Yeah, I don't think character assassinations are necessary - it's likely he was dropped, didn't really like that, looked for other deals, found a better deal and now he doesn't really care about this season.

That being said if he does not care about the season i.e. attitude, then as coach, you move him to position 23. Professionals see the job out to the end because they are being paid to do so.
