From what I have read on KUMB, West Ham don't really have a right back. Just midfielders like Behrami and Faubert that can play as right backs so maybe that's where they are thinking of playing him

If the Hammer's retrain him for RB, that would actually work out for the AWs very well.

I don't really see how playing a centre back out of position at right back is any better than playing a right midfielder out of position at right back.  I would assume that if the club have signed a centre back it would be because they want to play him at centre back.

I am really really excited by this but am really trying hard not to get too happy just yet after what happened with Blackburn and Arsenal rumours.

The only West Ham Site that has picked this up so far is

 http://www.westhamtillidie.com

Quite a few Australasian posts but the locals are all still getting up.

In the Mirror

West Ham are poised to complete the 5million signing of highly-rated New Zealand World Cup star Winston Reid.

Football Spy can reveal that the 22-year-old is the mystery signing the Hammers tantalisingly promised fans on their website last night.

Interesting quotes from the Mirror:

Reid has also been watched by Spurs, Everton and Aston Villa

And in a coup for the east Londoners, co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have swooped to land the centre-back, who can also play right side, after he was identified by boss Avram Grant as a priority target.

They see the signing as a coup, meaning they see him as a player who could have gone elsewhere?

I think you should take that with a grain of salt.  They may well describe it as a coup so as to appease their currently underwhelmed fanbase.  West Ham have been linking themselves with all sorts of high profile players while very much shopping at the lower end of the market - it's a very old PR trick.

BTW - the Mirror is a very nasty rag.

Danish fans were talking about Reid going to one of the bigger leagues pre world cup. he has been on the radar for a while, but the WC would have obviously given it all a healthy nudge.
It wouldnt suprise me if Serie A clubs were genuinely looking at Reid after Simon Kjaer made such a successful transition from Midtjyland to Palermo and now off to WOlfsburg. Reid has been touted as the next Kjaer in Denmark.
Then if you add the other Premiership interest rumours plus the talk about Bundesliga clubs chasing his signature  I think reasonable to believe there could well be competition for him. He hasnt come from nowhere and the fact he's played 100 times for Midtyland at only 22 with UEFA cup experience and all the Danish age groups stuff behind him means he's not exactly a wild gamble. he has been groomed.

Sky Sports UK is reporting that Reid has signed for West Ham United, pending a medical check. Should be done by the weekend. 4 million transfer fee.

Noah Hickey seemed to be able to get hold of him fairly easily during/after the WC.

Just thinking that. Who is current highest Kiwi transfer fee?
Nelsen was free to BB. Killens may have all been frees/off-contract moves as well. I'm struggling.

But it's been mentioned he's a centre back who can play on the right, so they haven't mistaken Reid with Paston.

The Sun is saying 3m pounds now. they also reckon he flew into London last night, has agreed personal terms and hopes to sign today.

Recommended consumption with salt.

They also reckon its a 3 year deal

Generally means a player who's job is to stop the other team scoring goals, usually a keeper or centre back.

yeah, i reckon. Elliotttt from Columbus to Fulham also a free transfer. What about Killen from Hibs to Celtic?
No, he was out of contract. so its Fallon I reckon.
also, we are off topic quite a long way in fairness now to Mr Reid (my fault)

Fallon was also 300k from Swindon to Swansea.

Smeltz would have got it, as Shandong payed the 300k buyout clause in his contract.

Killens only transfer fee was 200k from Man City to Oldham.

You would think that this deal would have quite a few contingencies, 4m is quite a lot for a fairly untried player (although he is young)

My photographer Frankie Max and I have requested a YF media invite to the unveiling, watch this space for an exclusive!

Family member has stated the deal is now done. Reid to West Ham, signed and sealed.

Quite a meteoric rise to fame for him, hope he does well.

Might suggest a wee loan deal to Hibs if he can't quite break into the first team straight away...

It will be interesting to see whether he is intended to go into their 25 man list as he is neither home grown nor U21, quite a hard place to be...
