Cheers for the heads up. Had him in my fantasy team at the start of the season and was pretty good at getting clean sheets. After watching West Ham without him lately it has become apparent what a crucial player he is.

He got a huge cheer when he came on. He is legend there. They love him

It's great that his first game back was a win. And anyone know if Arsenal are still interested in him? I'm sure there'll be a few EPL teams chasing him if West Ham get demoted.

REID REVELS IN WINNING RETURN
Winston Reid made a welcome return to action in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Swansea City
02.02.2014

Reid was back in the thick of things at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday

Another game as a sub, another win. Winnie is winning!!
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
there were a few renditions of "who put the ball in the Pikey's net? Winston, Winston. Who put the ball in the Pikey's net, Winston Winston Reid" in the pub before the game on Saturday. When he came on, there was a decent version of "We all dream of a team of Winson Reids". I cannot think of any other player who has 2 songs.

Continuing reports in the UK of interest in Winston from other clubs. This from a few hours ago:
https://www.westhamtillidie.com/posts/2014/03/14/is-marco-borriello-s-season-over
"There have also been other reports that Spurs have joined Arsenal and Man Utd is nurturing an interest in West Ham central defender, Winston Reid."

However, this from co-owner David Gold seems the most accurate summation:
West Ham's co-owner, David Gold, has spoken out about the rumours surrounding Hammers defender Winston Reid.
The New Zealand international, 25, has been linked to a host of other clubs this season after impressing early on, but hasn‘t been able to force his way back into the first team after recovering from a lengthy ankle injury midway through the campaign. Reid has made 14 Premier League appearances so far this term and was rumoured to be the subject of a £6m bid from Arsenal a few months ago, but no deal materialised.
Amassing an impressive 11 clean-sheets from the 17 games he's featured in for club and country in 2013/14, Reid had been enjoying a fine run of form when he was fully fit. But now he’s having to bide his time as manager Sam Allardyce has been partnering James Collins and James Tomkins at the heart of the defence.
Reid’s contract expires at the end of next season, so West Ham are keen to tie him down, rather than run the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer of 2015.

Man Utd would actually make a bit of sense - Vidic is going, Ferdinand looks done, and Reid is the sort of player that you could imagine Moyes liking

was at fault for the 2nd Stoke goal, where Fat Sam described the defending as "pathetic"

There was much bad luck in that from what I saw. Came out to close the space, made a block but the ball unfortunately deflected back into striker's path.

I think as a centre back, in those sort of situations you need to make sure that you win the tackle, or stop the man from getting past you - he did neither.
Picked as the key player from West Ham in an article on the best of the bottom half of the table.

Cos United is likely to be too poor a club by then and he should be aiming for better or...?

Winston comes in at no.2 in football365's top 10 of the bottom half of the league list;

Certainly seems destined for a higher team than the hammers. Go winston.
Winston Reid linked with Liverpool this morning in the UK press...

English based All Whites fan! Would love to watch an All White game one day.
So that's the 5th or 6th club he has been linked to? Until he gets transferred, its all just talk.
Grumpy old bastard alert
Would be a dream come true! I've always wanted to see the great dane combo of Agger and Reid together.
Jeff speaks the truth. I think he needs to be wise if he looks to move on from West Ham where he's big dog.
Has to make West Ham's playing side before any talk of transfer - unused sub v. Man Utd on the weekend.
Still injury problems / not fit ?

I think dropped based on some of the comments from the coach after last week.
not even on the bench today against Hull....something is up?
just his dinner then - thought West Ham might be moth balling him for premium price (and seemingly inevitable) sale in the off season.
he came back from injury when we were in the middle of keeping a number of clean sheets in a row, so it made it difficult to drop either Tompko or Collins for him. He got his chance against Stoke, and didn't play well so he got dropped again. Seems fair to me. He might be our best defender but on current form he is our third best defender so that is why he has been on the bench.
I do not know but if I had to Edin Hazard a guess I would suggest that it was him who made the call not to be on the bench last night. He may legitimately be sick but if not it was a massive mistake as Collins went off injured after about 15 minutes and Roger Fucking Johnson came on and played well. Reid may well be the 4th choice centre back at the club.

There's always next season for him.
We will never fully decide who has won the football.
Frankie, you are the worst kiwi supporter of reid. He has been excellent for hammers for long time. Agree re the fact they had been going through a good period defensively while he was injured which legitimately made it tough to bring him straight back in. Fair enough. But he wasn't that bad against stoke. I maintain he was pretty unlucky with the goal he was apparently responsible for. An entire team managed to allow somebody the opportunity to advance into the box. He went to,close him down, didn't quite smother it entirely and suffered a terribly unlucky ricochet leading to a goal. If the shot had gone wide nobody would have even remembered that moment. Allardyce has a tendency for seeing an entire match through the outcome of a single moment and if he blamed reid for that result then he was wrong. If reid really is 4th choice then he should definitely leave bc that smacks of disrespect for a player who has performed week in and week out for 2 years, and who has proved himself a good epl defender.
Marius - BFS dug him out about the 2nd Stoke goal after the game, and it seems we will always have a differing stance on how well he did there. Aside from that, what I read on West Ham fourms suggested that he didn't play well in the game, so it was not a great surprise to me that he was dropped.
And I love our Winnie, although I am getting slightly miffed at his refusal to respond to my offers of going for a drink together (written on his bathroom mirror, so it shows when the room fogs up after he has had a shower).

2-1 win to Hammers. Reid injured. Another coupla wins and they'll be in top half of table.
