Hi all,
Wonder what our politicians plan to do for football's benefit, given it's an election year?
Suggest we all take note of the below (published in today's The Australian) and get on the case of each of the candidates in our respective electorates, prompting a commitment out of their parties to invest in football.
Cheers,
JR
Soccer nets $16m from the Rudd Government's Federal budget
by Ray Gatt and Nicole Jeffery | May 15, 2008
SOCCER was the big winner in the Rudd Government's Federal Budget with the sport to receive $16million in funding over the next two years.
The funding honours a promise made by the previous Howard Government which announced last September it would provide the extra money on top of the $16m the code already receives from an existing four-year agreement.
The money will be used to help kick-start the Women's National League, promote "participation in and support for football in Australia" and to help funding of Australia's national men's and women's teams from juniors to seniors.
The sports facilities that will be redeveloped include the Cricket Centre of Excellence in Brisbane ($17.5m), Campbelltown Stadium ($8m), Newcastle's EnergyAustralia Stadium ($10m), Penrith Football Stadium and the adjoining Howell Cricket Oval ($5m), the Bradman Museum at Bowral ($6.5m) and Punt Road Oval in Melbourne ($2m).
yeh had this out in a thread when Andy Cole's potential signing wasn't something to talk about...wrote emails to the minister pointing out what a crap job we were doing compared to Aussie..got referred to SPARC twice...
But being honest the admin over the ditch seems like a better investment than our one where nobody seems to want to stay in the job...hardly an encouragement to sink money in...
