PSV take out some of their UCL anger on Groningen with a crushing 5-2 win. Thomas a late 84th min sub (score 4-2).

PSV have drawn Real Sociedad, Monaco and Sturm Graz in their Europa League group.

In Flying Kiwis.

Meanwhile there have been some rumours that Ryan Thomas won’t be involved in all that with Fortuna Sittard trying to get him in on loan. It’d mean more minutes but it’d mean no Europa League at the same time. Mixed emotions there but the rumours only lasted a day before Fortuna Sittard were able to close in on other targets. It’s possible another team will get on the phone. We’ll let that one simmer.

Not in match day squad for a 3-0 win at AZ (13th).
PSV top of the table (4 wins from 4), 2 points ahead of Ajax. Two horse race already looming.

As above some rumours that Thomas maybe going out on loan. There is a Europa League tie midweek against Real Sociedad.
16 Sep 22:07
Subbed on at 63 mins in a 2-2 draw verus Real Sociedad in the Europa League. Same score when he came on, as one of 3 subs. Socceroo GK Matt Ryan on the bench for Real Sociedad.

19 Sep 11:54
On the bench as PSV (2nd) host Feyenoord (7th).
19 Sep 23:43
Subbed on at HT verus Feyenoord (up to 5th), with PSV down 0-1.

But turns into a very forgettable 2nd half for Thomas and his team mates. Feyenoord run away with a 4-0 win. PSV remain 2nd. No need to guess who leads the league.

Can see why Thomas would make himself unavailable for AWs in October. His position at PSV does look vulnerable from afar. They will be desperate to end Ajax's hold on the league (won last 2 completed comps). They also have the Europa League to juggle. But they carry a large squad, and if Thomas is getting limited mins there, not a good sign.

His continous injuries haven't helped, and he will be very mindful at age 26, that if PSV decide to loan him out (ie see him surplus to requirements) as has been rumoured may happen, it would be a major career setback.
22 Sep 22:51
66 mins in a 2-1 win at Go Ahead Eagles (10th). Score 1-1 when he came off.

PSV 2nd. Be interesting to see if Thomas also starts in the weekend's game against 3rd placed Willem II.

26 Sep 00:20
Not in match day squad in a 2-1 loss at Willem II (2nd).

PSV fall back to 4th, 4 pts behind 1st placed Ajax. Feyenoord 3rd on GD from PSV.

There is a Europa League tie at Sturm Graz midweek.
30 Sep 23:18
Unused sub as PSV beat Sturm Graz 4-1 in Austria, in the Europa League.
Götze with 2 assists. 10 subs named on PSV bench.

Scores an 86th-minute winner for PSV vs Sparta Rotterdam after coming on in the 61st minute.

Hopefully, this leads to him being a bit more of a mainstay in the team now. It would be a shame if he missed the internationals for riding pine.

Nice goal for him, making the near post run and glancing first time finish.

PSV play a 4-2-3-1 and he’s viewed as an 8, I don’t think he’s played in the 10 spot recently, so his competition is Marco van Ginkel (captain and former perennial Chelsea loanee), Davy Pröpper (ex-Brighton and Dutch international) and Ibrahim Sangare (23yo ex Ligue 1 with Toulouse and Ivory Coast international) so it’s tough. Sangare is their best 8, so it’s between the others for the second spot, but van Ginkel and Pröpper haven’t been great so it’s up for him if he’s consistent.

In even better news for PSV, Ajax coming off a midweek UCL win over Besiktas, were upset 0-1 at home by Utrecht.

PSV go 2nd only a point behind Ajax

Just watched this on Sky this morning, Ryan played well, moved around all over the attacking third, popping up in six yard box to score the second, which had them ahead 2 - 0.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Dutch media described it as a ‘knee problem’ but apparently should be available for Thursday. PSV played a behind-closed-doors friendly against Eerstie Divisie side TOP Oss during the international break which Thomas didn’t feature in either, so he might not have been available for the AWs anyway had he decided to put his hand up for selection.

Yet again listed in sick bay as PSV win 4-1 at Fortuna Sittard (17th, 2nd last).

PSV go top, but they will only have 24 hours there as Ajax play at home tomorrow against Go Ahead Eagles (10th).

From Flying Kiwis.

Haven’t heard from Ryan Thomas for a couple weeks, aye? That’s because he’s been out with a knee injury, another frustrating niggle for him that has kept Thommo out of the last few games. Add in an unused sub gig when they played Monaco in the Europa League in late October and he hasn’t actually played since he scored against Sparta Rotterdam a month ago. In fact it has been reported that he’ll need minor surgery on that fella which will keep him out until the winter break. Hopefully if that is the case it does something to help with the recurring complaints he seems to be having.

Poor guy. Does sound like he’ll have many of any games with the all whites before the intercontinental playoff so we may as well get used to playing without him

Of the 26 games Anthony Hudson was coach for, the ‘Big Three’ (ie Reid, Wood and Thomas) only started ONE game together, a 2-1 loss to Japan in Nagoya in October 2017. Hay matched that in his first game, the 3-1 loss in Dublin, but it very much remains yet to be seen whether he’ll surpass that.
20 Nov 17:33
No Thomas as PSV (2nd on GD) go level with Ajax, with a 2-0 win over Vitesse (5th).

Ajax drop points held 0-0 by Go Ahead Eagles at the Ajax Arena.

25 Nov 19:25
No surprise, no Thomas as PSV (5 pts) host Sturm Graz (1 pt) in UEFA Europa League.

2 group games left as PSV try to catch either Monaco (8 pts) or Real Sociedad (6 pts)
25 Nov 20:55
He really has had a terrible time with injuries at PSV.  ACL, then ankle surgery. He has shown his quality when fit and given the chance but contract expires June 22, so at the end of this season.  Hopefully he can recover soon, stay fit, get some minutes and secure something / somewhere where he will get regular game time.

I’m pretty sure he’s back in light training, though I don’t know if it’s contact or not. PSV have a bit of a injury crisis at the moment, with not only Thomas out of today’s game, but also first-team regulars Cody Gakpo, Eran Zahavi, Phillip Max, Jordan Teze, Noni Madueke, along with a couple other fringers. Funnily enough, the Dutch word for injured is ‘geblesseerd’, though I can’t imagine Thomas feels too blessed.

In the press conference, the manager mentioned that three of them are set to be back next week, but didn’t include Thomas, though I’ve read start of December, though who knows. When he got the surgery, it was reported that the procedure should help to rectify the recurring knee problems he has, so hopefully that is the case.

I’m sure Danny Hay more than most people can empathise, as he talked about on the Between Two Beers pod about how he had half-a-dozen operations and it basically cost him his Leeds career.

PSV (8 pts) with a 2-0 win over Sturm Graz.

Monaco (11 pts) beat Real Sociedad 2-1 (6 pts). So Monaco are through.

Last round is winner takes all, as PSV travel to Real, for 2nd spot and into last 16.

Rojas's old club Heerenveen (11th) host PSV (2nd) for a 1-1 draw. No Thomas.

PSV (31 pts) drop 2 points on Ajax (33 pts)

Feyenoord 3rd (29 pts) have game in hand and if won that, would over take PSV

PSV (GD +16) 2 points behind Ajax who have a +46 GD after 15 games!

Another Aussie keeper on the bench in opposition. This time ex Nixer 36 yr old Danny Vukovic for NEC.

PSV grab a 90th min goal to win 2-1 at NEC.

PSV go top of the table after Ajax were upset 1-2 at home by AZ. Ajax of course going great guns in UCL with 6 wins from 6 pool games.

No Thomas as PSV (1st) beat fellow Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard (16th), 2-0 in KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup).

Hopefully Thommo not far off. I think a return had been hoped for in December sometime.
19 Dec 20:15
PSV (1st) with a 4-1 win at RKC Waalwijk (15th). No Thomas.

PSV stay ahead of Ajax by a point.
23 Dec 17:35
Still out, as PSV (2nd) host Go Ahead Eagles (11th).

PSV have a game in hand on Ajax (1st) & are 2 pts behind. So with a win, will go top again.

PSV host Ajax 23rd Jan, in what will no doubt be a huge game. Could yet be an intriguing battle for Eredivisie title.

In PSV's favour is they are now in the lowly Europa Conference League which they probably won't take too seriously. Starts again February. Whilst Ajax of course are into Round of 16 in UCL against Benfica, where they will be favourites. So they will have UCL distractions to deal with.

23 Dec 20:11
PSV go back top of the table with a 2-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles (11th). GAE down to 10 men from 68 mins, with score 1-0.

3 week mid winter break, with Eredivise to resume mid January. Hopefully Thomas is fit by then, and even better makes himself available for the AWs re those 2 friendlies late Jan.

Telegraaf.nl: “Ryan Thomas and Eran Zahavi are not back at the Spanish training camp yet. Schmidt hopes to expect both players back at the end of January, although that is difficult to predict”

Sounds like it could be another month on the sidelines for Thomas as he recovers from minor knee surgery. PSV are currently in Spain for training during their winter break but they’re back in Eredivisie action in two weeks and Thommo doesn’t appear on track to be ready then. Hopefully not much longer. Can’t say it was particularly likely to happen anyway but this probably puts a dampener on any chances of him going away on loan during the January transfer window. Europa Conference League playoffs are in the back-half of February though so on track for those bad boys.
