This is a good news!

The Kickers have added two USL PRO veterans, midfielder Shay Spitz (Los Angeles Blues) and midfielder Samuel Asante (Charlotte Eagles) to their roster for 2014.

Joining the DC roster will be six players from USL PRO affiliate Richmond Kickers including midfield trio Shay Spitz, Michael Callahan and Luke Vercollone, and defensive threesome Shane Johnson, Henry Kalungi and Alex Lee.

USL Pro club Richmond Kickers have made a duo of midfield signings ahead of the 2014 season.

24-year old Ghanaian Samuel Asante has joined from rivals Charlotte Eagles while Hong Kong-born New Zealand native Shay Spitz arrives from Los Angeles Blues.

Asante made 21 appearances for Supporters’ Shield winners the Eagles last season as they made it to the cup final where they were beaten by Orlando City while Spitz scored four goals in 18 outings for the Blues.

Of the latter, Kickers head coach Leigh Cowlishaw said: “Shay impressed during his time with the LA Blues and was one of our main offseason targets.”

Play-offs start Sunday NZT (7 pm Sat. local time) vs. Charleston Battery at home.

Shay played the full 90 vs. Crystal Palace in the 3-0 friendly loss July 28:

He was kicked out of Hong Kong last year when the authorities discovered he had been playing for champions Kitchee SC without a work visa from October 2012 to January 2013:

Coached by current Adelaide coach Josep Gombau at Kitchee and first choice player while he was there. Gombau is a good spotter of talent so Spitz must be quite decent.

Blair Scoullar played for them iirc.

You might be thinking of Mike Wilson. He didn't play for them...but is the only recent Kiwi I can think of who is a Mike.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I think he had work permit problems last time because he and his club assumed because he was born in Hong Kong that he could work there.

But it wasn't the case and he had been playing illegally without a work visa. Hence he had to leave.
