Met this kid flying back to japan. When they toured here in January. Sat behind me on the plane. Kept kicking my seat and put his feet on my shoulders. Was not a happy camper

Recently signed by Borussia Dortmund youth team:

Ollie Derlin aged 13 ex-Sacred Heart College, Auckland. Son of former NZ Davis Cup player Bruce Derlin.

Has been dividing his time between NZ and Germany recently (his dad coaches tennis in Germany).

"...While in Germany six months ago with his father Bruce, a former New Zealand Davis Cup captain who now coaches tennis in Europe, Ollie was scouted while playing for a local club.

He was invited to an open trial and became the first Kiwi to be accepted into a major Bundesliga club. [crap of course - What about Wynton + Marco + Aaron Lines and Mark Burton who were youth team players at Werder Bremen?]

...An intensive 14-week course to learn the German language also came with the package.

.Derlin played club football in the Auckland suburb of Onehunga under the watchful eye of former All Whites captain Danny Hay.

The holder of a German, Swiss and New Zealand passport, Derlin says that representing the All Whites at a World Cup is a dream of his..."

Never heard of him, but good on the lad.

Good to see these young kids train, play, learn and absorb everything football has to offer in some of the best set ups in the world.

NB - As a side note, I though Rojas was the 'Kiwi Messi'?

Already turned down two EPL clubs plus Roma (see East Subs website). Kid knows where he's going. Could be he's the East Subs tyro who was getting personal coaching from one Billy Harris I recall reading about a year or two ago.

This kids was at a couple of AFF FTC trainings last term, What I saw of him he was very quick on the ball and could read game very well and work his butt off, which many of these kids at these sessions don't appear to do because they are to good to! He seemed like a good kid. Not 100% sure of ins and outs but his dad said he was just in the right place at right time.

Really nice kid and Dad. He went over this time last year. Futsal is very big in Spain and a key part of their development. The story goes that it was a chance meeting in a cafe in Auckland I think, but he has obviously made the most of that chance, hope he keeps developing!

Former NZ u-17 international (2008-9) born in El Salvador and started in NZ football at Ellerslie:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/east-ba...

He's been playing in Northern League First and Second Division for a few seasons now (this season and last for Mangere United; before that for Lynn-Avon) - was one of the league's top-scorers last season playing for Mangere in NRFL 2 (promoted to NRFL 1 this season):

http://aff.org.nz/index.php?id=44&tx_ttnews%5Btt_n...

Why in the "Kiwi Players Overseas" thread? Was he playing overseas before that? Is he any good?

Why would playing in the second tier of Northern League football qualify him for the All Whites?

why kiwi's overseas?  because he's been mentioned in this thread before.  he used to play in south america

he previously declared for el salvador and played u20 games for them, but i wondered if he would now be available for new zealand seeing as he's been here for a couple of years (i was referring to eligibility, not ability)

Strange this. Born El Salvador, came with parents to NZ in 2005. In 2011 aged 18 he was an All White Olympic triallist (Milicich reckoned he had everything except strength) who then left NZ to spend a year on the books of Argy superclub Independiente after which he played pro Argy 2nd Div with Atlanta and repped for El Salvador U 23's.

And now he's back in NZ playing for .......  Lyn Avon and Mangere??????????

Don't be fooled by this. The kid can play and has pace to burn and is easily Premier division quality. He was at Mangere for the same reasons as was Mario Billen and Aaron Bawdecker - Mickey Byrne cash. Plain and simple. Mickey went missing for a couple of weeks and Ernesto left. He does have some deficiencies more around strength on the ball and defensive work rate but as to why he went to Lynn Avon (I assume that's where he turned up after leaving Mangere as you referenced above).... who knows.

I read yesterday about some 16 year old kid from Wynton's academy of to Werder Bremen for a 2 week trial. Can't recall his name.

Probably more to do with Wynton's contacts than anything, but still, good luck to the kid.

Is it just me or do we seem to have less youngsters overseas (ignoring the us college system) now then 5-8 years ago?  There used to be loads (for NZ anyway) in youth academies now but that seems like its drying up.

Ideas?

Spanish academies are now scouting our youngsters and flying them off to Spain:

Ryan Feutz of Ashburton, a striker aged 13,  is now at Spanish academy CF Cracks in Valencia after being scouted by a Spanish scout visiting Christchurch and subsequently impressing in a two month trial late last year.

Ryan had been attending the International Football Academy (IFANZ), a private academy in Christchurch.

INITIAL SCOUTING 2014:

http://ifanz.co.nz/ryan-feutz-off-to-cf-cracks-in-...

On Monday the 27th October 13 year old Ryan Feutz will be on a plane for a 35 hour journey to Valencia Spain where he will begin an experience of a life time.

Ryan an IFANZ player created a player profile on www.playerprofiles.co.nz , shortly after the call came from spanish football scout and sports lawyer Ignacio Labernia who was interested in coming to New Zealand to view Ryan training. In june 2014 Ignacio arrived in New Zealand where he came to an IFANZ training session at Dudley Park, Rangiora and was impressed with what he saw. Ignacio requested that Ryan come to Spain in October for one months training at the CF Cracks Academy.

Ryan will train for one month with CF Cracks a very large football academy that have strong links with the Valencia CF and FC Barcelona Clubs as well as many other clubs, this will be great exposure for Ryan. Ryan will be home stayed with the President son’s family who was also a past professional footballer himself in Spain.

As part of Ryan’s preparation Ignacio requested that Ryan increase his training to five days a week for four months. To achieve this Ryan moved from Ashburton to Rolleston where he lived with IFANZ Marketing Manager Piri Reiri and his family, he also changed schools. Living away from home has also given Ryan extra confidence.

MARCH 2015 - OFF TO THE SPANISH ACADEMY:

Wednesday March 11 2015

http://www.guardianonline.co.nz/sports-news/feutz-...

"...After being invited to trial for the academy in November – he was offered an extended stay after impressing the right people.

In the high stakes environment he produced the goods to be offered a place at the academy this year.

He’s under no illusion that he has to keep impressing the ‘right people’.

“The pressure is still on but it’s a different kind now.

“In the two months I was there last year it was pressure on every day, all the time because I knew they were looking at me. Now that I’m in the academy the pressure is on to keep performing and develop to prove I deserve to be there and should stay there.”

Ryan knows what to expect, what is expected of him and just what’s on the line in Spain.

It’s a daunting prospect a world away from his family, who won’t see him again in the flesh until December, but he can’t wait to get stuck in..."

This Forum site has been a goldmine of young Kiwi talent overseas

- the U17 side in 3 years time may have players from Cracks, Spain (IFANZ), Ryan Feutz 13, Dortmund, Ollie Derlin 13, Barca, Otto Ingham 12,  & Cracks, (IFANZ), Seth Cark 14. Even if they only get a few seasons with these clubs before they are released - it is a great foundation and confidence booster for these lads.

The next cycle may see lads from West Ham, Travis Dally-Braun, 10,  Inter Milan, Alex Cooke, 9 & Cracks again, Thomas Reiri 8,

http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/sport/6947365...

https://www.macleans.school.nz/events/2014/21a-10-...

Older players that have received call backs are Conor Tracey, 17, GK at QPR age grade, and two more Cracks lads through the IFANZ, Kieran Pinkney 17 & Ellis Hare Reid 16, GK

I see A C Milan are also looking at taking a few Kiwi lads back to Italy for training after their camps in Wellington in July and January, they also mention that they want to set up an Academy.

I see, after re-reading the article - the Academy location is still undecided.

Two Nelson Suburbs players have a trial in Croatia

http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/sport/70056996/...

and AC Milan are to pick 4 young Kiwi footballers for a week in Milan,

- the vibe is that they are looking at positive, talkative, go getters to train the AC Milan way.

DomPost, back page, 11 July

 - Nathan Rostron, 11, wins a trip to AC Milan for a week in March.

- 3 more trips on offer - plus a place for players at AC Milan's Academy if they impress coaches in a "call back", tournament, in NZ next year and during the week long trial in Milan.

I guess Nathan needs some intensive coaching between now and then - any quality coaches live near Papamoa?

Dean Gibson, 16,  was at Crack's (IFANZ) for a bit. He and Seth Clark returned to NZ, and last I heard they have been offered to go back. There's another boy who is currently in Crack's, by the name of Treye Butler. Good kid, knows his footy. It's all in the Player profiles website: http://playerprofiles.co.nz/
