Trouble for Boyd is that he seems to be unwanted at Besiktas, and, given they just won the league, he might struggle to get back in. Champions League should have easier foreign player rules than the Turkish league, but doubt they’d keep him if he’s unregistered for the league.
On the US national team front, he might struggle to make that team also. All the big hitters in the US squad in his position (Pulisic, Reyna, Weah, Aaronson and Musah) are younger and at better clubs (Chelsea, Dortmund, Lille, RB Salzburg and Valencia). He’s ‘94 born, and those guys are ‘98-‘02 born, so there’s quite an age gap for those players to develop further away from him. He looks to have become a fringe international, and I reckon he’s unlikely to make a 2022 World Cup squad, should they manage to qualify this time.
If the All Whites qualified, I wonder if he’d regret changing, because all he really has are a couple Nations’ League bench appearances, and a Gold Cup where he played against Guyana and Trinidad in the group stage, before not playing the semifinal or the final in which they lost to Mexico. Is that really any better than playing against the Solomon Islands or PNG?

His choice. I mean the All Whites haven’t played so. And I’d rather he was out of the tent than being a disruptive influence.
I think I was annoyed when he left the Phoenix, but he’s had a reasonable club career compared to a few. I don’t think we’re desperate for him to be in the AWs and he doesn’t want to so fairs fair. Play Just or McCowwatt or some other talent with Singh and Wood.
The interesting question for me is would we want him back at the Nix? Don’t think he should yet, or that he wants to, but I guess your vote would be no? Would he be better than Robbie Kruse?
