Reorganising this forum

Guys, this forum has become massively unweildy with far too many people having their own thread in which very little comment is made.

I am considering reorganising into 8 major threads and would like some feedback:

- Kiwi Players in the UK (Senior): players playing at senior level in league football

- Young kiwis in the UK: all guys playing at academy, youth, reserve etc.  They don't all need their own threads.

- Kiwis in the rest of Europe (Really this is just Reid, Henderson and the young guys in Germany I think)

- Kiwis in the A-League (self explanatory)

- Kiwis in the Australian State Leagues (if required)

- Kiwis in the US: MLS and level below

- Kiwis at College in the US

- Kiwis in Asia (this can cover both Senior and Youth/Reserve as there aren't that many)

- Kiwis on trial/unsigned: guys who don't have a club trying their luck overseas

If you are happy with the current system let me know as well, but I am mindful to change this as I don't think it lends itself to very good discussion

i agree somewhat unwieldy but not entirely convinced.

I like having individual threads for most senior players. Bc i can immediately see which players have had some additional comment or news posted.

But i think all youth players could be grouped according to region as you suggest.

Instead what I think we should do, is to organise a series of sub-forums as per the topics you have suggested - and then within those subforums we can list individual players. I think this would be the best structure (if we can still do that)

I also meant to say that once the Europenan and A-League seasons start there is going to increased traffic and comment in respect to the AW players.

Ok maybe need some rules.  If you're not a senior squad member you don't get your own thread.  You only get stickied if you're playing regularly.  Maybe guys at the same club (like Ivan and Killen) can share a thread?

Was just astarting point really as I find all of this stuff interesting, but this forum I don't think really works

which one would I fit into?  I am a senior player playing at a senior level, but I am also young and playing for a reserve team (when I can be bothered shaking off my hangover and turning up).

Didn't really think this through, did you?

Yes, so many stick threads on a couple of pages looks messy. It should includes some of the women playing professional football as well, not just men.

Have a separate "overseas professional players" forum first. It isn't really under "All Whites and international teams"

Then make the five main regional-oriented sub-forum, have youth and women in their own ones and one for everyone else like the unattached and others in parts of the world unknown.

1.) UK-based players.
2.) Rest of Europe-based players.
3.) Australian-based players.
4.) US-based players.
5.) Asia-based players.
6.) Youth Development players.
7.) Women players.
8.) The rest.

noone comments on the women's topics though.  The games aren't on TV so it's very difficult to have any opinions.

Well I suppose they can just be slotted with the men's whenever there are any news pops up. Many of the men's news are mainly from the newspapers or websites articles so they should feel right at home. JR can find those articles for us or use his contacts anyway.

ok, I had a dream. It went like this ...

We have two sub-forums:
1.) Overseas All Whites (and in the sub-forum we have threads for foreign based senior and current AWs)
2.) Other Overseas NZ Footballers (and here we can have threads for groups of players along the lines of what JD suggested - young Kiwis in Europe, College Kiwis in US, women etc)

The grey area will be players like Steven Old. NOt currently an AW but people will still be interested in his progress at Kilmarnock. On reflection, i think individual senior players with a profile like Old should be permitted their own thread, but in sub-forum 2????

This works for me, Overseas All Whites can be for anyone who has made an All Whites appearance within the past two years (unless they've officially retired).

I think UK and European senior players should be grouped together (lets be honest, there isn't that many kiwis in Europe and UK) and US, South American, Asian and African likewise.

The rest (Aussie, youth inc. US College & womens) as above and please un-pin all players.

I like the individual threads on people then you can track their progress.
Even though Jarrod Smith is no longer in the MLS I still like to see how he is going and perhaps he will be a kiwi overseas again.

My thoughts on the matter:

Divide it up into sub-forums (players in England, Youth players, A-League, Asia, Rest of Europe etc) and within those have each individual players thread.

Kind of like this idea, but not sure how much demand there would be for some forums. Maybe UK, Rest of Europe & Australia, which the main forum taking care of Rest of World.

Defo think there needs to be some better organization though.

Yeah for some sub-forums there wouldn't be a lot of demand but worst-case scenario people use it rarely.  Not a huge issue. loyalgunner2010-08-01 22:13:53

In my opinion, it's better to keep it like it is. The only thing wich can help is to remove all the closed topics and old topics(page 4 for example in this forum ).

I have "unstickied" all the player threads. The reason I stickied them originally was because people were not looking for player threads and were starting new ones all the time. There were about four on Killen. So, hopefully that wont happen again.

Generally, I think its best to think of this forum as a source of info rather than a place where there's lots of banter. And that's why I am in favour of keeping individual threads, so you can quickly work out who's got some new news (although agree that academy and youth types could be merged by region).

very good, liking it a lot.

Though can't we unlock Jarrod Smith, I still like to know how he is going even though he is playing in NZ.

If you want a thread about Jarred Smith playing in the Central League (which is where he is playing) go and comment there.

Sam, I think you're right, this is a place for info source rather than lots of banter.  Some good feedback here.  I think we'll keep individual threads for the majority of senior AWs.   Everyone seems to like that and most do get fairly regular hits.

I think then we should have, like we used to, a young kiwis in the UK thread which can include all guys below senior level, triallists, academy etc etc because we're really not getting a lot of info on them and they just drop away shortly after being started (by Abris, who does an excellent job keeping track).

Aside from that I think we should have a young kiwis everywhere else, same but for all other regions.

Final thoughts?

I think your on it pretty much JD. Senior men (as it is), Women, and Youth categories.

Important to have individual threads for our more high-profile players i.e. all current AWs playing overseas. Like your idea of having some grouping too according to region of world e.g. Britain, Europe, North America. Important to have a "North America" category (better term than "US" since both MLS and the level below include Canadian teams) as there will continue to be several Kiwis playing in MLS or the level below it as there currently are since so many of our best young players go on scholarshgips to US universities.
Could have a "Young Kiwis in North America" thread too- there are probably more at US varsities, Portland Timbers etc. than we have in the UK.
Agree this forum is a really useful source of info on NZ players around the world -after all, otherwise the only sources of info here are the daily papers or the TV news (which only generally cover the higher profile players). So you guys are providing a great service to us keen fans who want to keep up with news on players. I like the fact fans post info you wouldn't find anywhere else on players (e.g stuff from Kiwis living overseas such as last year, before Rory Fallon pledged his allegiance to NZ when a Kiwi in the UK posted how he'd met Rory after Plymouth played a pre-season friendly in his area and asked him abouit his plans) or stuff found on obscure foreign language websites.
I know even the country's top football journalists keep an eye on this forum to glean info (I know one of these journos from a major daily paper). A few days after I posted some info on Winston Reid from a Danish  site, the NZ Herald (a different journo to the one I know) mysteriously used the same info word-for-word!
Andrew Gourdie from TV 3 and his TVNZ counterpart even post on Fever Forums.
