Both credited with an assist each in their come from behind win. Rogerson's to help level the score 2-2. Whyte's assist from a free kick that was bundled in by league top scorer Lee Erwin in the 94th minute.

Very good season for both Kiwi's so far over in Finland.

Whyte with 3 goals & 4 assists across his 19 appearances in the Veikkausliga, Suomen Cup & Liigacup.

Rogerson with 5 goals & 5 assists from 21 appearances across the same competitions. Going off a few websites/twitter etc he is ripping it up in Finland. Definite fan favourite, who if he keeps up his good form might just start to attract some interest from a few other clubs on the continent.

Sounds like Rogerson also won the freekick that Whyte swung in late for the winner. We shouldn't get carried away, as this is just the Finnish league after all.

But great to see Rogerson & Whyte doing well. Likewise Mata in Ireland, and Dyer plus Bevan (before getting injured) doing good things in Canada. All of them are in their 2nd or 3rd overseas gig/country. None of them may play much for the AWs in the future, given who else is around, but good on all of them for preserving and not giving up, on their pro football dreams. Some may have found their level, and this is as high as they go.

Rogerson yeah likely you'd think the pick of the bunch to get into a higher league.

Edit - Ain't likely to happen, but I see value in these sort of guys (who's seasons will all be completed by November) playing for an AWs selection against the Nix in NZ, when the ALM goes into hiatus during the World Cup.

https://fchaka.fi/uutiset/haka-nousi-veikkausliigan-nelossijalle/
The situation that led to the goal started in Haka's defensive end, when captain Niklas Friberg cut off Forsell's pass attempt. The ball ended up for Logan Rogerson, who ran away from the goal cannon of the Turku team. The New Zealand speedster, who is performing amazingly at the moment, passed the ball to Ojala in the box, who passed Matias Riikonen, who played in the Inter goal, from the front corner and then wildly fanned it to equalize, but certainly also facilitate his opening goal of the season.

The equalizer brought more power to the Koski team's game and apparently after this the Inter group, which was only hunting for a draw point, practically only faced the white avalanche.

- In the end, there was an equalizer, so one team was looking for a win and the other was satisfied with a draw. We were the one who sought that victory. We were pressed from above and created quite a few chances and then from the very last situation, Teemu Tainoi went in for the last twenty minutes of the match.

The final award Tainio referred to came in extra time of the match and again from a special situation. Rogerson's speed was taken away by ripping his shirt and Haka got a sidekick from the left side. Oliver Whyte gave a free kick that went inward to the front post, from where Erwin steered the ball past Riikonen with his head and the party at Tehtis was ready to begin. The goal was the Scottish striker's tenth and at the same time the man single-handedly became the top scorer.

I get your point about 'only being' Finland, but you can only play what's in front of you. If you back it up with performances there's bound to be clubs taking notes.

Proximity to the rest of Scandinavia certainly helps (and is probably a half decent bet for any potential moves). Either way it's all a bit of a moot point as it stands anyway, but like I said if performances keep up there's no reason to think they won't be offered an opportunity in another league. Time will tell, but I am enjoying seeing these guys (and other Kiwi's abroad) doing well for their respective clubs. Long may it continue!

Both Rogerson & Whyte starting today's match against Vaasan Palloseura, or for short - VPS1924.

Kick off in about 45 minutes or so. Hopefully some more Kiwi contributions to read about when I wake up later this morning.

Edit - big upset with Haka winning 2-1.
Whyte was replaced at HT (0-0) and his replacement scored both Haka's goals in the 2nd half.
Rogerson with the assist for Haka's 2nd goal. He got 83 mins (2-1 when he came off).

Haka stay 5th. KuPS stay first on GD from David Browne's HJK.
Browne has played 13 of their 17 games with 1 goal.

HJK got trounced in their UCL qualifying tie 7-1 over 2 legs by Czech side
Viktoria Plzen
. Reality check of where the Finnish league is at perhaps.

Match highlights here. Nice cross from Rogerson for the assist. Keeps this up and scouts will be having a gander.

Though to be fair the match quality ain't that great in many patches. Looks like a sand based turf cutting up a bit, or I may just be being kind.

Haka (4th) host David Browne's HJK (1st), in 2nd last game of the season. Haka only playing for pride, as can finish (excuse the pun) no higher than 3rd.

HJK meanwhile (4 pts clear of KuPS in 2nd) with a win can clinch yet another league title.

No matter the result they are the positions both teams will finish in, therefore both making UEFA Conference League Play-offs.

So Haka finish their season in 4th, and a UEFA Conference League Play-off spot for 2023.

Whyte played 21 of 27 league games, with 12 starts & 9 sub appearances. 2 goals.

Likely happy after unsuccessful stints in Portugal & Turkey, and on the fringes of AWs now.

Haka lose 1-2 on the day, but triumph 4-2 on aggregate to clinch a UEFA Conference League Play-off spot.

Whyte (off at 58 mins at 1-1) & Rogerson (full game) both started. A NZ summer presumably now for both of them.

Tete Yengi a full game for VFS.

From Flying Kiwis.

There it is. Whyte signed a one year deal with an option for a second year, the same as he signed last year. They could have simply activated that previous option for 2023 but instead FCH have renegotiated on a deal that’ll potentially keep him around another year after the next.

Remember that Haka’s excellent 2022 efforts earned them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifiers so there’s plenty to stick around for. It’ll be the club’s first continental appearance for 15 years. They were fourth in the Veikaugsliiga and won their ECL playoff 4-2 against VPS over two legs.

Ollie Whyte: “After a very successful season, I am happy to sign a new contract with Haka. I have really enjoyed my time in Haka and I have made many good friends within the team. I think we have a good team culture. The best thing about Valkeakoski is the Hakafood cafe and the lakes in the summer. Expectations for next season are to continue striving to become one of the greatest teams in the Veikkausliiga and to advance as far as we can in Europe!”

FCH coach Teemu Tainio: “Ollie flashed [his potential] last season and the second season will certainly be easier when you know what the coaching is looking for. We expect a real breakthrough next season!”

Up Next: New season begins with the Liiga Cup group stage in a couple months

Haka beat SJK 2-1, in the pre season League Cup. Rogerson an unused sub and Whyte not in match day squad

Argentinian Juan Lescano (ex Brisbane Roar) has joined Haka, and scored their first goal. Signed to presumably replace last season's leading Veikkausliiga goal scorer Lee Erwin. Be interesting to see how Lescano goes at this level (a drop from the ALM?). He scored 6 goals from 20 games at the Roar.
