My guess is he didnt want to play if didnt have to given it an unnecessary risk with little riding on the result. plus, big Sam probably quite happy to have a look at a few players with a view to squad decisions and contracts over the summer. totally guessing though
Ryan Nelsen (Unattached FC Coach)
"Linganzi comes into the side in place of Vince Grella who drops to the bench, whilst Hanley, a Scottish under 19 international, replaces Ryan Nelsen who has returned to New Zealand early in preparation for the World Cup".

I think he played four games. Two vs New Caledonia. Fair enough as well, we can only expect him to travel halfway across the globe for a few games vs some small islands, not all of them.

Guardian.co.uk has been polling readers since the World Cup began last month and as of this morning the performance of Nelsen - the All Whites' skipper - against Italy has been rated the third-best.
Nelsen, who also captains Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League, also fills fifth place on the list for his efforts against Paraguay while Paston, the All Whites goalie, fills the seventh and 10th positions for performances against Paraguay and Italy respectively.
The best performance, as rated by the website, are by Japan's Keisuke Honda against Denmark while Diego Forlan's efforts for Uruguay against South Africa are second.
There is little surprise in the list of the 10 worst player performances with England players holding down five spots with Wayne Rooney at one and fourth, Emile Heskey third, John Terry sixth and Frank Lampard 10th.
Australia's Harry Kewell gets second spot on the worst list for his effort against Ghana while the remainder of the list are Frenchmen Sidney Govou (twice), Andre-Pierre Gignac and Nicolas Anelka.
Am I the only one who thinks Nelsen looks like an absolute savage in this picture who has just torn a child to shreds?
Quick recolouration I made for (I think) Scottisbhoy a while ago:
Defo a resemblance
I don't think Ryan has achieved as much as Wynton has.
Rufer = the weedy, pasty guy who played peter parker
You choose !
Good news, though he is still listed as doubtful. So may in fact start off the bench.

edit: At least it shows Big Sam still cares about Nelsen.aitkenmike2010-10-23 13:35:31
Peraps that's because Cahill is nearly 10 years younger?
