Rory getting a nomination isn't right for me, should have been Smeltzy. Golden Boot and player of the league as well as current leading scorer.

Dont think Rory will make the final cut, hopefully Nelsen will. AWs should make team of the year final 4, can't see anyone beating them in that category.

What are Ricki's chances for coach of the year?

I think it will be close between him and Tonks or did one of the cycling coaches do well?

So is Paston going to get his coaches badge?

He needs to start practicing his shoe throwing technique now.

No lochead?

Going to be seriously pissed if rowing or something wins over the all whites. Ricki could get coach of the year, though wouldnt the phoenix form count toward that also?

Meh, World Champs win>Qualifying through Asia for World Cup.  Qualifying for 2nd round however would beat anything else for me.  Ryan Nelsen may go close, but Drysdale may be tough to beat.

The problem I have with rowing is that they have World Champs every year though, so its hard to put it into context.

As far as I know, the Rowing WC is held every year, has multiple categories, multiple distances, and bugger all competitors. The Olympics would rate higher wouldnt it?

Can i invent a sport that nobody plays, play in my own world champs, win it,and be nominated for this and rank higher than the AWs qualifying for the biggest global sporting event in the world for the first time in 28 years?

Sorry, but Rory Fallon?!?! They are joking aren't they?

Drysdale will walk it. The AWs should easily win the Team Award.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

He going to demand money from them for using his name in nominations? He did score the winning goal though Jag,probably deserves a nomination but without being close to winning the thing. Though by the same logic Paston probably shouldve got one for saving the penalty.

Fallon doesn't deserve to be there.  Smeltz and Nelsen I'd say.

Hoping we'll get team of the year and coach of they year.  That's what I'm expecting anyway.

Sportsman of the year would be a bonus.

Yea the Fallon one is really odd for me, surely it should be Paston if you were talking about contribution to that one game.

Nelsen to make the final 4 and Drysdale to win it, 4 world titles in a row is nothing to be sneezed at.

AWs should win team, maybe the rowing team that won gold will push but should be the AWs

Hopefully they'll take into account that rowing is a mickey mouse sport competed in by a group of approximately 3.

The Phoenix matched two significant league records - highest win and longest undefeated streak. Hopefully the judges will look at that when considerig his Nix coaching.

Smith's closing remarks about Paston are pretty silly.  DISCLAIMER:  I am not arguing that Paston is poor, didn't contribute, or should be dropped.

For the home leg, one might as well nominate the White Noise for their contribution.  (Anyone who claims that penalty was not affected by crowd intimidation is deaf.)  For the away leg, Paston only had three saves to make, and was very lucky not to have been picking the ball out of his net.

Paston was solid and dependable, but he wasn't the key performer for the All Whites (Nelsen), much less the best New Zealand performer within a team sport (Vettori).

Halbergs are a joke. Brendon Telfer has to be the biggest hypocrite of any judge in the Halbergs history.

He didnt give the Kiwis a nomination for team of the year after they won the world cup because in his words, "The League world cup is worthless" and only a handful of countries play it. Yet hes given The Silver ferns a Nomination for Team of the Decade at this years halbergs.

Arent Netball and League silmiar in size globally?

Also if your going to give Richie Mcgraw a Nomination for sports person, why not Ryan Nelson or Sean Marks the EPL and the NBA is a lot harder to crack into than a freakin all blacks.

What the AWs has in their corner was the fantastic turn out for the return leg of the Bahrain match by the crowd and that many have remarked that it captured the spirit of sport and motivated and influence many young peoples dream for the future even more than the 1982 team. The other sports are repeating victories but what the AWs had done was a great amount of fresh air to sports in the country. The amount of support that match received was greater than what the ABs had for years, better than the Netball and Hockey, was more home-bounded event than Rowing and outdid the Rugby League World Cup efforts.

You couldn't ask for a better fairy tale/story than what the AWs had that year. If it does not have enough credit to win the team award this time, then the AWs will never win that award unless they get to asia and win every game and finish top of the final qualifying group. But even then, that is no insurance of winning that award. At the moment, the other sporting teams are the same old and nothing special.AllWhitebelievr2010-01-24 01:18:45

According to dylan cleaver of the nzherald its a disgrace that richie mccaw isnt sportsperson/team of the decade, just freakin mindblowing the bias some journos have,a s for john mcbeth, yeepers what plant are these guys on.

The halbergs may of not nominated rugby players this year, but they sure as hell wont give the awards to spoers they deemed to be in competition with union.

Thats why rowers/sailers/lawn bowl players always win over the years, and our footballers/league players/basketballers will miss out.
