Tewi te pou is also back from trials in England at Reading, Ipswich and Watford

Waikato have been strengthened by the return of fullback/wide midfielder Tewi te Pou from trials in England but central defender Nick Branch and attacking midfielder Mark Jones are in doubt with injuries.

Exactly my point. Greg Draper was playing Mainland Football ffs. I know he used to play for the Phoenix and has done alright in the NZFC. He is playing at a very low level in England and this guy is even further behind.

However, my impression is even the 5th and 6th tiers of English football (i.e. the top levels of non-league football) would be superior to the NZFC.
Some of the non-league teams boast quite tidy grounds in fairly sizeable towns.
Remember Britain has a population of 58 million (about 15 times ours).
A Christchurch lad called Smith had quite a good career at Woking in the 90's and played in the All Whites. He made quite good money with a day job and payments from Woking.
Top Conference players often earn six figure sums and are too expensive for NZFC sides to sign these days. Keith Braithwaite (a former top Conference player before emigrating here and becoming one of NZ's top players of the 80's) has looked into bringing good Conference players over in the past to play for Canterbury United- but they are well beyond our price range...

Guys like Greg Draper should aim at the Conference National (5th tier) though, which is quite a lot better than the Conference South (6th tier)  he's currently playing in at Basingstoke.
Conference National is full of former Football League sides fallen on hard times, some of  relative distinction like Luton Town and Wrexham; others include Wimbledon, Darlington, Grimbsby, Cambridge, Mansfield and York.
Ground capacity of Darlington: 25,000; Wrexham: 16,00

Ground Capacity is hardly a judgement on the quality fo footbaqll though.  I mean Youngheart played at Arena Manawatu which holds 15k and Waikato FC used to play at a ground that holds around 26,000.

1000 pounds a week... possibly a chance somewhere recently relegated might still have players on that much.

Are we talking 6-figure in the UK or here?

Here I could buy at a very long stretch, but no-one in the conference is getting 100,000 pounds a year.

Average wages in league 2 are about 35-40k I read somewhere, I don't think that excludes some full time conference pros at the richest clubs from getting that kind of money - but it would only be 4 or 5 individuals here and there I'd say.  Remember reading that on the whole the general economic crisis has lead to a drop in wages in the lower divisions.  There are a lot of brown paper bags floating around as well

You do get the odd very wealthy club down there though, Croydon for example were signing guys from league 1 and splashing the cash around.  Widely reported that they spent more in transfer fees alone than the whole of league 2 together.  You'd assume the wages would match

Conference football is still relatively expensive to go to, some do charge up to 20 so they do have decent income streams and the top half or so are full time.

He still plays at a much better level than other kiwis in UK like coombes, tom lancaster, molijn, hibbert, withers and Hone Fowler. I know that except Rowe who is still very young there are few LB to compete with Lochhead so if he can play at least in the league 2 in the future he might be an option...

AVERAGE BASIC WAGE BY PLAYING POSITION details from a UK newspaper.

Prem      Championship     League 1     League 2

Overall          ï¿½676,000     ï¿½195,750                    67,850     ï¿½49,600

These are a couple of seasons old and are Average Base wage across all 30 odd squad players within each divisions clubs. Win bonuses and appearance money extra.

Yaya Toure is on 185K Pounds per week, Damien Duff is on 50k Pounds per week and N'Gog should be paying Liverpool to play him, get the gist.
Blue Squire Prem at a part timeclub pay is approx 700 Pounds PW so Crawley Town [team at top of table] probebly be paying league 1 wages. by reports I've found

He has been on loan/trialling at various Scottish clubs, including Rangers.

Is that because he doesn't look like making the grade at rovers?
