Should they win the 2018 bid, which stadiums can or will be used. Baring in mind you are only allowed 1 stadium per city with the exception of one city being allowed 2.

Melbourne - MCG, Telstra Dome, Bubble Dome (two of those three)

Sydney - Olympic Stadium, SFS (one of those two)

Brisbane - Suncorp

Perth - Subiaco

Adelaide - AAMI

Canberra - Bruce??

Gonna have to start building me thinks.

Three for me, and two for them.

It would seem to me that to appease the AFL they are more likely to go with 2 in Sydney rather than 2 in Melbourne. The NRL can cope with losing those 2 grounds where the AFL couldn't with losing both MCG and the Dome.

I think they plan development in both Newcastle and Townsville, presumably Gosford would get in on it aswell and maybe develop Robina a bit more. Not sure about any more

I dont think the Bubble Dome in Melbourne can now be upgraded to meet the minimum 40,000.

There's a contract in place between the Victorian Government and Etihad Stadium that prevents a 'similar size' stadium from being built until 2025 or so.

Hopefully if Australia gets the bid this will be fixed, BUT Etihad Stadium CEO Ian Collins (who was once President of Carlton AFL team) did say that he's "open to all offers" regarding use of Etihad.

I believe that the AFL will take FULL ownership of Etihad around 2025, 3 years after 2022.

Etihad was meant to be rectangular for the Sydney Olympics, but the AFL got involved and sold their previous outpost of Waverley Park to part-fund Etihad.

The decisions on Melbourne's stadium made in the last 10 years were before soccer's re-growth, hence the dilemmas you see today.

Subiaco's big and round as well isn't it? Will they have to move the seats in like Etihad? Is that even possible?

At the moment, no retractable seating is available at Subiaco, unless the new plans have it included.

Great location though is Subiaco, just 2km's from the City Centre and 2 blocks from Hay Street, Subiaco, a trendy part of Perth.
