He hit Zwolle as a backpacker having paid for his plane ticket as an investment. Now proudly holding silverware, having been instrumental in the clinical demolishing of Ajax.

In the special jubilee edition, coinciding with PEC Zwolle's cup triumph, Ryan was qouted saying he washed away his adrenaline with chocolate milk rather than with beer like his team mates.

I got same auto-reply when I sent them an email on May 05 suggesting it would be nice if a trophy in honour of the late Keryn Jordan was at stake for The All Whites v Sth Africa game. No further correspondance so far. I now don't expect any.

Ha! I got a personal reply from Fred de Jong after i contacted NZ Football before the Mexico play-offs.
I also got a nice quite lengthy reply from then CEO Mike Glading about four years ago Glading was a good communicator with his background in the music industry. His enthusiasm for promoting football really came through in his reply to me.

If you are interested in a full frontal solo picture of Ryan Thomas, holding the Dutch Cup, to include in the match programme for the South Africa clash, please let me know.

I can also send you a scan of the cover of a collectors item jubilee edition, coinciding with one of the biggest upsets in the entire Dutch football history.

Hi

Thank you for your email and picture offer. Can you tell me if you have usage rights of the images you have or are they shots taken by fans?

 Kind regards

Tracy Brady

Executive Administrator

Hi

Regarding the image of Ryan, do you have usage rights of the image or is it a fan taken photo?

Cheers,

Steven Upfold

Communications & Media Manager

Good day,

If you are autorised to use the photo, you should credit Martijn Kleingeerts. His photo appears in a jubilee edtion: Zwolluh Door Het Dolle. The cover in attachment.

The book has been published bij De Stentor from Zwolle; these are the details I have.

Cheers

This TV special on Tuesday night fully confirmed that the Dutch league is one of the best for young players hoping to build a career in Europe.

Worth checking out the "Aussies Abroad Socceroos European Adventure" one hour special which debuted Tuesday night on ESPN.

Repeated Thursday ESPN 5 pm ("Aussies Abroad Socceroos European Adventure") and 6 pm ("Socceroos World Cup Special")

A one hour special on Socceroos currently playing in Europe focusing on Tommy Oar and Adam Sarota at Utecht in the Netherlands, Jason Davidson at Heracles in the Netherlands, Mathew Leckie at FSV Frankfurt, Matt Ryan at FC Bruges and Dario Vidosic at FC Sion. Only Sarota has missed the World Cup squad.

Really well done with lengthy interviews with all six who proved quite articulate.

This would be a good one to watch for any young Kiwis contemplating playing overseas.

FC Utrecht were very obliging and manager Jan Wouters (70 cap Dutch international ex-Ajax and Bayern) gave some honest insights into his Aussie charges and the progress they had made.

All the young Aussies playing in the Erdivisie said it was an excellent league as a young player developing and they preferred it to bigger leagues such as Germany where it's hard to break in to the first team and playing time can be limited.

Our boy Ryan is on to a good gig at PEC.

The Eredivisie is proving one of the most popular Euro leagues for young Aussie players with three at Utrecht (Michael Zullo didn't feature in the program), Davidson at Heracles, Eli Babalj (ex Melbourne Heart) at AZ Alkmaar and Trent Sainsbury Ryan's team mate at Zwolle. Brett Holman played for AZ until 2012.

In total, 20 Aussies have played in the Eredivisie (there have been only eleven Argentinians). Makes our total of three look rather lame.

Couple of nice touches that almost lead to goals in a pre season match against Greek runners up PAOK Thessaloniki (From a week ago)

Couldn't find a match report, but looks like he may have only played in the first half (?) PEC won the match 2-1

Just finished another friendly against Hannover 96 this morning, again winning 2-1. Can't find any details at this stage but no doubt some footage might emerge over the next couple of days.

Next Monday effectively kicks off the Dutch football season as PEC Zwolle take on Ajax in the Super Cup, and a chance for some early season silverware.

Zwolle official website:

PEC ZWOLLE SHIRTS AVAILABLE IN NEW ZEALAND

For the first time in the history of PEC Zwolle, there are shirts of the club for sale abroad.Through this website , the home shirt is available in New Zealand, the home of Thomas Ryan soon. Hence, the shirts feature his uniform number 30 and the newly minted International welcomes this initiative, and has signed all the shirts that are sent to New Zealand with a subtle doodle.

Ryan Thomas: "I consider it a great honor they are being sold in New Zealand. PEC Zwolle-shirts It's quite special that all shirts also even have my shirt number yet. When I heard this for the first time, I really thought it was playing around. Then I was asked to provide a signature for the shirts, no problem, of course, so for the last week I've been busy doing a lot of scribbling. "

Jesper Drost also encountered the goalie PAOK after Ryan Thomas had sent him....

Some variations from different sources in kick-off time for the Dutch Super Cup (Johan Cruijff Shield)

I watch eredivisie through bet365.com. used to be able to get it on livesport.tv but they lost the licence this season. It's not great quality but best I've found.

BTW Ryan Thomas has a good game for zwolle this mornin. 2-0 against Utrecht. Played full game, assisted a goal with a header late in the match. May have been yellow carded early in fist half but I was making coffee

I caught the first 55-odd minutes and I'm pretty sure Ryan didn't receive a yellow.

From what I saw, Zwolle looked sharp and creative, and if they can maintain some consistency they should finish higher than they did last season. By my reckoning, the average age of the mids and forwards in Zwolle's starting line-up was barely 22 – not too sure how this impacts on the consistency factor.
