Picking up from a comment on the Winston Reid thread, if the above information is correct then this is an avenue well worth taking.

I was just wondering how did you find this information about nuno coelho? Were you just browsing wikipedia or somebody gave you the info?

Daniel could be his designated translator! haha. And after all Daniel could be an AW in less than a couple of years also...

AND... just spotted this on Wiki....

International career

Coelho was capped for Portugal at under-19 level, appearing for the nation at the 2006 European Championships and the 2006 Lusophony Games.

The following year, he was picked for the squad at the U-20 World Cup.

He will make his senior debut for New Zealand on May 29th in a friendly game against Serbia.[2] This is another major coup for New Zealand Football[3] and its World Cup campaign.

Im guessing someones been stirring the pot as its the first Ive heard...?

Here is an info from royzz about the same subject:

I heard it on Pacific Radio, They had a interview with Alfredo Esteves of East Temor who is involved with the Oceania 11 team being orginized buy the french dude Christian Karembeu Basicly it was a build up to the Pacific Youth and Sports Conference interview. Anyway He said there was alot of unkown Oceanian / Asian players playing in 2nd and 3rd devsion portugese sides. He Mentioned Nuno Coelho and some other New Guinnie kid they were scouting  so i looked them up on wiki(Took forever to find the right Nuno).
I did not write that about his mum & i dont know them at all or any family memebers of theres in NZ, I had no nolidge of him until i visted wiki looking for him,  I did however edited (Removed)  the picture some one put up of him (A picture of dog crap with kiwi flag in it).
I dont no anymore about his movements, i did email NZF but have not heard from them.
I dont even think he is playing at the moment for his new club.
When i was at the wellington game the other day for the semi i did hear afew people talk about him being signed but the Nixs, But i take it as talking crud.

hi,

How did you find the info about Nuno Coelho's Mom? And do you have any info confirming his NZ origins from another place than wikipedia?

Hey, new to this place, but read through this topic and decided to do something, I posted a thread on a football site, asking anyone if they knew about him and if his mother really is a kiwi, and I actually got a reply,

Again, its not solid, but this guy is Portugese and he's got a huge amount of respect so he could be right.

Anyone keen to ask his club?

He is on loan to a club in Greece (Aris F.C. (Thessaloniki)) on loan from Benfica, and he is a good age for a call up, 25. So he is playing at the right level, how do we bring him to Herberts attention. Anyway one can contact Ricki?

Maybe if we give the media the heads up, they will prompt Ricki into action, just like the Reid call up

I think people have enquired about him. not sure what came of it though

He is quite literally the missing piece to our squad. The partner with McGlinchy, if there is a possibility it needs to be looked into asap with more urgency.

Lets actually see him in action before we start calling him the missing piece.

Somebody send some tweets Kosta's way, he could try track him down next time their clubs meet or something

I'm not going to drop this, I need to know something. We need a quality defensive midfielder to partner McGlinchy so badly.

Some debate about Nuno here on Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Archive_49#What_on_earth.3F

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 49

"What on earth?"

Hi there teammates,

for the second time in this year, it has happened: anon user inserts stuff about the footballer Nuno Miguel Prata Coelho, claiming he has East Timor and Maori roots - which he has not, 100% guaranteed, i am Portuguese i know that - then proceeding to make stuff up about his international career.

The user then proceeds to back his "additions" with "refs". Why the quotation marks? Because the refs belong to FIFA.com, but that's it! Once you click on them, they don't lead you to the matter at hand, AT ALL! I am almost 100% sure that this is sheer vandalism, but i would like to know from other users, especially Portuguese or connected to Portuguese football, so we can straigthen this out. Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 04:52, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

The IP did not claim he has M?ori roots; the IP claimed his mother was of New Zealand descent. It is plausible enough that one should not be too hasty to hang big vandalism signs on it. That aside, I have not found reliable sources to back that up, so your removal of the statement is valid.--ClubOranjeT 10:17, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
