In goal as Vancouver host Sporting Kansas City in MLS.

Must win high stakes game for Whitecaps to have any real hope of making the playoffs.

Vancouver (GD -11 and 31 games) with a win, would go equal on points with RSL (GD -3 and 32 games) who are currently in the 6th playoff spot.

LA Galaxy have 45 points (GD +1 and 32 games). Is basically a 3 way contest for last playoff spot in the West.

After today there will be two MLS rounds to go, and Whitecaps finish with tough matches against LAFC (away) and Portland (home).

Finishes 1-4 unfortunately. Marinovic & Co concede 3 goals after 82 mins. 2 post 94 mins! - chasing the game I imagine.

Whitecaps will need to win their last 2 games, and hope both RSL and Galaxy drop points. But really is season over.

Stefan Marinovic – Vancouver Whitecaps (American Major League Soccer)

The season is over for the Cappies but the drama continues, with a few players dropping lines about an apparent divided dressing room. The coach was fired a couple months back so you know there were issues, but having a few blokes openly admit that was a surprise. Even more so when there’s talk from the boardroom about ‘culture’ problems. Stefan Marinovic had a bit of a yarn about the situation although he later clarified those comments in an IG post.

MLS.com: “Goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic noted that the cultural divide between players of different backgrounds that, to some extent, is inevitable in all dressing rooms in MLS, was more pronounced in Vancouver.

"In the teams that I've been with before, I've never seen a team that had such a lot of cliques," Marinovic said. "From what I understand from talking to players here and around the league, that is synonymous with MLS that you're going to have certain cliques. You're going to have the North American clique or you're going to have a Latino clique. That definitely was apparent here and I think there's a lot of clubs in MLS that are like that. Here it became difficult because we weren't doing too well. It became more apparent when certain people got away with things that they shouldn't, in the eyes of the rest of the team. It doesn't really build a strong team culture."

Vancouver ended up missing the postseason by two points, and Teibert had previously criticized some of his teammates for "giving up" as the season wound down. Marinovic suggested, at the very least, some didn't rise to the occasion. "I think it was pretty apparent this year that when the going got tough, players didn't come together as we should have," Marinovic said. "Your true nature comes to the forefront I think, and that's what happened so some players here."”

Ooh, scandalous. Here’s the full exit interview he did, which has way more interesting insights than just the personality troubles that the club may or may not have had to deal with…

Some insights on the challenges with having Latino team mates who can go all Carlos Hernandez when the going gets tough and/or they don't get their way. Plus a few tips to Vancouver wunder kid Alphonso Daviers on how tough Germany will be, and a brief mention of AWs in last 5 mins

Some parts he reminds me of Steven Adams the way he speaks. It's refreshing seeing our pro footballers getting interviewed at press conferences.

@ByPhillipRollo

Looks like All Whites goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic will be departing Vancouver Whitecaps after his contract option was not picked up. Not sure if his IG post was a hint at his next destination or not ...

@ByPhillipRollo

Following on from that, Vancouver Whitecaps have also released Myer Bevan. If I were the Wellington Phoenix I'd be chasing both players. The GK situation is tricky though because Filip Kurto is good and is on a two-year contract. But he's also an import.

If Marinovic is on the move, I'd say he'll be looking at Germany first. His girlfriend lives there, he knows the culture and speaks the language.

I also note his old club Unterhaching (them of the 'pub leagues') are 5th in Liga 3, so in with a chance of promotion to Bundesliga 2.

From an AWs perspective be good to have our no 1 keeper, playing in a league that recognises FIFA windows, ie not the MLS.

But I guess the most important thing is, that he goes to a club where there is a good chance he will be the starting keeper - which in short term will be tricky when most leagues are about halfway through their seasons.

Hudson might want to take him to Colorado. Tim Howard won't be around for ever.

Possibly longer in Denver than Huddo though.

Surely not the NIX... I'd pick he will go back to Germany or Championship.

Out of curiousity, apparently Marinovic was the only non US/Canadian keeper that was a regular starter in latter half of the MLS season. So not easy for a foreign keeper to nail down a position in the MLS, visa spots being preferred on outfield players.

Unterhaching still 5th in Bundesliga 3. That league has a one month break from late Dec to late Jan.

Yeah I do think it'll be Germany, maybe not a Bundesliga 3 club since I'd guess he's too good for the league but Unterhaching might seem an interesting concept seeing as they're pretty damn good now

Provided he’s guaranteed the starting position, a short term contract until season end wouldn’t be that bad esp if they were promoted.

Otherwise yes he obviously too good now for that level, but won’t be so easy getting a starting keeper spot in the month of January

Even Bundesliga as a backup?

He's in New Zealand right now, so I guess he was just saying he's going to start his NZ trip in Auckland, or something along those lines

Article seems to imply that he’d be a backup, can’t see him going to a place where he won’t be the starting keeper.

really? - he spent 8 years in the German 5th division

Money for being a backup at Hull probably more than he was on at Vancouver

Finding an immediate starting position at a club in January would be very difficult, unless he stayed in the MLS.

He went to Vancouver initially as the no 2 to Ousted. Maybe he backs himself to become the no 1 in quick time.

Short term deal and see how it goes?

FYI - Hull are mid table in The Championship, 7 pts off the playoff spots.

Just noticed Ipswich are dead last, and 5 points adrift. Tommy won’t be happy.

Never mind Tommy, Hard News will be bloody miserable - well more than usual :-)  especially as Norwich are currently 2nd

Sometimes it can be a great feeling being a Norwich City fan.

Error prone goalie with very poor distribution. If he won the lottery and got a contact at Hull, I imagine it would be for an initial 6 months with an option of an additional year as number 3 keeper.

Came across this piece of info from an article regarding his trial at Hull:

The 27-year-old also had a trial with Championship side Hull City recently and is understood to have impressed during his time with the Tigers.

https://ninetyminutesonline.com/rangers-open-talks-to-sign-27-year-old-could-be-smart-addition/

Impressed but didn't do quite enough? Or got offered a contract but reconsidered due to the amount of game time he was told he'll get?

Hopefully something positive comes out of the Rangers trial.

EDIT:

It sounds like he might be doing enough to win a contract. I'm sure we'll get an answer one way or another in the next few days.

But in today’s conference Gerrard only intimated interest in Polster and one other player. This time New Zealand international goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic. Marinovic joined the club on trial a few days ago and now it looks like Rangers will be offering him a deal.

6th in the Championship at the moment, could be a really good outcome if he helps them get promoted and they sign him on a longer contract. If not, at least he's putting himself in a decent shop window for next season..

Sounds like only him and an Academy keeper are fit, so straight into the starting role against Leeds?

Though this article mentions another keeper returning from a loan spell at Gloucester.

Wood had 19 games at Bristol City in the 2011/12 Championship season.

Most of the chat on Twitter is about the Academy goalkeeper starting, he's already played five times this season and looked good apparently. Guess we'll wait and see

Imperative we keep Kurto now. Can't believe people were saying Marinovic would've been a big downgrade too, he's signed with a team looking to be in the prem next season. Fantastic for him
