Is there a League Plate competition for Man Utd, West Ham and co to play in now?!!

Played full 90 for Hammers in a 2 all draw against Hull, good game.

Got  a needless yellow right at the end, otherwise was sound

wasn't needless at all - Hull were breaking and he made the right call to break it up with a cynical foul.  Completely the right thing to do.

Seemed to me that there were plenty of players covering, and it was near the half way line iirc

the guy with the ball was not going to run 50 yards and score, but Hull were breaking, and we were looking a bit desperate.  When he did it, I nodded my head sagely and muttered to myself "well played young man".

Doesn't the League Cup do that job? Unfortunately MU, WH and co. have cocked that one up too.

Good reactions Winston to get your head on it. Then a yellow card...., then win the ball to set off the second goal. Great contribution for your hundredth Hammers game.

Van Gaal will probably say this about every 2nd CB Man U face up until the Jan window.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I think he'd fit in there quite well. They need a bit of leadership from the back in that team. Depends what else is out there and available to them I suppose. They've already spent a fair bit of money, so Reid could represent good value for them.

Or maybe I should just bow to Leggy's one liner wisdom.

Or maybe you should watch how RVP did him like a dinner on the weekend.

I'm not saying that he might not do a job, just that I doubt that he is LVG's type of player. Has been booked 3 times already this season.

There have been  rumours that Arsenal want him. He is strong in parts of his game but very weak in others. Passing is what lets him down.

I reckon not.

Firstly, Man U's defence is not that bad. We have conceded 9 goals in 6 games this season but 5 of those goals came in one single game. That isn't so bad when we are playing 3-5-2 and have a lot of injuries. Plus Blind is decent but hardly a brilliant DM and he has only been there for the last few games.

Jones, Evans, Rojo, Smalling, Blackett is enough in the centre of defence. I really don't think you can argue Reid is better than any of those guys (except Blackett but he has done well this season). Of course, I would have wanted Reid ahead of McNair on the weekend but McNair played and did well. We are out of the League Cup and have no European football this year so depth isn't really an issue. There is no point us signing another centre back unless they are a player of real quality.

If Reid is going to go to a big club it would be Arsenal. Arsenal have quality first choice defenders but bad depth. Therefore Reid would help to cover that depth. I think people are deluding themselves if they thought Reid would be anything more than a squad player at a big club.

Surely West Ham is the best place for him?

At the start of his contract at West Ham no one thought he would make it there. Now he is indispensable, would suggest he is potentially capable of stepping up to a big team.

Reid NZ's second highest paid sportsman, although I can't see how Russell Coutts qualifies given that all his recorded earnings are from his CEO position with Oracle. Wonder where Steve Tew and Andy Martin are in the list? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11335078

David Gold reveals Winston hasn't signed a new deal with the Hammers yet (he would otherwise have been captain against Man Utd):

http://www.squawka.com/news/david-gold-reveals-win...

Guess this makes him a free agent come January? When does his current contract expire?

@Chez394: @davidgold how come winston Reid wasn't captain today. Presume it was based around refusal to commit to club.”

"Against Man United, Reid completed 97% of his passes, while he also won three of his four aerial duels.

Furthermore, the commanding centre-back also made seven clearances as West Ham tried to keep out Louis van Gaal’s expensive team."

I think you could definitely argue Reid is at least as good if not better than Jones,Evans and Smalling and nowhere near as injury prone.Jones is extremely overrated, imo.Reid would be a good signing for utd at a reasonable price and I really think are no chance of getting Hummels or any other world class defender soon so why not Reid.

Well we could sign Reid but it isn't going to improve our first team. If we needed more defensive depth then Reid will be ideal. I just think with our lack of fixtures adding another centre defender is a bit pointless. If you bring someone else in then that can cause problems with players who want more game time.

I just don't see depth at the back as a major issue for us. If we sign Reid we should be selling someone else and I don't see what we gain from that.

We wouldnt have to sell anybody in january because Davide Petrucci was named in the 25 official squad and then asked for and was granted a release so we have a spot available. We really only have 4 experienced centre backs 3 of whom are injury prone,I think 1 more is needed.I dont think Van Gaal would want McNair or Blackett playing against the likes of Chelsea,Man City,Arsenal and Liverpool at this stage of their development.
