All these wanna be bloggers led by Diego's Son thinking they know what is going on with Football Politics.  The only thing that matters for Australia is thw WC, once the World Cup bid is won or lost Australia will have far greater leverage over the AFC and I suspect it could begin to get a little ugly.  I think the FFA is far more closely aligned with NZF than these guys would ever believe, based on promises made when Australia moved to Asia in the first place.  If the FFA wanted us out it would have happened last year when the licence was renewed, these guys are way off  track

That guy is just a moron. Who needs rational opinions when you can hysterical conspiracy? But just like many media commentators/bloggers/opinion piece writers, they write illinformed crap to stir up a reaction, to boost readership. It's like the blog-form of radio's shock jockey.

There's no option in the poll for "bluemagic's counterpart from the mirror universe".

Where's this rubbish come from that I'm some kind of puppet of Diego's Son?

I'm more than capable of having my own opinion and writing about it, backing it up with links and quotes to specific AFC releases that show they are not happy with Wellington being part of the league.

Never heard of Rick Giles before, but good call ;)

A-League teams should perform better in the ACL. That would be a good argument for more places.

Performance in the ACL has nothing to do with how ACL slots are calculated.

...and your sources are so powerful there's no need for you to cite them?

But seriously, are you aware that there is a body of opinion in footballing circles in this country which is precisely the opposite of your argument and that of Dingo's Son - that the current set-up is actually the FFA exploiting New Zealand football? (The theory being that the Phoenix takes valuable funding and attention away from the "honest Kiwi teams" in the NZFC.) Both sets of conspiracy theory can't be right at the same time.

Conspiracy theories aside, surely Australian football stands to benefit more from a quality, profitable and credible A-League, than from an extra ACL spot. And I think you will struggle to argue that the Phoenix do not add to the quality, profitable and credibility of the A-League. If forum comments I've seen elsewhere on the internet are anything to go by, more people want the Nix in the A-League than don't, with many stating the Nix are their number two side.

Asia's gripe is with Australia, and their future dominance of the confederation, not with the Phoenix. Why should they give a sh*t about the Phoenix?

Sources are linked in the article. There's also a historical record of the AFC being unhappy with Phoenix, and FIFA stepping in to say that there's no issue.

I wasn't aware of the other body of opinion, but it makes sense. I guess the only real advantage of the Phoenix right now is to placate a few thousand Wellingtonians (apologies if that's the incorrect demonym) and support the All Whites.

I see that NZF ARE funding the Wellington Reserves now, or at least have made a promise to shortly. In that sense I would agree with the opinion that Phoenix is diverting funding and attention away from where it's needed most - NZ football.

Wouldn't moving the Phoenix to a reformed New Zealand League make everyone happy? I don't see them as opposite arguments at all.

Except for the fact that apart from 2 NZFC franchises, noone else has any money.  For example, Waikato were treatening to pull out of the last NZFC season because they could afford it.  And that is a semi-professional league.

Matt I do look forward to your next piece outlining the occurances where AFC powerbrokers have actually suggested Australia being added to Asia (as opposed to your Finkesque conspiracy interpretations in this piece) was a mistake and you advocating a return to Oceania.

That solves all the problems.  It's okay, no thanks needed.

Best thing is to nibble a corner off, then spin it round and nibble another corner off and presto! A tim tam straw to drink your coffee through. Brilliant.

The real coalface is a Hudson's Chocolate chippie and a glass of cold milk.  Chit Chats are more you NZFC biscuit and that's not real coalface.  Real coalface is swamp like Kilbirnie at 15:00 on a Saturday with Sleet and Snow.

So Americans are ruining the Australian chocolate biscuit industry in the same way we're ruining Australian football?

They're almost as evil as us.

Ah - so I'd have my chit chats and cocoa at Te Whaea, but my choc chippie and milk (or Choysa Tea) at Kilbirnie.

Must 'fess up and say that my kids teams usually have tim tams at half time. We are obvioulsy Yanks/Ockers in disguise and taking away game time from honest Kiwi kids such as the Mar, IBU and BNU.

Same old Aussies, always disagreeing...

Maybe Matt Morris and Jesse Fink could have some kind Aussie bloggers celebrity death match and get back to us when they've come to an agreement on whether the Phoenix are:

a) sh*t (Morris)
b) sh*t hot!(Fink)

And of course, any decision will have to be given kudos by His Royal Highness Diego's Son before we poor, simple Kiwis pay any attention to it.

What's the name of those coconut tasting biscuts that have jagged edges? Was discussing this with Wumbo and the flatties but we couldn't figure it out.

Anyway yeah, those in Milo were always a favourite for me as a kid.
