wanting to pick a fight here, but would you be so generous in your assessment if this wasn't a young Kiwi trying to make his way in professional football? I mean, this is Europe, for every young player starting at professional level there's a 100 behind him chomping at the bit to get an opportunity, and when you do get it, you're rightfully expected to perform by the club and its fans, you're not there for the 'learning experience'.
20 is very young for a goalkeeper, and undoubtedly he's got himself into a position from which he can have a decent professional career if he's good enough, but that's not to say that he's immune from criticism because that's just part and parcel of being a professional footballer in Europe, regardless of the age.

Yeah sure, and no doubt some strong bias as a young Kiwi that want to see do well.
Will keep a close eye on any comments/criticism that comes via his coaches, clubs, Flying Kiwis etc over his career. Fan forums/twitter less so.
10min highlights of the game
Willem II lose 4-0 to Ajax in Dutch Cup final.
Woud and Mcgarry both on the bench.
Good experience for the 2 Kiwis.
Woud in goal for Willem II against FC Emmen
3-2 loss. Tough to see, apparently Woud had another absolute shocker. Hope his confidence isn't too shot
Sad to see that some Willem II fans came up with a match day chant for Woud, asking him to be benched

Willem II were 2-0 up. Mcgarry an unused sub. No chance now of making Europa League qualifiers. And yes hopefully Woud gets over any howlers.
In other news in Eredivisie, PSV lost 1-0 away to 4th placed AZ. Ajax got over their UCL heartbreak to beat Utrecht 4-1, and virtually wrap up the title.
Ajax now 3 points ahead of PSV and with a 6 goal better GD. Last round of Eredivisie on Thursday, Ajax away to already relegated De Graafschap. The title is theirs.
Willem II finish away at ADO Den Haag.
