Best NZ Sunday Paper for Football Coverage?

OPINION ON THE THREE NZ SUNDAY PAPERS
(SUNDAY STAR-TIMES, SUNDAY NEWS, HERALD ON SUNDAY)

I'm quite keen on the "Herald On Sunday" for its football coverage- and, yes, this edition of the Herald does use"Football" as the heading for its round ball coverage, in contrast to its parent publication "The NZ Herald" ( an issue which irritates so many fans it  has its own forum topic). The "Herald On Sunday"'s sports results section also uses "Football."

During the World Cup it dedicated 8 pages each Sunday to footie coverage (mostly on the All Whites), though things being a bit quiet here and internationally at present until the new seasons get underway, its cruising at a couple of pages.

Michael Brown's a good football writer and pens all "the Herald On Sunday"'s local football coverage (which was a lot of work during the Cup).

Best of the Sunday papers for football coverage for my money. Some good original research by Mr Brown...
No-one else seems to have picked up on the UK ed. of "4-4-2 Magazine" naming our Ricki as coach of its tournament XI.
Good Paul Ifill interview last Sunday.

It's nationally available now too: I buy it at Whitcoulls in central Christchurch on a Sunday. Probably available at Whitcoulls in other major centres too.

Don't get the Herald on Sunday (or any other day) but it can't be hard to beat what is put out by the SST, so I would imagine it wins almost by default.

Agree the Sunday Star-Times coverage is pretty pathetic and has  actually got worse in recent years. Billy Harris could use his column for useful discussion on local football but seems to witter on about tedious stuff involving FIFA or players diving or some such...

I think Simon Plumb of the Sunday News deserves some kudos for his original stories and interviews. He's a journo I only came to notice during the World Cup when I read all three Sunday papers. But he does a good job turning up original stuff:
e.g. he contacted English goalkeeping legend Peter Shilton during the Cup and got a really good long interview from him about the Cup, the Jabulani ball, state of English goalkeeping today- and he even had some advice for Mark Paston.

Think the Sunday News and the Star-Times are owned by the same people, hence there's sometimes some duplication of stories e.g. Simon Elliottt's World Cup Diary appeared in both (though edited in a slightly different form).

Herald on Sunday does a miles better job than the SST. Basically bc HoS has Michael Brown and he is bloody good.
