John Aloisi signs...for the Mariners
John
Aloisi signs for Central Coast
Mariners
Socceroo and World Cup hero, John Aloisi, will be returning to Australia to play for the Central Coast Mariners for the remaining games of the Hyundai A-League season.
Socceroo and World Cup hero, John Aloisi, will be returning to Australia to play for the Central Coast Mariners for the remaining games of the Hyundai A-League season.
John
has played the majority of his career in Europe, however, John has
made it clear for some time that he wanted to return to his native
country and the Central Coast Mariners have made this
possible. John said:
I
have made my intentions clear that I have wanted to return to
Australia and contribute to the A-League and I am delighted to be
able to be a part of the league and look forward to getting on the
pitch. Since the Hyundai A-League began,
its been an attractive
option to play in and I felt now was the right time to return as I
am still intending to play for a number of years. I would like to
take this opportunity to thank the Central Coast Mariners for
offering me the chance to play in the A-League and have been
impressed by their professionalism during the past few days, in
particular the efforts of Lyall Gorman and Peter
Turnbull.
Paddy
Dominguez of Johns
management group, Inspire Sports Management had this to
add:
There
have been a large number of clubs making offers to John over the
past five months, and we are very grateful and flattered by all
their interest. John has been waiting for a deal that he felt
completely comfortable with before committing himself and has been
in no rush to sign something for the sake of
signing.
John
is a much loved and respected bloke and a firm favourite with the
Australian football supporters, and he will add serious commercial
value to both the Mariners and the A-League in general. I think
Johns acquisition
speaks volumes for the Mariners ambition, and we recognise the
efforts of Lyall Gorman and Peter Turnbull in making this a
reality.
what's the source?
That's from the CCM media manager
i thort tony vidmar was central coasts marquee player?
f**k
anyway, we're better off the way we are.
we have a great group of talented players
come on phoenixxx
I think they might move Vidmar under the salary cap and
make Aloisi the marquee
or are they using the season-long injury clause?? (not sure who it
would be though)
Good point - I think Matthew Osman is out for the season, so
it could be for him...
You've got the wrong Aloisi the wrong Aloisi you've got the
wrong Aloisi.
I read this on yahoo just b4
Significantly, Aloisi's contract will not be included in the club's
salary cap - even though he has not signed as a marquee player.
The Mariners already have a marquee player in former Australian defender Tony Vidmar, but Aloisi has instead been recruited as a long-term injury replacement for Matthew Osman, who is out for the season with a knee injury.
yep, otherwise known as the "Sydney weasel clause"
That rule is a disgrace. Like the officiating, it makes the
A-League look more like a comedy routine than a football league.
well if a nix player is out 4 the season (touch wood they arent) we
shud sign an amazing player
