Hurricanes want their own Yellow Fever
Went to my first game of the season tonight, there didn't look to be many down in the Flying Squadron area. It sounds like they were trying to get things going, but can't hold a candle to the Fever.

Glass houses and stones come to mind here! (My God those smileys are awful)
What a pack of whingers! We would never complain about the cost of tickets & food.

Does the squadron have a steve-o or nufc_nz equivalent on its forum?
Don't think they even use the forum. Maybe we could spruce things up a bit?
I'm quite surprised that it has not grown as such. Considering it started in 2011. However, good luck to them. Purseverance may result in an improvement. Forum lay out is clean and tidy. Guess their fan numbers are just not interested in posting.
Hurricanes first hit out of the season

Does show that it is not just the nix who are struggling to get crowds.

Didn't we get 12K to our first game?

Fantastic idea
There once was a time when ST holders were on a waiting list and the stadium was jam packed at every game for the Canes and NPC side. Their product is the same. perhaps the rip off food and beverage prices? Perhaps the rip off car parking prices? Perhaps the rip off merchandise prices? The sellers have to condier, "families" with two or more children don't have the dosh to spend as such. They are looking for value for money and rightly so. Currently at Westpac Stadium other than my aforementioned comments, perhaps the mega fucken loud music might also be putting some off. I go and like to chat to people without having to shout to be heard during breaks in play and to saviour any atmosphere that may have been building. But no, they have to blast any fan built atmosphere away with that fucking loud music.

Novelty factor of a new stadium as I recall. Just like Dunedin are seeing an upturn in crowd numbers currently. It will wear off.
I went to sell-outs at Athletic Park in the first few years of the Super 12.
Why do we continue to ignore the job losses and people's lower levels of expendable income when we talk about crowd numbers? They're all down, across most sports, regardless of the product on offer. It's a no brainer. It's happening round the world too.
When I was going to S12 sell-outs the food was worse, the drinks lines were worse, the beer was the same/worse. The Canes were the same. The weather was the same. Everyone just had more money.
And I feel for this Flying Squadron group - if there's one thing the Yellow Fever has always had, that they don't, it's media exposure. YF was in the news from day one when Terry stepped in to start the Nix. When big things happen like yesterday, we've got Guy Smith on the radio answering questions. The Squadron have none of that. They don't get shown or mentioned on tv either. Last season Andre Taylor invented a try celebration with his hands out the side, like a plane - it was a salute to the Flying Squadron, but the commentators didn't get it, so they said nothing. These boys need to get themselves in the public eye if they want to grow. There was one little thing in the paper when they started and that was it.
I went to one sell out for super 12 at Athletic Park and that was 1997 vs Brumbies when we were on a magic winning streak to the to the semis that year. I don't remember any others. But you're right crowds were a bit higher those days in general. I think there was also the novelty factor of professional rugby being a new exciting thing perhaps.
And yep, I take your point. The economic downturn has definitely had a big impact.

To be fair to the Squadron, it's not like the franchise has come out and encouraged them is it? You see nothing in the press as such, at the end of the games you don't hear anything from the players thanking them. I feel for the members. A good idea that's not been utilized properly.
Sounds a bit like YF this season.
On a similar note, a petition has started in Western Sydney to get the Red & Black Bloc to switch allegiance to the local AFL team.

If they allow flares at AFL then watch the exodus.
No Hatamoto at AFL...
Am I missing something or has the FS forum not had a single post in 2013?
