He was only brought in as a stop gap anyway- I doubt it's a surprise to even Fallon that he wasn't given a contract. England is not a place to play if the body has been battered- do what Ifill did and go play somewhere with half the games. Being a "current" all white is good timing but I don't think he's picking and choosing here- his was def on Hudsons terms.

What I think is Rory can still do a job for any League One or Two teams, what he really need now is a good tournament, scored a few goals, keep himself fit, and I am sure he will get a club before August. Rory position is same as Grant Holt, the Norwich City legend.

I'm not what you would call a massive Brockie fan but Fallon has played 17 mins this season as far as I can tell whilst brockie looks to be in career best form with 14 goals and a few assists Brockie at 28 as opposed to fallon at age 34 you have to wonder whats going on I can only assume Fallon has been Messi like in training. I would love to see Brockie playing as a second striker behind wood his success this season seems to stem from playing in a front 2. I understand the terrible international goals scoring record but I would argue a lot of that is down to him simply not being a lone striker. Fallon has some good goals against good opposition but I don't think his record is all that great either.

How's Grant Holt? If he is most of the player he was, wouldn't mind him at the 'Nix! Though actually anyone who scored regularly and won us games would be fine with me...But yeah I always looked at how well he did in the EPL for a while there and thought- Wood could do at least as well

My theory is that Rory has been brought in for leadership and as a role model for the young guys in the squad, and only really as a backup option up front if Wood/Watson are injured or suspended. From the sounds of it Rory was a key personality in the squad in South Africa (playing the guitar for the team song and all) and Hudson has made a big deal about team spirit and player attitude so I think that might be the idea. Especially if you look at the comments he made around Smith.

Rory said in the interview we did with him that he's doing pre season with a team - all lined up but couldn't say who it was. With his business in the UK i'd imagine it'll be back there and being based on the south coast it could be Plymouth, Exeter, Pompey maybe?

Well, I was working on the assumption that Hudson wants to play a targetman/finisher combo - Wood, Watson, and Fallon as targetman options and Smeltz, Rogerson, Patterson as  finishers. But I'd say Watson looked a lot more effective in his (admittedly limited) A League games this season compared to Smeltz

Just checked and yeah you're right, no Watson. Oops! I guess not being in the squad probably limits his chances of being selected ahead of Smeltz or Fallon...

Wondering which club will get Rory next season, it would be great if it's near East Anglia since I'll visit Norwich in October. I recall when Rory play for Scunny, their fans really rated him until he's get injured. Every football fans love old fashioned center forwards

I doubt its Argyle.  He's done his time with us and many fans loved to hate him.  He was a stellar bloke when we went bust but hopefully we will be in League One next season and have some very promising players coming through.  Would be happy to see him at Pompy, Yeovil, the Scum (Exeter), Newport etc.

"Football Focus" on BBC World ten days ago had a feature on the revival of Bristol Rovers.

The new owner seems an intelligent and amiable young Anglo Asian businessman.

Rory was filmed chowing down in the club cafeteria and was also in a shot on the training pitch.

Have to admit I thought he was done and dusted might still have some use as a striker I think the best level of football he could hope for would be the SPL which wouldn't be to bad at all not sure whats going on with Smeltz but I would prefer only one oldy to help us try to get to Russia.

As long are both fit and scoring I'm happy for them both to be along for the ride.  Two very different kinds of players and in Shane's case I'd love for him to break the NZ goal scoring record, he's not too far off Coveny.

I would get him (well I have to say because he's my favourite player!) more than Shane to lead the line, Shane is an out and out goalscorer but he can't inspire the youngsters much up front even we are winning big or losing, but as Rory was a fighter, when you see an old head leading up front chasing in 90th min, the young players have no reasons to stop.

I think Hudson was not foolish, he want Rory to play in the OFC Nations Cup surely was want to get the best out of other young All Whites forwards.

Always liked this guy. He gets  a lot of misinformed abuse from people on this forum who have a complex about his Dad and the very odd reference to religion. I think they hide that with references to his playing style and elbows.

First of all you don't get to choose your parents. Saying that I sometimes think you should judge someone by their children and using this rationale Kevin probably isn't too bad a guy.

In terms of religion, I am not religious and hate people throwing it down people's throats. Never seen that with Rory.

In terms of his style, he knows his limitations and strengths. He never was going to be a Wynton Rufer but has established a respectable career in the lower leagues and Scotland by playing the way he does.

Above all he stuck his hand up to represent NZ before others, got us to a World Cup and played well there. Many others in the current squad and those whom have chosen not to be there could learn from his passion for NZ.
