Quite similar to what Nelsen did at Blackburn really. Personally I think its better for the All Whites ; rather than going to a big club, sitting on the bench and fading into obscurity. I dont think hes good enough to start consistently for a top 4 club.

You could look at it the other way and say if he is on the bench for his club with the odd start then he will be more rested for the All Whites. I agree though that Reid has made the right move. He is a good player at a decent club but I don't know how successful he would be in the top 4. Better to stay with what you know.

Kind of an anti climax.....all the rumours about Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool have come to nothing. Winston has decided on another five years at a journeyman working class club. Fair enough if he wants that but he will probably never have a chance to play in Europe.....Champions League. West ham are having a good year but the reality is that they are a middle to bottom table EPL side who frequently are in relegation territory. Does this show a lack of ambition on Winstons part or did no other club really show a lot of serious interest?

he has already played in Europe.

West Ham are also about to move into a 60,000 capacity stadium and are a club on the up. I am sure he has had some assurances about the manager for next year (be it BFS, or someone else) which he is happy with. There is also the fact that signing a contract in football is realitively meaningless, and if he wants to leave, he will leave. If a top 4 club (or Liverpool or Spurs) want him in a couple of seasons, and he wants to go there, it will happen. This gives him the security, while seeing if West Ham achieve what they are settign out to do

What do most WH fans think of Parker these days?

Defoe and Parker both Charlton Athletic products.

Parker played more games for Charlton than he did for the Hammers.

I can't repeat here what Addicks fans think of Defoe but words like shark, fudge, mercenary bastard and cod would figure...

initial reports early this week seem to bring good news for both the Hammers and the All Whites with Winston seemingly fit enough to play again this weekend against Sunderland:

http://talksport.com/football/west-ham-duo-winston...

Unfortunately though, the latest statement from the club's medical personnel reveals Winston won't be fit enough to play this weekend:

 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11685/9765...

"But the club's head of sports science Stijn Vandenbroucke says....Enner Valencia (toe) and Winston Reid (hamstring) will not be ready for the weekend."

Brilliant to see our most prominent player putting a lot back into the game in NZ so other Kiwi kids get a chance at a pro career:

"The Wellington Phoenix Football Academy today announced that All Whites Captain Winston Reid will sponsor two scholarships a year to the Phoenix’ Academy beginning in 2015.

One scholarship is for a full football and residential scholarship at Scots College and the other is for school and football tuition at any of the three schools in the Academy programme.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome said the partnership had its genesis in the Football United Tour.

“When Winston was here with West Ham in July last year he expressed an interest in giving something back and helping promising New Zealand football talent.

“At that time, we made contact with Aotearoa Football Charitable Trust that he and Leo Bertos have an association with. We started a relationship then and have an on-going association with them and will continue to support them and the excellent work they do in Maori football.

“These scholarships will draw on that programme and will look at any other promising players from around the country who may need some financial assistance to be part of our Academy.

“If we find the next Winston Reid out of all this then we’d all be very happy!”

Winston Reid said that it was very satisfying to be able to give something back to football in New Zealand.

“I am very proud of my heritage and country of birth.

“I’ve worked hard to get where I am, but I’ve also been blessed in my career and this is in a small way is my chance to give something back.

“I want to encourage and give a bit of a hand to those football players who don’t have too much and need a little bit of assistance along the way.

“We talked about this with the Phoenix when I was in New Zealand last July and I’m really pleased to be able to announce this now.”

For further information and details about applications, please visit the Academy website at: www.wpfa.org.nz

Rumour has it that Marcelo Bielsa might be leaving Marseilles for West Ham at the end of the season. I wonder how our boy Winnie would fit into Bielsa's style? And what it would mean for Bill Tuiloma as well?

Winston, along with Ryan Thomas, is one of two Kiwis to feature in "World Soccer" magazine's "The 500 Most Important Players on the Planet" special edition in April.

He features along with all the usual big names and some lesser known talents.

p. 79

Not bad having two Kiwis make it.

There's only three Aussies (Cahill, Jedinak, Ryan).

Is Winston injured at the moment, or does the new coach not rate him or something? Not in the starting 11 or on the bench for West Ham's Europa League qualifier this morning
