Subbed at HT (score 2-0) as Valour lose 2-1 at fellow Canadian Premier League side Forge, in a Canadian Championship Cup quarter final. One of 2 HT subs by Valour.

Forge are based in Hamilton, Ontario. Canadian Cup includes their 3 MLS teams, though Vancouver have already been knocked out.

Subbed on at 60 mins as Winnipeg's Valour (6th) draw 0-0 with Calgary's Cavalry (2nd).

7 rounds to go for Valour with season finish date early November. Doesn't look like the Canadian Premier League (CPL) has playoffs.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the CPL this season, Kiwi/Canuck Ben McKendry has had 19 starts for Atlético Ottawa (8th & last). For some reference before returning to Canada, McKendry had a season in the Finnish top flight (with TPS) and then a season in the Swedish 3rd tier (Nyköping).

A lot of strikers would take that for a finish. Shrug off the last man and muscle a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner. Well taken goal. Also see transfermarkt have had him listed as playing CF for past 3-4 games. Maybe the new gaffer sees this as a better position for him?

Seems a very popular player over in those parts too.

Really good form to end the season. Last 8 games he's been playing up front - 4 goals and 2 assists. Nothing to be sneezed at.

Seems to have thrived a bit more, and had more of an influence on the pitch playing up top. Possible AW's bolter? I know he divides opinion on here, but could be a chance to give him a game against the club team we'll come up against? See how he cuts it?

Scores a quick fire double (78 & 81 mins) & then provides the assist for the 3rd goal (88 mins), as Valour come back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 away at Edmonton (8th or last).

Valour needed a win to give themselves a shot at making the semis. They will finish 5th or 6th - with final league games tomorrow, confirming standings.

Dyer finishes with 9 goals (4 pens) for the season. If NZF secured some AWs friendlies in that Jan 2022 window, but there was a few guys like Wood unavailable, Dyer could be in the picture.

Two tidy finishes there. Well done to him for finishing the backend of the season strongly.

Last 9 games of regular season starting up top - 6 goals, 3 assists 👏

Contract up at the end of the month by the look of it, but based on his form, I'd imagine Valour would be looking to re-sign him. If not, I'm sure there are plenty of suitors across the CPL or a hop across the border in the USA.

He was nothing short of horrible when Hudson picked him along with Lewis etc out of the u20’s into the AWs but to be fair that was 4 years ago and that’s a lot time in terms of development in the men’s game. I’m guessing though the CPL is the same standard as the USL?

Yes you’d have to figure it is around that USL level. And Hay hasn’t picked anyone from that league.

Picked up on another year for Valour FC for the upcoming Canadian Premier League 2022 season.

Looks like he'll be utilized up top from the get go which is encouraging, especially so considering he finished last season with 6 goals in the last 9 matches up top.

Good on the lad. Will be intriguing to see what this season holds for him, hopefully he keeps up that goal scoring form.

Wonder how far behind the Irish league or a Scandinavian second division the league is.
Can’t hurt Collier or Dyer to keep collecting goals at their respective levels.

Maybe it just wasn't the right environment for him (also his first overseas gig), but Dyer was at a 2nd (or was it even 3rd?) tier Norwegian club, and didn't last long there. But yeah had a bit of a breakout season, 2021 in Canada.

Make of that what you will. These comparisons are always fraught.

Maybe if Myer Bevan becomes a goal scoring star there, we will get a better guide! To be fair, it does seem that Canadian football is on the rise.

Didn't help their cause that the bloke who came on as an injury replacement in the 22nd minute was sent off four minutes later....

Nevertheless, good to see Dyer get on the board early in the campaign. Playing up top and if he can get some decent service, hopefully he's hitting double digits this season.

Highlights of the match. Penalty which he converted (also earnt) was very, very soft to say the least. That said, the lad can sure bury a penalty.

Good finish losing his man for his 2nd. Going from highlights he had at least a couple more decent chances to score too.

Integral part of the Valour set up. Excellent to see him do well over there - Scoring and contributing overall. As an aside, leading fellow Kiwi Myer Bevan 3-0 in the goal count too.

How does that work? Why do MLS sides play CPL ones?
Sounds a bit like the Liechtenstein Cup where Vaduz, who play in the Swiss league, will face off against local clubs

It's basically a convoluted Canadian Cup Comp, with the winner getting Canada's spot in CONCACAF Champions League. From Wiki -

The Canadian Championship (French: Championnat canadien) is an annual soccer tournament contested by premier Canadian professional teams. The winner is awarded the Voyageurs Cup and Canada's berth in the CONCACAF Champions League.[1] It is contested by Major League Soccer sides Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and CF Montréal, eight Canadian Premier League sides, and the champions of League1 Ontario and the Première ligue de soccer du Québec. The tournament is organized by the Canadian Soccer Association[2] and has been broadcast on OneSoccer since 2019.[3]

With 13 teams competing, the competition was expanded to include three qualifying rounds along with the semifinals and finals. The first qualifying round begins with six teams, with three new teams entering each round until the semifinals where the previous year's champion enters. All rounds are two-legged match ups.
