Not to sure whether I am going to hate Palmer in the future but loved what he says here about the Gold Coast and Football.

The line I liked the  best was "In a chilling message to rival codes, the $2.5 billion man will unleash the full force of his intellect, resources and sheer will to turn a whimsical fancy into a reality."

There is more on the link if you wish to read.

It doesn't go into any specifics of course, so I wonder how he is going to go about this besides the GC franchise.

he'll be bloody lucky, to be honest, he just sounds like another roman abramovich. i'm happy he's pledging to put his money into the sport itself and not just his own club, but if he plans to keep bringing in guest stars hes gonna end up with a very unsettled squad, not to mention the possibility of getting owned by the salary cap, spending big on some and having to settle for mediocre for the rest

Next year will see the formation of an AFL club ('Aussie Rules') on the Gold Coast which will put some serious pressure on an A League team to produce quick results. These two codes will be going head to head to lure fans from a not particularly large population pool. Chuck in Rugby League too and it could well end in tears for someone. Palmer will have to shell out big bucks. I hope he has the staying power.

I keep thinking about the sad example of Gretna in Scotland whenever I see these billionaires with their "chilling messages".

Chilling messages usually result in someones funds being frozen. Usually poor old mum and dad investors, or creditors of a club.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?
