CHE BUNCE'S RETIREMENT

In my opinion Che Bunce has jumped before being pushed out of the All Whites. He is simply not playing well enough at A League level or international level.  To point the finger in Ricki Herbert's direction is somewhat unfair and smacks of sour grapes to me.  Face up to it Che you're not cutting the mustard anymore!

He was on the total football show last night. Basically said Ricki was too pre-occupied with Phoenix whilst in Sth America. Is looking for a 2 yr deal in England

Short memories boys. He and Tambo were the form defence in the round for the Knights last year and Buncey scored a great header v Sydney when we beat them - also he's better than what we currently have at the back - I'd take him anyday.

Thats quite a statement for your first post. Concise, abusive, grammatically challenged, irrational and completely lacking any fact, nice one you must be proud!

Quick to forget who stood out in defence all last season and proved he was adept at A league levels.

It will be interesting to see how Old holds up at this level.

the fact is bunce is old, isnt getting any younger. and by the way this phoenix team is getting made up it is one for the years to come. just like not getting danny hay, we arnt in NEED of bunce. im sure the nix could pick up some mid twenties player who still has some years yet to develop with the maturing team. as for steven old, hes 21, need i say more.

we definitely need someone at te back with a bit of mongrel like Buncey or Van Steeden. Yeah he may spend a fair bit of time off the pitch but I'm sure strikers would think twice before going in for a 50/50 with Van Steeden.

oh i wouldnt go that far Multilyith. he could always take up a job as boot cleaner in the NIX changing rooms. maybe putting out the corner flags before the games. looks as though some people are desperate for him to be down in Wellington for some reason, im pretty sure his days with keeping up with younger more skilled footballers are gone. there was a reason for him retiring wasnt there? or was that an excuse

Thats abit rough coming from a guy that supports Steven Old, the "boy is clearly a never was and wont do anything for the Nix. As for the old man that told you that bunce has proved himself, hes kidding himself, the only person in NZ soccer at the mo that has proved themself is Ryan Nelson. The nix DONT NEED old losers like Bunce. They need new flesh like the wonder man TOTORI! Now hes a player and a half. Good Celebrator too!

players dont make teams for their celebrations, plus if the Nix are anything like knights (like they would turn out to be by bringing back bunce) they wouldnt  be having many times to show off their celebrations.

It was a great idea to bring Ricki to the floor, atleast he knows a thing or to more than the people writing up bunce, ever wondered why he hasn't been given a contract? (as yet - but i doubt he would even get a look in now considering he cut his on throat retiring)

The NIX are going to be good, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT BUNCE

i'm not suggesting Buncey come back in at all but do we have someone with a bit of mongrel at the bcak cuase that is what we need

Every year there are over 600 players released from contracts throughout the top four divisions in the UK - and every single one of them would be better than Che Bunce! His only chance at the Nix was if they were desperate, which clearly they're not. Ronaldoknow2007-06-01 22:06:02

Multilyth and oldys#1fan and Ronaldoknow must be seriously misinformed. Bunce is a good player and would have done well at the Nix. He scored a good goal versus Sydney when we won 1-0 and he commanded the defence well. Believe me oldys#1fan, I'm not saying Stephen Old is bad, not at all, but I don't think it's wise to criticise someone who is so obviously a better footballer than the player you support.

Loyalgunner is prolly as old as bunce and just wants the old guy to have a run. Misinformed? I cant think of anything that bunce has done good in years? Sure he scored against sydney but it was in a game that nothing considering we had already been thrashed in every other game. And a game that sydney played terrible in anyway. If you are a loyal gunner you would know arsene looks for the young guys to bring up and doesnt go signing old farts like the knights did. As for steve old, ( a guy that was named captian all through the age groups ) he is obviously being groomed to be the next cap of the all white when he is a tab older and has a way better future ahead of him then bunce could of dreamed of. Bunce is old news. Like the knights. So loyalgunner we are not misinformed, you are probly just bunces dad. P.s tell Arsene to spend some cash this season!!!!

Perhaps you aren't misinformed but I think you are wrong. And no, I am not Bunces dad and I am not Bunces age either (I'm 16). You said the Knights got thrashed in every other game, you couldn't be more wrong. They did get thrashed sometimes but they were also competitive for reasonable portions of most games. And, with regards to you talking about Arsene Wenger buying young players, what does that have to do with the Phoenix? Wenger works with Arsenal. And you will also find if you look at the Arsenal team, they aren't all young (Lehmann, Henry, Rosicky, Hleb, Gilberto), so if the Phoenix were to take Arsene Wenger's approach there would still be room for older players (like Bunce). We are each entitled to our own opinions, ours obviously differ.

If I could tell Wenger to spend some cash, believe me, I would.

Bunce is too slow to play professional football, it was embarrasing watching get exposed so easily when playing for the knights, the phoenix are better off without him.

Bang on Herman!!!!  I cringed everytime the opposition made a quick break when I was watching the Knights last year!!!! Noah Hickey was the only one with pace and he wasn't even a defensive specialist but a utility player!

Shame on you all for short memories.  Buncy got picked up at a young age and has played fairly highly in English and European football (Championship level) where as some others, notably Old, have failed to live up to the talk and was lucky in my eyes to be picked up by the Phoenix given he was dumped by Newcastle.

True he was not the fastest player on the park but hes tall, solid, got a great head (all adding up to mongrel) and is no where near as bad as Haysey in the "tin man" department.  I recon personally he was the best player in the first NZFC who didn't play up front.

Bunce did look ok at then end of last season... but i think that had more to do with ricki and his ideas than anything because up to then bunce didn't look at all good.

He couldn't pass, and that's why he was probaly told on the kiwi tour to S America he wasn't going to get a contract(im am speculating here).

Ricki has said he wants attacking possession football, Bunce doesn't fit that mold, nor Tambo... thus he didn't get a contract.

Both good players in a longball type scenario, one which we are moving away from thankfully.

Obviously doesn't have to many fans if he was trying to sign for cambridge in the northern league division two.

Well Old played really well today and as for the Phoenix central defence they were magnificent.  Buncey has had his day.  Looked ok under Ricki Herbert late in the last A-League season, but if he was so brilliant why isn't he playing for a Premier League club like Ryan Nelsen?  Sorry but benchwarming for Coventry doesn't cut the mustard! Ricki was right in discarding him for a Phoenix contract and hence the sour grapes attitude from Bunce.
