Wasn't he on some silly wage at Plymouth? £15k a week? He wouldn't be getting anywhere near that at St Johnston - I would think closer to £2k which is $4k NZ, $208k per year. Would he be worth that? I'm not so sure.

Yeah he was, and becuase he didn't want to leave for whatever reason, means PAFC are still paying him wages owed.

whats the average wage at the nix? lower league players in uk lucky to be on 1000 a week.

The lowest paid fully-contracted players would be on the A-League minimum wage of $A 50,000 per annum

Since the Phoenix are known to have always paid up to the salary cap without any marquee players, it is believed some players have been on salaries of about $NZ 200,000 per annum

http://www.sbnation.com/2013/7/1/4482430/new-cba-a-league-players

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10838419

An international  from a SPL club like Fallon would expect to be paid six figures at the Phoenix - probably about $NZ 150,000 - $NZ 200,000 per annum considering they could make that much playing for an average SPL club or a club in the Championship:

2011 figures: "Deloitte's figures show that...the average Championship player earns  £275,000 a year or £5,300 a week. Salaries in Scotland's SPL are broadly comparable to Championship pay."

http://money.uk.msn.com/news/money-in-sport/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=154629146

However, most SPL players earn a lot less than Championship players. Take out the huge wages then current at Celtic and Rangers, and this is the accurate picture:

The average for most players is 2000 - 3000 pounds per week (about $NZ 104,000 - $NZ 156,000 per annum)

Some clubs would be paying a few star players more money than most of their others, but not so much at St Johnstone.

Fallon would have been getting above the average no doubt as an experienced international.

He would be struggling to get above the average now as a St Johnstone reject with few goals or starts in recent seasons.

(St Johnstone even wanted to pay him out to get rid of him immediately: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/soccer-football/news/article.cfm?c_id=86&objectid=11185564 )

http://nareystoepoker.blogspot.co.nz/2013/06/spl-wages-too-high.html

2011 - 2012 SPL AVERAGE WEEKLY WAGES:

  1. Celtic £21,253
  2. Rangers £11,501
  3. Hearts £5,305
  4. Aberdeen £2,906
  5. Hibernian £2,804 )
  6. Dundee United £2,503
  7. Motherwell £2,296
  8. Kilmarnock £2,274
  9. St. Mirren £2,007
  10. St. Johnstone £1,920
  11. Dunfermline £989
  12. Inverness £954

In 2011-12 the average yearly wage in English League 1 was 80,000 pounds, League 2 was 65,000 pounds:

http://soccerlens.com/finance-in-english-football-wage-disparities-between-the-divisions/92692/

Remember the average UK wage is somewhat higher than NZ at about 35,000 pounds.

So two of the top three payers in the SPL were placed into receivership, leaving Celtic allot higher than everyone else, crazy discrepency when you take out rangers and hearts (who I'm guessing are both not paying anywhere near that this season).

This 2011 "Daily Mail" article has lots of interesting info and a table for the four English professional leagues detailing how wages have increased from 1984 to 2010:
This website is always good for this sort of stuff -  "Sporting Intelligence":
More of interest:
Otherwise, unfortunately, for a lot of this sort of info on sports finances, you have to pay to access the research from financial websites...
There is also info on some academic websites (journals, research etc.) which you can sometimes access if you are a student or know someone who is a student and can access it for you.

Latest on Rory - apparently clubs aren't falling over themselves to sign him. The Saints want him gone so they can afford another striker such as the unfortunately-named David Goodwillie from Blackburn:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/st-johnstone-have-very-good-3027877

"One player who could affect St Johnstone's ability to afford Goodwillie is striker Rory Fallon, who was told to look for a new club last week.

Wright said: "We have had a couple of inquiries form down south but they came to nothing, so he is training hard and waiting for a club to come in for him."

  • TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY: TWO IN AS FALLON EXITS ST JOHNSTONE

St Johnstone have released New Zealand striker Rory Fallon and recruited two young players from England.

Midfielder Mark Davies, 20, has joined on loan for the remainder of the season from Nottingham Forest, where his father Billy is manager.

And former Manchester City trainee Fisayo Adarabioyo joins until the end of term following his release from Birmingham.

Fallon, 31, moved to Perth from Aberdeen in the summer and scored once.

Having been a substitute in 11 of his 12 appearances, he was told he was surplus to requirements by manager Tommy Wright in early January.

And Saints have since signed strikers Chris Iwelumo and Michael O'Halloran, while retaining top-scorer Stevie May.

As long as he was unattached when the window closed, he is free to join another Euro club at any time.

Rory Fallon: Crawley Town sign striker after St Johnstone exit

Crawley Town have signed former St Johnstone striker Rory Fallon on a deal until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old New Zealand international was a free agent after leaving the Scottish Premiership side last month.

"Rory hasn't had too many opportunities in Scotland so he is really looking forward to a new challenge," Reds boss John Gregory told the club website.

"He's very experienced, knows this league inside out and can score goals."

Fallon joined St Johnstone from Aberdeen last summer and scored one goal in 12 appearances, 11 of which came from the bench.

After coming through the youth ranks at Barnsley, Fallon made his senior debut in April 2001.

He left Oakwell in 2003 for Swindon and has subsequently had spells at Swansea, Plymouth and Yeovil.

He joined Aberdeen in September 2011 and scored nine goals in 45 games during two years at Pittodrie.

Fallon played in all three of New Zealand's games at the World Cup in 2010 and has also had loan spells at Shrewsbury and Ipswich.

In total he has scored 70 goals in 350 appearances in the Football League during his time playing in England.

He is eligible to make his debut for Crawley in the League One match at home to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday.

Crawley Town have an interesting recent history - I hadn't heard of them until the All Whites played Jamaica in 2012 and I noticed Jamaican international centre-back Claude Davis  played for them (ex-Crystal Palace and Derby, now at Rotherham).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crawley_Town_F.C.

Their rise has been quite rapid in the last decade. They were only promoted to the Conference National (as it was then, now the Conference Premier, the fifth tier of English football) in 2004 after twenty seasons in the Southern League Premier.

Only went full-time in 2005. Conference National 2004-5 season until champions 2010-11 season and promotion to Football League 2

2011-12 third place Football League 2, promoted to Football League 1

2012-13 tenth Football League 1

In 2012 they sold Matt Tubbs and Tyrone Barnett for £800,000 and £1,100,000

However all this success was attained while the club was at times teetering financially close to the brink, making the success all the more remarkable - the club went into administration in 2006, and "by July of that year debts were close to £1.4 million, including money owed to current and former staff,  it looked unlikely that the club would be saved.

By August 2006  the administrators were therefore obliged to liquidate the club and it was announced that the club would fold later that day. However, a couple of days later, in one final attempt to rescue the club, the creditors met again to decide on a final offer. The creditors were split and so the administrator voted in Crawley Town's favour, allowing them to start the new season. The creditors would meet 14 days later to decide on an offer of 50p in the pound. The club was told that if the offer was rejected then the club would fold there and then, and there would be no going back. By September 2006 the club's debt was at £1.8 million making former/current players and staff the biggest creditors and giving hope that a rescue bid would be accepted. The offer of 50p in the pound was later accepted and Crawley Town were able to continue playing for now.

In May 2007, it was confirmed that all of Crawley Town's debts had been cleared.

After a short period of stability, Crawley Town ended up in the High Court in London to face a winding-up order on 17 February 2010; again this was because of money being owed to HMRC. The hearing was adjourned until 17 March 2010. The latest setback appeared to be the end of Crawley Town, as the club had very few assets to sell in order to satisfy the debt. However, the case was later dismissed by the High Court as the club proved the debt had been paid.

FA Cup heroics: The season they won the Conference National 2010-11 "Crawley embarked on a remarkable F.A Cup run having beaten Championship Derby County 2–1 in the 3rd round, followed by a 1–0 win at League Two side Torquay United[15] in the 4th round and setting up a dream tie at Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the 5th round.[16] Crawley lost the game 1–0 in front of 9,000 Crawley fans and were denied a draw in the 93rd minute when Richard Brodie's header hit the bar."

Man Utd v Crawley, Old Trafford, Feb. 2011: 1-0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y5yrO8oRKc

Love this on the commentary about a Crawley player: "He recently took time off to try and become a golfer..."

In the 2011-12 season "they once again enjoyed success in the FA Cup which saw them beat Championship teams Bristol City at home and Hull City away both 1–0. They suffered a 2–0 defeat against Stoke City in the 5th round."

Manager John Gregory: I saw their manager play for a very good QPR side both in the 1982 FA Cup Final vs Spurs live on TV One (went to a replay won 1-0 by Spurs)  -and on QPR's NZ tour in 1983 at QE II Stadium, Chch. (Clive Allen,Glen Roeder also in the side).

Went on to gain six England caps and later manage Aston Villa, Derby, QPR. Has been managing in Israel and Kazakhstan recently.

Rory in the squad for Tranmere tonight (tomorrow morning NZT)

John interviews well and is informative and positive.

"He's a fit, healthy young man still...he's still got a point to prove."

Sounds like he's settled in well.

Three weeks with no games due to bad weather and FA Cup. Sounds like this morning's game is going ahead though...

Latest news has Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore suspended by his club from any involvement pending FA investigation for betting on his own team.

With Crawley having such a crowded fixture list of nine games next month, followed by nine in April, it seems certain Rory will see action soon.

Crawley have to play two games every week the rest of the season to catch up on postponed games.

They have an incredible six games in hand on many sides above and below them on the table (played 27 compared to other teams' 33):

                                        P      D     P

22 Shrewsbury Town 32 -12 31
23 Notts County 33 -13 30

The game v Peterborough on Saturday will incredibly be Crawley's first  home game this year after all previous home games were postponed due to bad weather!!!

It's about Rory Fallon, but not about his football performance!

I send the e-mail to Crawley Town clubshop last week while Rory sign for them, since I saw their home shirt was on sale in GBP 10 and have free shorts! More importantly they have the size 3XL which fit me very comfortable, so I asked them how much postage they sent to Hong Kong; we have a good chat and I also asked them if they can ask Rory to give me an autograph since I was his fans, they said they will try to do something and asked me did I a Rory fans? I explained to them I like Rory since if not his goal in World Cup play-offs against Bahrian to bring New Zealand to the World Cup 2010, I won't able to watch NZ played and I won't know there's still team in the international level will still played long ball! Then, I lost contact with the clubshop for the next few days! I did not know what's going on actually.

Yesterday night they reply my e-mail and asked me to see an attachment, it was the following photo!

I can't believe it! Rory signed on my shirt (you can see it should be 3XL since it's huge!) write my name "To David, God Bless" and took a picture with a big smile! It is amazing to notice that, I just paid GBP 10 for a shirt, a sale, a cheap and a discourt shirt of course, but the clubshop will do so many things to me! It was very kind from the club and I will receive it in the coming week, and I will post the shirt here. It was so kind from Crawlay and Rory. Hope he will have his chance very soon and score a few goals for them. This football club is really good!!!

This is major news in Crawley - first home game of the year looks likely to go ahead (Sunday morning NZT v. Peterborough).

All previous home games over the last two months have been postponed due to bad weather and flooding.

Love the referee's name below, "Ashley Slaughter."  ("It's Slaughter out there...")

Rory will be available before flying out for All Whites duty v Japan (replacing the injured Rojas).

Crawley had a bad start to the season but have lost just three of their last 16 in all competitions and are unbeaten in five in the league.
Have played four consecutive away games. John Gregory up against Darren Ferguson after coaching Aston Villa against his dad's side (managed a win and a draw v. Man Utd).
