He's earning double what our entire squad earns, so yeah would be a pretty decent signing.

Really good game this morning - West Ham beat Liverpool for the first time in 52 years at Anfield, and what a result 3-0!

Marshaled the defence brilliantly against a very very poor Liverpool side, who, to be frank looked bereft of ideas and relied too heavily on Benteke leading the line. Minimal other attacking outlets made it very easy for the hammers to hold up limited attacking raids, frustrate Liverpool's midfield into easy turnovers and counter attack with precision.

Reid missed a golden chance to get on the score sheet in the last quarter of the game, glanced a header wide from a corner from about the 6 yard box or thereabouts. Other than that, excellent game.

Now that other media have validated Winston stuff decided that the fact that VICE Sports featured Winston was good enough to break rugby world cup coverage on the home page, but not the game itself when it happened.

It was his first match back after a reasonably long injury lay-off,; and they had another defender who was suspended for the game, thereby increasing the clubs need to have him play. Otherwise he might have started on the bench.

I don't have a problem with it in this instance. Genuine injury; just returned; higher risk (maybe?) of getting injured in the Oman game after travel etc. I think it was more important for him to re-establish himself back into the his club team, and just make sure he is available for future friendlies in the windows.

Hudson said specifically in the press conference on selection for Oman that Reid wouldn't come because spending time on a plane would be bad for his hip injury.

Winston now out for 4 - 6 weeks with a hamstring injury picked up in training this week.:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11558947

It's the curse of the NZ Premier League centre back going back to Danny Hay and Ryan Nelsen.

All became very injury prone.

At least he should be fit again in time for the All Whites' next possible matches in the March 2016 FIFA window.

But it looks like he's going to be one of those players who constantly struggles with injuries unfortunately.

May see the Hammers look for additional centre back cover in the January transfer window?

I don't think that Winston is particularly injury prone, and it is mental to talk of a curse of the NZ premier league centre backs. Players get injuries and Reid gets no more or less than other players. Looking at his wiki page he has played 135 games for West Ham in just over 5 seasons - even taking into account the first season where he was terrible and barely played it is still nearly 30 games a season. Hardly Daniel Sturridge type stats.

In regards to buying in Jan, Bilic has said that he isn't particularly looking at it, but even if we do I don't think that centre back is the area we will be most focused on. We still have a bit of depth there (Collins, Tompkins, Ogbonna, Oxford) and our more pressing issues are with the injuries to creative players (Lanzini, Payet, Sakho, Moses).

Maybe it's more the curse of West Ham's training ground:

Bilic has decided that the recent glut of injuries to his players is due to their substandard training pitch and has brought forward the move to their new training facility to next week instead of the planned move at the end of he season:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/world-game/74991038/west-ham-coach-slaven-bilic-demands-move-after-winston-reid-training-injury

"West Ham were due to move from their traditional base at Chadwell Heath to a new training ground at Rush Green, Romford at the end of this season but will instead make the switch next week.

"We can't continue to miss this much players with these kind of pitches, which are not in good shape," Bilic told The Times  as West Ham's good start to the season stalls with a long injury list.

"We're going to move on Monday. The plan was to go next year, but because of the situation we're going to do it now.

"I don't see any other reason because we have a good medical team and good players and the sessions are good, and I told you that since I came here it was an issue – last year, two years ago or five years ago. It has nothing to do with the groundsmen or the medical staff – it's just the way the ground is here."

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It is an unfortunate fact though that there is a history of NZ Premier League centre backs struggling with serious injuries -

Danny Hay was just starting to get regular game time at Leeds when he suffered a serious injury and never appeared again, eventually being sold to Walsall. He struggled with that injury the rest of his career.

Ryan Nelsen missed about a third of Blackburn's games due to injury. He had major surgery on his hamstring after his first season in May 2006 when it threatened to be career ending after it baffled British surgeons and he went off to Finland for revolutionary new surgery. In April 2011 he had knee surgery but never fully recovered.

Winston Reid has only missed a handful of games due to injury most seasons in England except for 2013-14 when he missed 16 of the Hammers 38 EPL games (42 %) and 20011-12 when he missed 15 of the Hammers' 46 championship games (about a third). Last season he missed 8 of the Hammers 38 Premier League games, in the last few months with hamstring problems.

He's had a bad run recently with two minor injuries and now a hamstring described by Bilic as "very bad" which he thinks could be longer than six weeks now.

This season Reid has experienced three separate injuries already: firstly a hip and thigh injury and then a back injury keeping him out for three games. He probably won't be fit again until February now and will miss a minimum of eight league games and an FA Cup game.

Of most concern is his history of recurring and prolonged hamstring problems this year, stretching over from February to May at the end of last season when he missed eight games and was rarely fit and is now recurring again:

you are a muppet PRM. No issues with saying you feel he's letting NZF supporters down but no need for a post like that. OFC in PNG after a wretched season with countless injuries. Add to that NZF can't organise any friendlies as warm ups and you can see why he isn't on the first plane to PNG. Personally I'm very dissapointed and its just another sign of what things have become for our beloved All Whites. God I just hope Moses Dyer isn't picked. That will be the final straw.
