I am surprised that he doesn't start more... especially in the DM role where we are weaker.
Themistoklis Tzimopoulos (Levadiakos | Greece)
Absolutely. You'd think being a week in week out starter + vice captain in a top European league would be a good enough acumen for Hudson

Not beep testing well enough / Soft spot for Souvlaki?
Subbed at 62 mins in a 2-1 win. He rarely doesn’t play the full 90 mins for his club, ............hopefully nothing serious if an injury.

Greek footballer Themistoklis Tzimopoulos had only visited New Zealand once, for his uncle's wedding, prior to making his All Whites debut. Now he's trying to get them to the World Cup.
Subbed after 80 mins in a dramatic 3-4 loss to Apollon Smirnis
‘Credited’ with an own goal.
Couldn't do much about OG.
A game of headed goals, and defensive blunders. Themi is no 8 (Giannia in yellow), and seems to give away ball in lead up in 3rd Apollon goal (the penalty).
Subbed twice in 2 weeks, so not sure how fit he is.
So was the game played on Sunday night (Monday 6th our time?) - hopefully he's on a plane to Wellington already!
Ummm, Ill just get you to recheck that link

Ummm.... not sure what happened there!
Can't really find a good alternative link (not easy to download up to date footage of Greek Super League it seems) - so suggest just use google
Had half a game (2nd half sub) on the weekend in a 1-1 draw, and got a yellow. His 4th card to date this season.
90 mins for Giannina in a 1-1 home draw, against fellow mid table side Lamia.
Levadiakos best Giannina 1-0 in the Greek Cup. Themi 90 mins and a yellow.
Scores the winner in 91st minute, in a 1-0 victory!
Been pretty average lately for Giannia & Themi in the Greek League. Two draws, and then two consecutive 0-1 losses.
However appear to be well safe of relegation, with only 4 games to go they lie 11th on 30 points, and are 9 points ahead of the relegation zone (Kerkyra being 15th on 21 points).
He must be giving some thought to retiring from AWs, given younger players coming through.
90 mins for Themi in a 0-2 away loss in Xanthi.
A yellow to give him 5 cards for season to go with his two goals.

I would still keep him in the squad, think his one of the better players

I don’t think he is one of the better players, but he is an old experienced old who offers potential mentoring to likes Tuiloma, Wynne, Mitchell etc - in a squad environment- esp if Reid, Smith or M Boxall are unavailable.
Loyal servant and if he can be around the AWs say another 2 years, given the above it would be handy I guess.
Also think sort of guy who has got some late career excitement and enthusiasm from international football. Never a chore for him jetting off to Fiji or New Calendonia from Greece.

I don't know how credible the sauce was but I recall reading something on here that Ricki knew of him
Certainly would have had him in ahead of Boyens, Mulligan, Clapham or Christie. Same goes for Oughton and Kosta.
I would have also said Andy Barron, but the story behind that was brilliant and he seemed like a cool guy so I wouldn't want that to have been taken away from him or the whole narrative of our world cup journey
He was also a better player than those four at the time IMO
Andy Barron - great player, lovely bloke.
That WC cap against Italy - the stuff of dreams!
Themi plays 90 mins in one of those exciting 0-0 Greek stalemates, as Giannina (11th on table) host Larissa (12th).
Giannina (31 points) are now safe from any relegation possibility. Kerkyra who lost 3-1 currently fill the 2nd relegated position (21 points).
Only two league games left.
I guess on reflection if Themi was stale of the whole Greek league - 8 seasons now at Giannina a club who will never probably win anything - a move to the Nix is a chance.
Tommy Smith moved on from Ipswich.

That sounds logical. He will probably never win anything with his club in Greece, so he must come to the Nix, where he could win lots of Wooden Spoons
A trophy of a sort. But the obvious is the Nix would a new challenge.
I see your point, but I just think Themi is already established in Greece. Don't see any incentive in coming to the Nix unless he's offered some good coin
I wonder if a vice-captain role would tempt him? From what I've seen of him (albeit limited), he's seemed like a leader
EDIT: Wikipedia has him as vice-captain at his current club
90 mins for Themi in 1-2 loss to Lamia.
Greek league finishes next weekend apart for teams in playoffs - which won’t involve Giannina.
Signed a new long term contract with Giannina yesterday to remain at the club until 2020.

Nice finish to Greek season for Themi. Scores a goal from a thumping header, as Giannina beat Olympiakos 3-0 in their last game.
Greek league was won by AEK Athens. Olympiakos were third. Giannina finish 9th.
Greek season starts as Giannina lose 2-0 at AEK Athens. ThemI subbed in at 62 mins with score already 2 zip.
Themi plays 90 mins against Olympiakos.
And like Chris Wood midweek is on the losing end.
Giannina go down 5-0 (2 goals conceded after 90 mins).
90 mins in a 2-1 win over Apollon Smirnis.
Is Themi still going to play for the AWs?
90 mins in a 1-0 win over Aris.
Not in match day squad during a 2-1 cup win over Atromitos.
Greek Cup comp is a format of various groups, before finals.
To date 4 games this season for Themi and 2 yellows.
