I see they are going to add an extra ref behind each goal to capture players diving and for the ball crossing the line in UEFA cup games. What do you guys think? is it a good idea or do you think they should use the technology thats available?

Has been trialled already at some age-grade tournaments. Be interesting to see how it works at the top-level.

was it successful? How does the fourth and fifth refs come into play with regards to pen's?

That would be an absolute c**t of a job - stand around in the rain and snow for 95 minutes, just to have to make one or two decisions about if it is a corner or goalkick each game.  About once every 10 games, they will asisst refs with a decision about the ball crossing the line or a penalty.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

How is this different from being a fan? Advantage, now you get paid to do it. Disadvantage - you won't be able to watch any team you give a toss about

Wow they get to run right up to the edge of the penalty box from the goal line. I suppose that the on-field ref wouldn't have to worry about the diagonal running between the two ARs anymore.

There's normally about 3 or 4 infringements happening off the ball on corners and freekicks that the ref doesnt see.  With the extra officials I hope it doesnt result in more pen's

Apparently the trial runs so far is that the players settle down and actually play the game and not get into the antics. So the penalties kept to roughly the same count and the on-field ref has a closer following to the main action.

Watched the Dinamo game this morning with the 5 officials in the game. Made sweet f-all difference. Based on this one game, I can't really see any point to making this permanent.

But I guess its value (or lack thereof) can only be assessed over a longer time period, so I'll reserve my overall judgment for now.

I suppose that an extra official on the pitch can actually get in the way of the players, even in the way of the path of the ball if they are not careful. I heard that in the age games, there was less antics and hissy fits compared to the times before. I am sure there would just less incidents to deal with as the player's behaviour settles down and there are less reporting involved.AllWhitebelievr2009-09-19 02:02:59
