I forgot Clayton Lewis. It was hard for him to get that gig in England as he counts as an import

nah he got his English passport sorted before the move :) He wouldn't have been able to play at all if not for that, non-EU players can't play unless they have a special work permit and they meet certain requirements (something like playing in more than half of all your national team's games provided they're in the top 70 nations on the FIFA rankings)

Didn't know that. Great for him then

Makes sense. Even if PEC signed him he can't move until he turns 18.

Switzerland wasn't in the EU at that stage. He was an import in Germany as their rules wren't as tough as the UK, he had signed for Norwich but was unable to get a work visa so went to Switzerland instead

Few trials for young Kiwis in Europe that we can keep an eye on :)

Logan Rogerson - Carl Zeiss Jena (3rd tier in Germany)

Max Mata - Grasshopper (1st tier in Switzerland)

Leon van den Hoven - Waalwijk (2nd tier in Netherlands)

Moses Dyer - unknown club in Slovenia

Max Mata is the one with most promise IMO... considering he struggled at the NIX because of homesickness its a surprise he's over there.

Watching him play for Easts I thought he was an excellent and well worth a place in a decent national league team. Vision, decision making and longer passing let him down some times, but man he's got so much time to sort that out and Easts were playing the game at a quick pace which probably made it a bit harder

Sounds like FC Carl Zeiss Jena will make a decision on whether to sign Rogerson by the end of the week

https://www.liga-drei.de/carl-zeiss-jena-entscheidung-ueber-rogerson-naht/

From another article

Jena. Logan Rogerson's chances of winning a contract with FC Carl Zeiss Jena are good. The 20-year-old made an impression during his trial training. "He shows good approaches to speed and technique, but still has to learn tactically. He is a very interesting perspective player, "says sporting director Kenny Verhoene. Together with coach Mark Zimmermann and CEO Chris Förster he wanted to discuss whether the outside striker gets a chance at the third division. "Crucial will be the joint assessment of how long it will take to help us in the third division." Rogerson has been playing since the training in Jena and will remain this week.

That "has to learn tactically" part is interesting. Something similar was said about Tyler Boyd in Portugal. Some deficiencies in the way our local top players are being coached?

This indicates Rogerson will be signed by FC Carl Zeiss Jena if he manages to get a work visa. Guessing he doesn't have a Euro passport? https://www.liga3-online.de/bericht-jena-vor-verpflichtung-von-testspieler-rogerson/

Okay I don't speak Dutch. Is he officially signed or just trialling?

Article translates from Google as -

"Willem II welcomed James McGarry on the training field on Monday morning, reports the Brabants Dagblad. Twenty-year-old New Zealander was on the tribune on Saturday when the Tilburg team practiced against the Diessense Selection and the club hopes to complete the final formalities around the coming of the left back on Tuesday, after which it will be officially presented. The left back comes from Wellington Phoenix, where he worked under trainer Darije Kalezic. The Bosnian did not expect McGarry to be seen on the Dutch fields next season:

"Unusual that he will get a chance at the Eredivisie level. Because of injuries, I have not seen him at work so much. But it is a boy with a very good mentality, "he explains.Kalezic indicates that there are still a number of areas for improvement in McGarry's game: "He still has to learn how to make choices and his overview also needs to be improved", concludes the former trainer of De Graafschap and Roda JC Kerkrade. . McGarry has played two games for the main power of Wellington so far. On behalf of New Zealand he also participated in the Under-17 World Cup in 2017 and the Under-20 World Cup that was finished last year in India."

If he's signed is a great move. Willem II finished 13th in the Eredivisie (Dutch top flight last season).

RKC Waalwijk finished 14th in the Erste Divisie (Durch 2nd tier) last season.

Mods perhaps you can set up individual posts now for both McGarry & Den Hoven.

Hard to remember this many young Kiwis all at once getting (or potentially getting) pro gigs in Europe - especially if Rogerson also gets signed.

"For three weeks, the New Zealander Logan Rogerson participates in the training of FC Carl Zeiss Jena, now the striker should sign a contract. Whether Rogerson will then be used for the first team, should still be decided.Verhoene confirmedOn the weekend, there was the okay: As the "Bild" reports, FCC sports director Kenny Verhoene has now confirmed that auditioner Logan Rogerson will receive a contract in Jena.

The 20-year-old striker from New Zealand, who was last in the domestic A-League for Phoenix Wellington on the ball, had last presented for three weeks in training and probably left a lasting impression.Coordination with the foreigners authority

Now Jena wants to tie the attacker, but could then let him first in the second team in the league to use. Before that, however, some formalities would have to be agreed with the immigration authorities before a final sentence could be reported. With eleven games in the A-League (three goals) and nine appearances for the U20 national team of New Zealand Rogerson would bring despite his young age also international experience."

Carl Zeiss Jena, finished 11th in 3. Liga last season, 2 spots below Marinovic's old team Unterhaching.

Their home crowds seem to be in range of 5,000-10,000.

Great to see he’s been thrown into the first team there.

Let’s not underestimate how well Max Mata’s doing either - he’s part of the first team training squad (second row far left), and will be lining up to play Zenit tomorrow!

Back at Wests.  He is (was) too young to make an international transfer.  Same situation as Calvin Harris for the WeeNix.

Did hear there was a professional club who'd like to have a chat with him that doesn't involve an international transfer but...
