Steven Jones and Jono Norman - Polytechnic 2nds

Beat Civil Service 3-1

Steven played in the Jonesy (the hole) and scored twice
Jono played in goal - made some good saves but couldn't kick a habit.

Appreciate that info, regular updates on young kiwis would be awesome.....

And I wouldn't mind a chuckle at the pub league progress of Normo and Jonesy either.....

Poly stiffs won 5-0 in a top of the table clash.  Jonesy scored 2 more and Jono the Cat chalked up a second clean sheet possibly due to his new gloves (although he did make a great save with his face).

Poly stiffs won 3-0 in the weekend.  Jono the Cat is now only about 950 minutes away from breaking Van Der Sars record for not conceeding a goal.  Jones notched again with a 2 yard wonder strike after the keeper dropped the ball at his feet in the 6 yard box.

Great work UK Kiwi. Chris Wood must be leading scorer or close to it in his league. Great to see.

Three for me, and two for them.

Poly stiffs are still top of the league after a 3-3 draw on the weekend.  Jones has continued his recent run of form with another brace taking his season tally to quite a few (official records are patchy).  Keeper Norman was "rested" after a shocking run of form littered with clangers.  He is unfortunately expected back on the weekend.

Huge match on the weekend against Nottsborough, 3 back but with 3 games in hand, a crowd of 5 - 10 is expected in what should be a large away section.

In other news, Charlie Miller's re-appearance in the A-League has lead many to ask the question - is he Steve Jones in disguise and just who has more chins?

PS: well done to these young kids, great to hear they are doing well

Where is Nottsborough home ground but more importantly the closest pub

Kick off and date, do I bring my media kit or some lose change for the bar

At least it would be better than following Blackburn at present

Just checked out the stoke website and read about the game, by all accounts he could of had a hattrick. Looks like he's doing really well.

Played the full game apparently in midfield.

Will he be our next Premier League player??

Not if West Brom get relegated...

That's excellent progress though as he's moved up from the u18s to the reserves and continued to score goals.

saw Woods play for WBA reserves against Stoke reserves on Monday.Stoke fielded most of last years championship squad as did Albion.
Wood scored great goal and will probably make his debut off the bench in Premier League before end of season.
Should be in All whites Squad by now !!!!!

Big statement Bob, he's only just turned 17.

But, arguebly he is training and playing at a higher level than any other striker we have atthe moment judging by the team names in hte squads.

good luck to him. I wonder if he'll possibly replace J Smith whose injured atthe moment at the Sounders?

Wyton, Old, and Brockie all played for NZ before they turned 18 (I think).  Shurely he'd be a better striking choice then one or two people named in the AW's lately.

Would Chris want to play a full international for NZ at this stage?
With it more than likely that a quota system will be introduced making it compulsory to have up to 6 players in your starting squad available for the national team should he take advantage of the fact that he has a British passport to progress as a local
If he players for NZ then he would be classed as an overseas player and possibliy reduce his odds of a lenghty stint in the UK
I think it would be prudent if he waits to see how his future career unfolds over the next few years
A more mature 20 plus year old Chris Wood would be a better option than rushing him in and  possibly denying him of a long professional career

He has played Juniors for NZ so he'd have to elect to switch back to England woudn't he, before 21?

I think there's quite a lot of water under the bridge before the home grown things comes into play, I think it's much more likely that it isn't done on birthplace/national qualification but more that you are home grown in that you are trained in the country (like the champions league rules).  Still legally, there's just such a problem with that 6+5 ruling.

But that's a very interesting point and one that may become an issue in the future.  From a NZ perspective I hope you're not his agent giving him advice

He,s got dual nationality cos his mums english.Got chance to speak to Roger Wilkinson who works with youth team and reserves he says Woodsy has adapted well to English game and is improving match by match .Already a couple of lower league clubs have tried to get him on loan.Roger rates him as the best natural goalscorer at the club!!

It should also be noted he's a pretty big 17yo as well.  I doubt he'd lose many battles against older players based on size.

If you have a british passport and play for the New Zealand All Whites, the quota system would have no effect on him. Effectively you are saying he is relinquishing his right to british citizenship because of sport. But he is not an overseas player (because of the uk passport) so it should not matter to WBA/any other club who signs him. Correct me if I am blindly wrong please...
(provided the quota system goes in place)

James, this is all based on speculation but I thought under the Blatter proposal that you had to be eligible for the National Team of that country, so if he had played for NZ he wouldn't be eligible for the English National team and hence not included.

But, and its a big but, there is an awful long way to go (and many legal challenges) before that comes into effect.

And I could be completely wrong on that one...

Interesting to note that 20 year old Michael Fitzgerald has been playing for the first team reserves in the J league for the whole of last season and named in the bench several times for the first team but when someone plays just a couple of games for the reserves at the bottom of the English league table, people are calling for him to be in the National side.
Not that Chris would be out of place in the NZ team as you will see many "Wynrs" boys in these teams in the future coming from the best Youth development program NZ has ever had!

So this guy is in the reserves at the J-League and you are comparing him to a guy playing reserves for a Premiership club? Hmmmmmmmmm

Albirex Niagata came 13th in the 18 team competiton last year. This season has only just started. We are not talking top 12 premiership clubs here. We are talking last and about to be relegated.
World club champs. J league came third. Manchester United winning the final and beating Gamba Osaka 1 nil in the semi final.
