Stefan Marinovic (TSV Grünwald | Germany)
Still no news about the outcome of his trial but fc ingolstadt seem pretty deep at GK position
has signed with fc ismaning in the 4th tier in germany after leaving sv wehen wiesbaden
One solution was the Sports Management for the goalkeeper problem, after substitute Matthias Luginger has suffered a torn ACL and the club has no third keeper. Newly arrived Stefan Marinovic, who was recently at the third division Wehen-Wiesbaden number two. The player with Croatian passport and NZ seeks to return to professional football and coached in the fall already in the Ismaningern. In a friendly against FC Augsburg II he was then also over 90 minutes his debut as goalkeeper Andreas Rößl was prevented because of a wedding. Marinovic showed a solid performance, even if a goal is not looked untenable.

Marinovic will be wearing number 30 with fc ismaning. Hopefully he is going to play more minutes especially that he has been inactive for 6 months

Stefan Marinovic was part of the club's lineup 2 times. He was 1 times in the starting team, got substituted in 0 times and stayed on the bench 1 time

Now "Stefan Marinovic - TSV 1860 Munich II" - the reserve team of Bundesliga Div. 2 side TSV 1860 Munich.
According to tranfermarkt.com, only signed on 15 November. So maybe no appearances yet.
Really good he found a decent club - 1860 Munich, the second biggest club in Munich who share Bayern's home ground, the Alianz Arena (cap. 71,000). In Bundesliga 2 since 2004 but mostly a Bundesliga 1 club before that. Even playing for the reserves is a good gig for him - in the shop window more than the smaller clubs he was with and never got game time for.
However, they have seven goalies on the reserve team's roster, so his opportunities may be limited.
Champions League side a decade ago.
1860 Munich first team: Avg home attendance 2012-13: 22,682
First choice goalie Gabor Kiraly is a 90 cap Hungary international & ex- Crystal Palace, Burnley & Hertha Berlin keeper.
Aussies Ned Zelic and Paul Agostino played for them a decade ago (Agostino: 248 apps, 77 goals; Zelic: 102 apps, 3 goals)

Functions as the club's u-23 side. Almost qualified for Div.3.Bundesliga last season (national third tier)
Champions of their regional league last season: "The club enjoyed a very successful 2012–13 season, now in the Regionalliga Bayern, where it won the league championship and qualified for the play-offs to the 3. Liga but missed out on promotion when it lost to SV Elversberg 3-4 on aggregate."
Currently third in the league behind leaders Bayern Munich II. Bundesliga Div. 1 sides Nurnberg and Augsburg also field reserve teams in the league.
First choice goalie for 1860 Munich II this season has been first team number two Michael Netolitsky (age 29)
One of the star players is 21 year-old current US international striker Bobby Wood (makes a few apps every season for the first team).

Complete official reserve team roster (called "u-21's" but is clearly misleading): one of seven goalkeepers!!!

Any news if Stefan has had any game time recently? I can't seem too much.

I love 1860 - they have had some amazing shirts over the years. I have this one (not me modelling)
but this one is my favourite (especially the sad lion in the middle which - to steal a phrase I read elsewhere - looks like it is watching its house burn down).
22 year-old Marinovic didn't get to play much for the reserves last season at 1860 Munich - one start on 16/5/14:
and one game on the bench on 24/5/14:
1860 Munich II (reserves) play in the same league as Bayern Munich and Augsburg's reserve teams.
1860 Munich II (reserves) have seven goalkeepers on their books. Marinovic is fourth choice keeper. Squad stats:

but, but, but Wynton reckons he should be an All White.
Defiinitely, proper player, proper contract, proper club. Who is your favourite OKeefe plying for now?
but, but, but Wynton reckons he should be an All White.
So we dont pick young players unless they are in the senior team.
Tuiloma - Howieson - Payne (clubless atm).
Why are the above considered good enough and not him?
Did he look out of place in the ge group games etc. No.
Just being devils advocate.
Lets look at the list.
Moss, Spoonley, Williams, Basalaj Crocroombe (or whatever it is) Gleeson.
Where do you think he fits in that mix?
I don't think he fits in... just playing devils advocate as mentioned. I just find it funny the number of double standards people have.
His situation is not different to so many others currently playing for the all whites why should his chances be laughed at?
Look at James - can't get a club atm (6 months now) but still gets picked for the all whites. Atleast this boy has a club!
Chris James doesn't have a club and he's one of our best midfielders.
Obviously ability and potential is what selection is based on and is he really better than our current keepers? Is he even better than the next young prospects?

probably somewhere near the top based on what i've seen of him to be honest

I've only ever seen him play on TV for the NZ u-20's where he was first choice in the u-20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011.
I remember him doing quite well there. It was only three years ago but it seems ages.
Basalaj and Turipa were the reserve keepers in the squad (Basalaj arguably has been the more successful since, having been the number one keeper in Partick Thistle's reserve/youth side last season but in 2011 at 17 was much younger than Marinovic):

Even as fourth choice in 1860 Munich's reserve team Marinovic would have to be in a list of NZ's top ten goalkeepers I suppose.
(The number one keeper in the 1860 reserves sits on the bench for the first team in Bundesliga 2)
He is one of only five professional NZ goalies I know of playing currently (Moss, Basalaj, Crocombe and Gleeson being the others).

I'd like to think Basalaj will be the young keeper that breaks through. No idea why Gleeson is off the radar nowadays and I really can't see Crocombe ever being an All White
He's been signed by SpVgg Unterhaching who play in 3. Liga so he's stepped up and hopefully gets more game time.
same league as my beloved Dynamo Dresden...you could do a lot worse. Probably the same standard as league 2 in UK
I would have a guess and say 3.Liga is technically better than League 2 but overall are probably equal.
I've watched quite a few 2. Bundesliga matches over the last few seasons and think the standard is quite good. Even the teams that sit around mid table like Ingolstadt and even 1860 Munich play good football. I reckon 3.Liga is probably better than league 2 and some of the teams would be equal with the top teams in League 1 and would probably do quite well in the competition. I haven't seen a 3 Liga match before so I may be wrong however from what I've seen of German football as a whole and League 1, League 1 is probably more physical route one type football for most teams whereas the German's are more possession based (not all teams).
I guess the only way to tell would be through pre-season friendlies against each other. Hopefully Marinovic get's some playing time because from the brief highlights I've seen of him he's a good goalkeeper.

It's really good he's got another pro contract and a chance for more playing time. At 22 he's still young for a keeper and has a chance to build a career. He's one of three keepers in the first team (the others are younger: Michael Zetterer has just turned 19, Felix Ruml is 21).
The Unterhaching manager was until recently the Germany u-19 national coach so he should be good at nurturing young talent.
Interestingly he'll be a teammate of the brothers of two German World Cup winners: goalscorer Mario Gotze's brother Fabian aged 24 (ex-Dortmund, Mainz and Bochum). Both brothers are products of Dortmund's youth system:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabian_G%C3%B6tze
Another teammate is Jonas Hummels the brother of World Cup winner Mats:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonas_Hummels
Pascal Kopke, teenage striker and son of former German national team goalie and current national team goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke (Euro '96 winner and World Cup '98 first choice) is also a teammate.
They've got a great coach in Germany legend Christian Ziege (72 caps) embarking on a new career in senior club management (has been a prominent youth coach at Borussia Monchengladbach and German national youth coach) - Euro '96 winner, World Cup Final 2002 etc. Played for Bayern, AC Milan, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Spurs. Two time UEFA Cup winner.
Former All Whites Aaron Lines and Mark Burton played at this level for VfL Osnabruck and Kickers Emden.

Hardly worth playing was it?

I did some digging to see if he has actually had any match time and I went onto Unterhaching's Facebook page and from what I translated he was subbed on for the second half against FC Wacker München. He didn't start against VfL Wolfsburg II but I don't know if he came on at all.

Surely he must hold the record now for the biggest winning margin by a professional team in a game a Kiwi has played in -
Your detective work shows he appeared in goal as Unterhaching thumped FC Wacker Munchen 24-1 in this game during the week:

"The term Wacker is German for brave" apparently !!!
Man, they conceded a goal a little under every four minutes on average...
I guess the interesting thing about 3.Liga is that a host of 1. Liga teams have their reserve or development squads in the lower leagues.....so when Marco played for Vfb II as he finally recovered from injury he was playing in 3. Liga. Many of the old East German teams are stuck down in 3. Liga and can't seem to cross the wall back into the top tier......I don't think there is one old commie team in 1. Liga at the moment
Are you sure about that?
Remember Berlin had an East and West side even though surrounded by East Germany the half Hertha played in was the West Germany half therefore not an old 'commie' team.
Dont think there are any DDR sides in the top division... There was a three in 13/14 2 Bundesliga, Dresden Cottbus and Aue
genau nah stimmt Hard News - Hertha were a wessie team which retained great support in the East, when the wall fell heaps of Ozzies joined the ranks again but they were a west team through the cold war.
2013-14:
2. bundesliga had the once great now shite hooligan team Dynamo Dresden, the Saxon mountain hicks in Erzgebirge Aue (like having a team in Hokitika, seriously it is most famous for making traditional nutcracker soldier dolls), Energie Cottbus (all Stalinist apartment blocks and grumpy old retired factory workers) and FC Union Berlin which was cobbled together in the East during the cold war from various teams.
Both Cottbus and Dresden have been relegated to 3. Liga though RB Leipzig have won promotion to 2 Liga for the coming year.
The wall was shit but it did make for a great football rivalry between East and West Germany - though knowing what we know now half the DDR team were probably on top-secret Russian performance drug cocktails.
