Cam Howieson v Tim Payne

Interesting that Payne went over to the uk with the big rep, fresh out of u20s, fanfare, talk of pushing into senior squad, but has struggled to establish himself in Blackburn youth team, while howieson went under radar to burnley and has had great time starring for their youth team. Quite a quirk they are meeting in an FA Cup semi playing for historic rival clubs.

73 MINS: Cameron Howieson replaced by Jason Gilchrist.

72 MINS: Burnley readying a substitute themselves as Jason Gilchrist is ready to come on. It might be for Howieson who doesn't look comfortable.

Game on for the 2nd leg RR! Over 10,000 in the ground, Burnley bringing 3,300.

Rovers big muscular team according to reports and dominated 1st half, but Burnley came back well in the 2nd with Rovers down to 10 for the last 12 minutes. Howieson took a knock, but should be available for next Wednesday (Thursday morning our time), although his replacement has a reputation as a goal scorer (so may get the nod).

Some incidents post match sadly. A few posters on the Rovers board were disappointed by the long ball tactics, most reports have said the youth side play some pretty good football normally. I am hoping the return leg does go on ITV, then maybe someone will stream it.

Report on the FA Youth Cup semi-final first leg loss he played in:

With an attendance of over 10,000, the atmosphere was electric. The verbal jousting between the opposing sets of fans was amusing and provided a captivating soundtrack.

For a while, the young stars, unaccustomed to entertaining in such a raucous backdrop, seemed a little overwhelmed. Both sides looked rattled...

...neat interplay between Burnleys Cameron Howieson and Shay McCartan, saw the latter clear on goal, but he lost his footing, ballooning the ball wildly over the bar.

Report on his two goals in quarterfinal of FA Youth Cup v Fulham:

Mentions he has concussion from previous game but hopes to be okay for second leg of FA Youth Cup semi-final against Blackburn.

Second leg Thursday morning NZ time. Live text updates here:

Report yesterday in Lancashire Telegraph newspaper says club are moving quickly to get him on a full professional contract since he's only on a youth one, to prevent him being snatched by Liverpool or Newcastle who are showing interest:

Not as bad as it sounds, this Rovers youth side is one of the better ones in recent years. Hopefully next year he makes a break thru into starting. Joining half way during the season makes it harder to break into a settled side.

Burnley's loss to Blackburn youth in the Youth Cup semis saw the end of a remarkable 18 game winning streak.

Great interview and profile of Howieson, a product of Christchurch's Asia-Pacific Football Academy, in this week's Christchurch Press.
He signed a two and a half year deal with Burnley this week, having previously been on youth terms.
He's been scouted by Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Leeds
- and the Scots want to know if he wants to play for them (his dad's Scottish- born and lives in Christchurch):

Good to see Cameron training with the first team and playing for the reserves already.

He sounds a resilient personality since he said on Twitter he played the second leg against Blackburn days after suffering concussion in the first leg and Burnley's reserve coach says he played recently after a bout of chicken pox too and is praising him to the sky:

"Three weeks ago, he had chicken pox and he's not played an abundance of 90-minute periods, but he has great enthusiasm for the game, a gracefulness and elegance for the way he plays.

"In the second half, you've got a first-year scholar setting the example for everyone else on the pitch and showing them what you need to do. That is a massive positive."

Oly-White Greg Draper was on target on his return for The New Saints in the semifinal of the Welsh Cup. The league leaders thrashed Bala Town 4-0 to remain on track for the league and cup double setting up a final with giant-killing Cefn Druids, Wales oldest club who ply their trade in the second tier of Welsh football.

In a hectic schedule Draper also faces a midweek League Cup semifinal replay with Newtown after the home-and-away tie finished 5-5 on aggregate. TNS are unbeaten in the last ten matches in all competitions and could claim a unique treble this season.

Town youngster Built joins Bedford on loan
Michael Built has joined Bedford Town on loan until the end of the Evo-Stick Southern League sides season from Northampton Town, the Cobblers have confirmed.

The midfielder will be available for a free transfer at the end of the current campaign and has left Sixfields in order to gain some first team experience.

New Zealand youth international Built was originally signed by former Northampton boss Ian Sampson in January last year on an 18-month contract.

However, the 19-year-old failed to make the breakthrough to the first team and recently manager Aidy Boothroyd announced Built would leave when this season ends.

The Minimum Remuneration for A-League Players is as follows (excluding superannuation and any match payments:

  • players 21 years or above: $47,094.00; and
  • players under 21: $38,020.00.

[Edit: thats for the 3 youth spots, for the FSE I doubt they are getting much more than free board and food.]

From Football365

Aberdeen have handed a trial to former Bayern Munich youth goalkeeper Dan Twardzik.

The 21-year-old Czech - who plays in Italy with Serie C outfit Como - has been training with goalkeeping coach Jim Leighton and the rest of the squad.

Also on trial at Pittodrie is New Zealander Te Atawhai Maurice Hudson Wihongi - a friend of Dons striker Rory Fallon.

A statement on the club's website read: "With the January transfer window just around the corner, the manager is constantly reviewing ways in which to develop the current squad and will open the door to a number of trialists over the course of the next few months."

Meanwhile, Gary Naysmith should be fit for this weekend's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Dundee after making his return from injury.

The defender was back in action, after seven weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, as Aberdeen defeated Motherwell in the Under-20 League.

Nice comments from his former manager.

Must admit i have never heard of the kid before... seems to have been a pretty successful batch the under 17's with Payne, Howies, Tuiloma all doing well plus a couple others who names escape me.
