New Football Magazine Launches

A new football magazine launches this week in New Zealand – and it’s free.

FANZ: The Football Magazine is a digital magazine published by the supporter group Friends of Football.

The magazine, which will publish at least four times a year, can be found at http://issuu.com/hurricanepress/docs/fanz_1/0.

The first issue is 44 pages and includes coverage of our national sides, award-winning photographs from the recent football media awards and columns.

Record-breaking All White Ivan Vicelich is the cover story and the issue’s main feature is a nostalgic look at football’s former headquarters, Newmarket Park

Friends of Football chair John Morris said his group was keen to use the magazine to bring supporters of the game together in a positive way.

“We want a magazine that celebrates what’s good about the game. We believe FANZ reinforces what our group is about – building heritage and recognising those who help our game to succeed,” he said.

The magazine launch caps a busy year for Friends of Football who last month staged a highly-successful Celebration of Excellence event which incorporated the annual football media awards with speakers such as NZ Football CEO Andy Martin and All Whites coach Anthony Hudson.

Morris said Friends of Football already has several events lined up for early 2015 including a lunch before the WaiBOP United v Team Wellington match at Cambridge in January, a BBQ at Newmarket Park (which has been rehabilitated into a recreational park) and a day at the races.

Still no more issues after the first one last December?

They said it would be quarterly, but it's already April....

They should've gone with seasons not months on the cover. More leeway with release dates :)

FIFA have a weekly magazine you can read for free online through the same ISSUU website as the Kiwi FANZ mag.

Always some interesting interviews and articles on leagues, tournaments, teams, players and history.

Will no doubt have coverage of u-20 World Cup 2015 soon, plus FIFA Women's World Cup.

Current and archived issues:

You can read all previous copies of its predecessor "FIFA World" (2009-13) here:

It's nicely put together, but pretty light on content/substance.

Enzo I liked your Herbert interview work. I could actually hear him (in my head) saying the exact words you transcribed. Uncanny.

I also find it hard to give a shark about any organisation that has Sam Malcolmson on the committee.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I'm sure they would welcome contributions from others in the football community!  Josh@hurricane-press.co.nz

I have had absolutely nothing to do with the magazine apart from saying yes to everything Josh has asked if he can use from my blog. It's been a long time since there was last a NZ football magazine (Soccer Talk) and I think this effort, while it might not be perfect, it's a thousand times better than nothing. Let's get in behind it.
