Stuart Holthusen has signed on at Portland Timbers. There's a good chance he will end up with Portland 2 or be loaned out, but he's with the first team for now.

My sources say he has a 2-season MLS Reserve contract, which should be about $1,000 USD a week

Good on him, for a first pro gig that’s really good ? especially when you consider a lot of his expenses would likely be covered by the club too (insurance, travel, accomodation).

Good on the lad, hope he kicks on and forged a decent career for himself.

Do you have an official source that can confirm this? I'm not saying you are lying just couldn't find anything. Maybe he hasn't signed yet?

He was a round 3 superdraft pick at number 64. These guys often end up at affiliates, B teams or loaned.

I know he was picked in the draft but that doesn't traslate into a contract. Look at the Niche Cache article, Cory Brown didn't travel with the first team for a 35 players camp (which is quite a lot) and Holthusen didn't feature in a friendly where almost 30 players played. Again, they will probably end up in the USL feeder teams but I don't see that happening yet

Contracts for draftees are not usually confirmed, until just before MLS season kicks off ie March.

I hope your source is a good one Reg, as at the moment still a fair chance that Holthusen will be cut by Timbers. From what I can see like Brown he wasn't required for Portland's pre season camp.

Tuiloma is getting good first team minutes in pre season so far.

I can confirm (source inside the camp) that he reported to Timbers 2 pre season at the beginning of the week. Currently it is a preseason training squad with some unsigned players, like Holthusen.
