Both Bevan & Cory Brown (yellow card) play full 90 mins, as the Cameron Knowles coached Portland II travel to Fresno and play out a 2-2 draw.

Fresno come from 2-0 down after only 11 mins, and score equaliser late at 95 mins.

Portland II are 5th in USL Western Conference to remain in the playoff hunt - 8 teams from each Conference make bloated playoffs.

Fresno are probably out of it being 10 pts off 8th place.

from Whitecaps site EightySix Forever:

Myer Bevan: Bevan went on two loans this year. The first to Husqvarna in the Swedish 3rd tier and the second to the ‘Caps USL affiliate Fresno F.C. Bevan managed three goals in eight appearances in Sweden for the relegation threatened Husqvarna. In Fresno, Bevan made seven appearances and did not score, but managed a couple of assists. He also put up an average of about 1.4 key passes per game in Fresno. I’m not quite sure what the Whitecaps plans are for him. He’s shown some flashes but it hasn’t really translated to a great deal of production at this stage. He’s twenty-one, which is still young, but he’s getting to the point where he is what he is. If he doesn’t play regularly at a decent level next year, and bag considerably more goals while doing it, I doubt he ever plays any part in the Whitecaps first team. I think it would probably be fine to leave Bevan in Fresno next year. Unlike the other prospects on this list they actually played him and they generally did a good job of getting service to their strikers. Fresno, despite finishing 14 points outside of a playoff spot, generated the 5th most shots in the league and had a number of players with really impressive chance creation numbers. If Bevan can’t score there then he’s not good enough for MLS.”

Following on from that, Vancouver Whitecaps have also released Myer Bevan. If I were the Wellington Phoenix I'd be chasing both players.

Sounds like new Vancouver coach is having a bit of a clean out.

Presume if he's been released, that then he'll also be released by Fresno FC - being a USL feeder club to the Whitecaps.

From memory he now has a Canadian passport, which helped keep him at Vancouver for a 2nd season, as a local player.

That passport might be useful if shopping around other USL clubs, ie not treated as a foreigner?

Can't wait for him to sign for a club, people to claim we missed out on him, and then he sits on the bench for the reserve team.

Back to the USL?? There is an extra 14 pro teams stateside at the USL level, in 2019.

Or even the new Canadian Premier League (total 7 teams)??

He has a Canadian passport - though you would hope he's aiming for a higher level than that. Certainly something higher than the 3rd div in Sweden!

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

Been waiting a while for news of Myer Bevan. Last we heard of him he was training with the Wellington Phoenix to stay fit, though that was only ever a low-key temporary thing. Got released from the Vancouver Whitecaps and maybe could have gotten a deal at a USL club if he wanted one but just like the other NZ Whitecap to get the flick recently (that club has changed more than half their squad from last season, it’s mental), that teammate being Stefan Marinovic of course, Myer Bevan has made treks for Europe.

Poland, specifically. Where he’s been training with Polish second tier club Puszcza Niepołomice. Not the most glamorous situation out there but The Forest (there’s a big forest by the town - Niepołomice Forest) are only eight points off promotion and ready to give that a good crack, plus they’ve made it into the quarterfinals of the Polish Cup having knocked top div side Wisla Plock out in the last round. And they lost three strikers recently and needed some help.

Bevan featured in the first 45 minutes of a 1-0 friendly win against GKS Tychy, starting with the first team before the gaffer made a full eleven changes at half-time. He was one of a few trialists and youth team players to get a run in this game and interestingly according to the club director Bevan’s gonna stick around for a few more days.

Roman Koroza, Puszcza Niepołomice: “He came to England and we were recommended to look at him. We will look at him in two trainings and in the Saturday friendly with Korona Kielce.”

Bevan did hang around for that friendly with Korona Kielce and the Niepolo’s won it 2-0, Bevan playing the first half with the main jokers again. The gaffer then said he’d take a look at the replay and make a call within the next 24 hours… which he did…

Tomasz Tulacz: “We have decided that we will not try for him at this time, he will not stay with us.”

Moving on then. No new news on Stefan Marinovic either this week.

Up Next: Good question.

Great to hear news of Myer, although the toughest kind, maybe Rudan could get him back to Welly and swap him for Nathan Burns. who literally hasn't fired a shot on return. The reason I like Myer is that he will use any part of his feet, or body, to TRY and score. A lot of pros are still one-sided which is very odd at that level.

Sounds like he's trialling at the Phoenix, best of luck to him, if he doesn't make it this time, keep trying, only 22.

TAWH trialled three times before they said yes, and unsure how many times Krishna trialled, at least twice.

TS Galaxy owner is Tim Sukazi. A lawyer by profession after an uneventful football career. He did very well as a football agent for a number of years before buying a 1st division franchise.

The clubs base is at Kameelrivier Stadium were the owner is from. The club will house Myer either in Groblersdal which is a small farming town with a massive shopping mall or most likely Pretoria's northern suburbs which is a hour & half drive to the training grounds. The club captain Bevan Fransman is an experienced footballer (played in Belgium, Israel) and will hopefully help Myer settle in.

New strikers do tend to struggle in the PSL but hopefully he gets an early goal and settles in quickly. The good news is that he will get game time as the games are going to come thick and fast in this compact (due to corona) season.

According to Dan Morgan on TF90 podcast they all have the same agent.

Soccerway have given it to the one with Bevan as a surname, but yeah they sometimes get it wrong.

And since in the team lineup I now notice he's positioned as a CB, something ain't right.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

Myer Bevan: “I have only been here for about five days but I can already see that the country is good. From what I have seen so far, I really like SA. I am very excited about what lies ahead. I am a goal scorer and I am determined to score as many goals for Galaxy this season. I want to achieve great things, like Brockie and Boxall. They had success in this country so that’s the route I want to go as well. Brockie told me that the PSL is a good league ... he’s been giving me advice. My agent Ferreri knows a lot of people in SA and he’s the one who brought me here. I am very happy that he made it possible. Tade is my friend. I played with him at Auckland last season... he also told me I must come over because the PSL is a good league that’s competitive”

https://twitter.com/TSGALAXYFC/status/131917931543...

"Cool. Love it. However not even being over there for two weeks meant that he wasn’t in the squad for Galaxy’s PSL opener. Too early for him. That game was a 1-1 draw against fellow promoted outfit Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhadila. A little confusing though because a few of the South African write-ups claimed that Bevan had scored the goal (a header from a cross after a corner routine late in the first half) but it was actually defender Bevan Fransman who scored it. Ah well."

At long last.....lol

Comes in and creates the penalty by kicking the ball on Supersport United Bongani Khumalo (former POAK) hand. Penalty taken by Captain Bevan Fransman and is saved. The Supersport United goalkeeper William's is the national team keeper and is a penalty specialist.  Incidentally Fransman has just taken over the penalty kicking duties after the previous guy kept choking.

This team is in real trouble. The standin coach after Dan Maselela was sacked will probably be removed this week or next. Anyway well done Myer and here's to more opportunities.

NEW COACH...lol

Owen da Gama has been appointed new head coach for TS Galaxy fc. That will be Myers 3rd coach in the last few months. Da Gama was a top striker in his day with Beerschot (Belgium) and Derry (Ireland) as former clubs.

As a coach, da Gama teams tend to be the fitted in the league. His mantra is to out work the opposition with a high tempo approach. His players run till they drop.

Owen da Gama is likely to bring in some experience into this team but not much. His high tempo approach is more suited to younger, fitter players who are determined and disciplined. He will definitely bring more order to the team. Myer should have no problems and will get game time.

Soccerladuma Newspaper (published every Wedneday in SA) interviewed Myer Bevan for the 27/01/2021 edition. I will give a quick summary of the important Q&A's. By the way "laduma" means goal or rather the celebration when a goal is scored.

If you looking to keep up with the boys in SA I would encourage you to go onto their website soccerladuma.co.za or buy their newspaper which is published every Wednesday online

Headline: Yeye has stood out for me

Yeye is the nickname for Reneilwe Letsholonyane (Let-sol-len-yane). Ex Kaizer Chiefs great and former Bafana player who played for SA in the Word Cup at home. I've got some good  teammates, but Yeye has stood out for me. Very experienced and a very nice guy." He is awesome".

On new coach Owen da Gama

I haven't had this much rollover in my career before in such a short time (talking about 3 coach's in 4 months) but that is professional football. He's (da Gama) only been here a few weeks and I'm enjoying it and I enjoy how he sets up the team.

On new assistant coach Shaun Bartlett (Bafana great. ex-Striker Colorado Rapids, MetroStars, FC Zurich, Charlton Athletic (Prem))

I'm looking to learn as much as I can from Shaun because he was prolific at the highest level

On making the Olympic Squad

I trying to just be in the best shape physically, mentally as much as possible. That means I need to get minutes.

On the PSL

The PSL is good, it's very fast but not too fast for me. The players are very athletic and it's quite similar to the league I've played in, in Vancouver where everyone is either fast or strong, so I'm enjoying it. I think the league is at a very good level and I'm obviously still adapting to everything.
