Below is a link to the world game web site. After clicking on the link if you scroll down to ASIA FOCUS you will come to two Frank Lowy links. I don't know if they are that different but it is interesting to listen to where both OZ & the A-League is headed.

Sorry F********g SBS changed their heading, from Asian to Aussie.

Problem is they have hundreds of videos loaded but all through one site so a direct link is impossible (another story of never except a government body to do something simple, in fact you sometimes wonder if there was a bonus for the guy who could make it so  no on could log on)

Anyway to answer you question they have placed it Aussie.

I found it by clicking in the   - latest ( a box heading on the left hand side)
then -   See all 69 videos, (at the end of the laestest box)
then -  Ausie focus  (loads across the top after the see 69 loads)
Then -   clicked on any of the four stories they had running
Then  -   scrolled down until I found the Frank Lowy picture

Sorry YF the site page changed from when I posted it, so I hope it does not change agian.

Good luck hope you can follow -----------and is Frank worth it.

Could'nt make it work...got an error message!

Could you please tell us ( in less than 500 words), what Mr Lowry said about the A-League.
I am interested as he is Mr Hot Shot in Oz football.

I see Farina doubted there were currently enough good players in Oz to rapidly increase the A-League....especilayy having three teams in queensland

Sorry about SBS as I said earlier the guy that set this site up must have won a prize for making it hard.

Key things that concern the A-League he believed there would be two extra teams next sesaon (I guess GC & Townsville), and a further two teams within four years hopefully three years these teams will be a second Sydney & Melbourne teams.

Then a further two teams added within a reasonable time after that, with the 13 & 14 place open to all comers, he gave no indication of where or who simply well managered and with money.

Crowds he expected to grow a little each year, more sponsors on baord given the Asian champions league & Pan Pacific. He believed the A-league was becoming accepted as a acceptable when compared to both NRL & AFL.

Believed the FFA should do all it could to help build and develop football in Asia.

He was not worried what the NRL or AFl where doing, FFA have to do what was within its power but do it very well.

Training of juniors was important.

Fair bit of time on the Socceroos and there impact on Australia now, and the coach, won't bore you with it.

I guess in summary he implied within about a 8 to 10 year time frame a 14 team comp, with ACL and Pan Pacific after season comps, reasonable crowds, with the game in a financial healthy position.

For spots 13 & 14, no one is ruled out meaning a second NZ team is possible but not within 8 years.

Frank runs fotball in Australia he says jump and everyone says how high sir. But always remember he is a friend to NZ,....why you ask ...because he gave his word to FIFA, NZS (at the time) that he would do all he could to help build NZ football and would not let you down with Australian going to the AFC & leaveing the OFC. When all Australia said look at Auckland there are 12 other bidders in Oz wanting the NZ place he held out almost until the season started to get the right mix and then sent Mark Coaral to get it right, but Frank Lowy is why the Nix's are in the A-league, and its Franks influence at government that has got football massive governemnt funding to develop our juniors and womens games.

Hope it helps and F SBS and the guy that set it up.

Frank Lowry knows a bargin and is a great visionary for the game down under.

Yeah it is likely that it's either Wollongong or Western Syndey for the NSW Representive and either Geelong or South Melbourne FC will be the Melbourne Representive for those 11th and 12th spots by 2011.

In 2014, for the 13th and 14th spots it would be a challenge for a second NZ team based in Christchurch or a Pacific islander team based in Auckland to the spots with the previous failed Melbourne and Sydney bids from the likely to bid again and then Canberra, Hobart, and far north Queensland. (If they can fly to Hobart they can fly to Christchurch being on the same latitude.)

So maybe a 16 team league by 2019.

18 team league by 2022? and 20 team league by 2025? Then that would parallel the EPL team limitation. However it would be FIFA insistence for all domestic league (especially La Liga, EPL, Series A, Ligue 1 -the top four leagues in the world with the 20 team league) to be at the 18 team limitation.

Say at the 18 team limit accordingly to FIFA desire.

Then at 13,14,15 16, 17 teams has to be like Melbourne 2nd bid, Sydney 2nd bid, Canberra, Tasmania, Far North Queensland (Darwin or Carins) first up.

Then the race for the 18th team for grabs by 2022. I have a feeling an Oceania team based in Auckland with an reverse import rule, having all players from Oceania are regarded as local to the A-league and anyone else including New Zealanders and Australians are foreign import. (which is going to raised to 6 places in an a-league squad) would be the 18th team. But a convincing 2nd New Zealand with good finanical backing would be the apple's eye. Would FFA will try to go up to a 20 team league to include a third New Zealand and maybe another Australian team?

Mmmm. . .

Thanks Midfielder....for that summary.

Football in this part of the world looks in good hands. I hope the A-League expansion doesn't stretch the resources too much. Both in terms of financing and player numbers. Great to have the Phoenix as part of all this. Its a good time to be a football fan.

One small point. Do you think FFA has buggered up the playoffs. There was great momentum at the end of the regular season then for some reason the playoffs have dragged on, stopping and starting. Now we find the seasons showcase, the grand final is on a the same time and city as a sell out one day cricket international!!!!

Ronaldunno.

You raise a good point on the timing but and yhis is by no means an excuse it was suppose to be played last weekend. Why change the date half way through.............because after an earlier friendly it was believed that A-League players would be needed for the Qtar match. Then they found that the Qtar match and the grand final were only days apart. The press went into a frenzy about how unfair it would be the local game was not being respected and so on. The result was the weekend after the Qtar match the finals were cancelled and moved back one week.

However thats only the start, and for a bit of local knowledge about the F3 derby. Many of those that wish to have the odd ale or 25 will catch the train to Central Station in Sydney and do a pub crawl from the station to Aussie. Only trouble is both lots of supporters need to catch the same trains on the same line. The supporter groups of both clubs have been calling for calm and to walk away from volience all week and a threads in both supporter group forums are calling for the same.

But prehaps 15, 000 maybe more fans many pissed to the eyeballs being on the same trains for hours on the journey home.

cheers midfielder for the Lowy summary

it does seem a shame the finals have 'draggged on', the media here (well, one paper that I've read) have poked a bit of fun at the situation

great news that a second NZ team is a possibility and that the league will grow to a decent size
