It would be great to have another born and bred Welly in the team. And Bertos is certainly good enough.

My only concern is by stocking up on kiwi talent, we run the risk of being hit hard come international fixture clashes. That being said, I'd love to see Leo and a few other All Whites in yellow and black. Right now we need defensive depth more than anything though.

Well since there's talk about A-League matches being moved around to accomodate Aussie international matches the same should (but likely wont) happen for us kiwis.  If that did come into place as it should then we don't have to worry about having a large kiwi contingent.  Besides as we saw against Sydney we do have enough depth to play a secondary team if its required.

They should be at the same time - FIFA have dates marked that all international fixtures should be played on.

So in the case of last week, there wouldn't have been any game on, Oz v Nigeria, Olyroos v Iraq, then Wed NZ v Vanuatu

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

better that the nix players go on international duty for the  all whites than the socceroos, more aussie talent we have the more it's gonna hurt when they go off on international duty
You know we belong together...

The A-League don't play during international dates for Soccerooclashes, hence the only concern is for Olyroos and international (NZ and other) players. But as HN pointed out above, the A-League is thankfully looking to change that, so now there's more incentive for us to get AW's

But stoking up on national players wont help our international hopes because we wont have daniel and felipe etc we have ryan nelson and simon elliot

and the aussies pull in viduka and cahill

its not going to make and differnce

This is all well and good, but can he play fullback

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I wouldn't be surprised if Felipe is let go this year. Why? I think they are looking for someone better and all this reported travel to Germany, Holland, England and Brasil is a lot of travel just to buy 2 foreign players - I think they're looking for 3. Unless they are after Ivan in Holland and then.....hmmmmmmmmm - I don't bloody know.

felipe is better of the bench. but you dont want 1 of your imports on the bench
Permalink Permalink

agreed we dont want our imports starting on the bench, especially if we have valuable ones.

anyone who is supposedly good enough for foreign status needs to be good enough for constant starting eleven.

we dont want another george.

I don't really think we'd miss Felipe that much next year if he did leave.

Mate you are crazy, he's hogging the marquee spot as well as the sub bench. Not even first team status.

Good but when there are more internationals outside of the window which we need for any pre-tournament build ups, so it still remains a problem. All Whites needs are not necessary the needs of the Australian teams. Truly, we still need another NZ A-league club (maybe based in Christchurch, South Island) in the future to spread some players about for much need experience. Three NZ A-league would do fine, to be honest. But of course that is unlikely in the near future.

Damn you Auckland, we could have 2 NZ A-League teams by now!

Only heard that Daniel would be looking to be naturalised, but not Felipe. As good as they are, we shouldn''t rely on oversea talent for our national team.AllWhitebelievr2008-01-28 18:02:55

1) going by current media reports etc. i dont think this will be a problem
2) AGREED! ...if it is sustainable and we have sufficient depth (new team may need to look at bringing back established kiwi players eg: Oughton, Vichelich, Mully etc)
3) give it 20 years

Elrich clearly has ability, but it's over-ridden by a big attitude problem, and he needs to grow up. What, does he think being a professional footballer comes easy? If you're not moving forward, you're sliding backwards. That's where he's at. Plenty of others hungry enough and good to take his place.

Not saying you are necessarily wrong but how do you know he has an attitude problem? I think his touch is pretty terrible at the moment and we all expected more from him, but he seems to put in a lot of effort on the field (despite what some say), and the fact he sometimes loses it when he is subbed isn't necessarily a bad thing. He should want to be on the field, good on him for being passionate!

Maybe he can lift his game for next year. I'd definitely pick Daniel and Leo over him at the moment though!

i'm not going to really make a full response to this, but suffice to say, people seem to hide behind the word passionate far too much on football forums.

To be fair it's a big part of sport. Agrression, passion, the will to do everything you can to succeed... I think most people would agree that a player that gives their all and believes in what they are trying to do is better than one that doesn't. Not hiding behind anything - just pointing out that a player that has a few rough edges but wants to be on the field and wants to win is better than one that doesn't.

Passionate? From what I saw of Mr Elrich last season, petulant would be a better description.
