Joe Jeremiah, who's been on loan in the English Southern League Division One South (8th tier), has apparently been invited to come down to play for Eastern Suburbs to try get a gig in next year's U20 World Cup, according to a
story on Gloucestershire Live.
Bishop’s Cleeve’s Joe Jeremiah could be on his way to the 2023 Under-20s World Cup with New Zealand.
The 19-year-old has been playing regularly for the Mitres in Southern League Division One South after joining them on loan from Gloucester City.
He has been invited to join Auckland-based club Eastern Suburbs AFC at the end of January with a view to earning a place in the New Zealand Under-20s – known as the Junior All Whites - that will be competing in Indonesia next summer.
“I spoke at length with the Under-20s coach (Darren Bazeley) last week and was invited to join Eastern Suburbs,” Jeremiah said.
“Their manager (Kane Wintersgill) spoke to me about pre-season dates, how I play and that it’ll be a good chance for them to have a proper look at me.”
Jeremiah was at Cheltenham Town from nine to 13 before spending a couple of years in Newport County AFC’s academy.
His dad’s side of the family are from Wales and he was called into the Welsh regional squad and played in the Cymru Cup during his time with Newport.
He then joined Forest Green at 16 and spent two seasons as a scholar there.
Trials at Watford and Wycombe Wanderers followed before he joined Gloucester at the start of last season and was in and around Lee Mansell’s first team squad for much of the campaign.
Jeremiah was born in New Plymouth on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand, but his family moved to Gloucestershire when he was four.
