LOL.          How many people on here thought Winston was good enough to play EPL before the 2010 WC.

I for one did not. Although not outstanding he has obviously worked his socks off to make it.

To  be fair, he was rated as one of the two best young centre-backs in Denmark before the 2010 World Cup along with Midtjylland team-mate Simon Kjaer.

Winston was first choice for Denmark's u-21's 2008 - 2010 (ten internationals).

Denmark's u-21 coach said in an interview that Winston was actually better than Simon Kjaer who had just gone off to Serie A club Palermo and has now played 46 times for Denmark.

Winston was a high-profile player in Denmark and had already played UEFA Cup matches including a highly-rated performance in Midtjylland's 1-0 win over Manchester City in Manchester (City's first ever home loss in European competition to a foreign team).

I see Reid is back on the pitch for West Ham. Good point with Tottenham.

bit of an anti climax, Geez, another 6 years of having to watch west ham

now I don't want him to break both of his legs. Great news. He will learn a lot of Billic (fingers crossed) over the next few seasons.

Winston Reid was thrilled to put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal with West Ham United on Thursday as he looks to take the next forward step in his career at the Hammers.

Reid has committed his future to the Club until the summer of 2021, and having already spent half-a-decade at West Ham, is ready to play the peak years of his career in east London.

He explained: “It’s one of those things that took a bit of time, but we got there in the end and I’m very happy to be here for the next part of my career. I’m looking forward to it.

“At the end of the day, for myself I feel comfortable here. I was speaking with the Joint-Chairman David Sullivan and everybody and felt like I was valued here. He was clearly very committed to getting the deal done and keeping me at the Club, so I’d like to thank him for that and I’m delighted to sign for the next six years.

“My family are happy living here too. We’ve been part of the Club living in London, so we weighed all the factors up and I’m delighted to be staying here.”

With the Club I’m looking forward to exciting times ahead and hoping to be a big part of it

Reid will form an integral part of the Hammers squad as they move to the new Stadium in 2016 and he admitted playing at the 54,000 capacity venue was a factor in extending his stay.

He continued: “It’s exciting times for the Club with the Stadium move too and that was a factor. It’s not just that, in general the people around the Club and the way everything works, I’m delighted we got it done.

“With the Club I’m looking forward to exciting times ahead and hoping to be a big part of it.

“I came here in a sticky period – the first year we got relegated, but since then it’s gradually got better. The team has improved, the organisation as a Club has improved as well and we need to do that if we want to go places.

“I’ve grown massively over that time too. Coming here five years ago I was only a young kid, but now I’m kind of a Londoner I guess! It’s a second home for me and I’m delighted.

“This season we’ve worked very hard but to break into the upper level does take a bit of time. Hopefully every single year we will improve and I’m sure we will go in the right direction.”

Reid becomes one of a trio of Hammers players to sign new long-term deals in recent weeks alongside James Tomkins and Mark Noble and the 2013 Hammer of the Year is looking forward to continuing to play alongside them.

He added: “For James Tomkins and Mark Noble they’ve been here all their lives. I’ve not been here quite as long as them, but come the end of this contract I will have been here for a fair bit.

“It’s nice for them to be here and I’m looking forward to the next six years of my life.”

Unfortunately, Reid’s involvement against Chelsea ended early due to a hamstring problem, but he is hoping it won’t keep him out for long.

“It’s just one of those things with the injury,” he concluded. “I had it a little after Crystal Palace and unfortunately it flared up again. It’s just part of the game I guess.

“We’ve got some time to recover now, which is much needed.”

I think that very few players who have played for West Ham over the past 10 years are true hammers - Noble, Tompkins, Collison, Joe Cole, Stanislas.  Basically, players who have come up from the youth system under Carr.  Going back even further and there are plenty of them that left for more money, including Rio and Carrick. Modern football is 99% full of players who will go to their biggest rivals for an extra few quid (Alan Smith going from Leeds to Man Utd anyone?) so the talk of a player being a true legend of a club has had to adapt.  It used to be 10 years service, and a few hundred appearances (like Moore, Bonds, Potts, Brooking, or Lampard Snr).  Now it is a couple of seasons without too many injuries, no rape charges and possibly a goal against one of the big clubs.

Saint Marco of Boogers folder Gary Neville in half at Old Trafford in one of the latest tackles I have ever seen - Neville past the ball in the first half and got hit by Boogers in the second - and for that I will always classify him as a true hammer.

Kind of an anti climax.....all the rumours about Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool have come to nothing. Winston has decided on another five years at a journeyman working class club. Fair enough if he wants that but he will probably never have a chance to play in Europe.....Champions League. West ham are having a good year but the reality is that they are a middle to bottom table EPL side who frequently are in relegation territory. Does this show a lack of ambition on Winstons part or did no other club really show a lot of serious interest?

Probably he is looking for game time, which I don't believe he would get in teams such as Arsenal or Liverpool. I mean, there he would have been a subtitute, even if he gets the chance to play in the Champions League, maybe is better to stay where he knows he will be in every game

Quite similar to what Nelsen did at Blackburn really. Personally I think its better for the All Whites ; rather than going to a big club, sitting on the bench and fading into obscurity. I dont think hes good enough to start consistently for a top 4 club.

I'm pleased for him, I'm pleased for West Ham and their fans, and I'm pleased for the All Whites.
