I'm at All white open training session at North harbour stadium.  Singh is running and he said on the news on Friday night that he was still two weeks away.

Speaking of relegations and kiwi loan players, Sarpreet Singh hasn’t been back to Serbia for a while and he might not be going back at all after his parent club TSC Bačka Topola were relegated following a 1-1 draw away to IMT in the final round of the Serbian Superliga. They were level on points with Radnički 1923 and actually had the better goal difference but the tiebreaker in Serbia is head to head record and they had two draws and a loss against them over the course of the season. Don’t blame Sarpreet Singh – he scored in the 2-1 loss back in October.

Singh still possesses another year on his contract with TSC... but it was already hard to see him returning once it became clear he wasn’t in the plans after Darije Kalezic got fired. Relegation only makes that outcome even more unlikely. To be honest, it might even help him to wriggle free if they decide they need to trim the squad or if his contract as an out-clause or the like. Singh scored two goals and got one assist in his 15 SuperLiga appearances. It was good until it wasn’t.

He's looked absolutely horrendous for NZ in the friendlies, genuinely completely off the pace which I suppose is not a surprise considering the lack of game time

Gut feel is he improved from Haiti game to England. He hasn’t been horrendous

Played ball to put Just through

Hard for him as the AWs attacking fulcrum up against Bellingham and the other EPL rock stars, NZ with less than 40% possession

The worry is his visible lack of physicality. That helps Garbett get picked, when Just is also pretty small up front. Iran look a big side

Looks like Baze has ruled out Waine as an option out wide, even though he went okay there for Port Vale

He's an obvious talent obviously short of match fitness.  Hardly unsurprising given the disjointed last 9 months or so.

Not wishful thinking but a season with the Nix playing every week would be a good opportunity to rebuild.  Otherwise he could sneak into some 2nd grade squad and ride the pines for another season...which is not going to help him.

Sometimes you have to go a little bit back to go forward.

There was enough quality in his game yesterday to remind us of how good he can be. Looking forward to him playing on Monday.

Farense had midfielder Yannick Semedo at the WC with Cabo Verde. Looks like he's off contract, and perhaps Singh is his replacement.

Semedo only played 30 mins at the WC total. But provided the assist for CV's 2nd goal against Argentina.

Rivaldo Morais is another Cabo Verde international (1 cap only) at Farense. He didn't go to the WC

There was a rumour of a club in Greece chasing after him. Instead he’s opted to return to sunny coastal Portugal where he’ll link up with a club that needed to win a playoff to avoid relegation to Liga 3.

When you put it that way, this sounds like a terrible move or him. We’re trying to see these kiwi footballers, especially those who were getting big minutes at the World Cup, moving to the strongest situations possible. Liga 2 probably isn’t any better than the A-League for quality.

But a
step back shows that Farense were a Primeira Liga team as recently as the season before last (that 1-0 aggregate playoff win vs Belenenses saved them from consecutive relegations) and have done heaps of bouncing up and down between the top two divisions in Portugal over the past twenty years. Singh was the seventh new addition of the summer as they rebuild under manager José Faria (who took charge in February), intent on pushing for promotion. And should they manage that then the Primeira Liga is a top-10 league in Europe.

So this isn’t an immediately glamorous move... but there’s plenty of method to it (along with the Portuguese climate being a whole lot nicer than Serbia or Wellington). Joining a second tier club to push for promotion is exactly what Elijah Just has also done, to be fair.

Singh on the pine for Farense

It’s also the case that Sarpreet Singh was left on the bench for Farense’s season opener in Portugal’s second tier (a 2-1 win vs Torreense). They’ve signed ten new players this season and most of them are attackers which means plenty of competition for places. Would imagine Singh’s simply being eased in after arriving late from the World Cup though.
