Does anyone know how his trials are going or gone. He must of had a couple of things lined up to walk out of the u20 world cup squad to go over.

He looked a good prospect, had some flair and was able to take players on, not something many kiwi footballers can do.

Call me pedantic, but he's not a kiwi. He's Welsh but moved here aged 9. I don't he's great, he didnt impress for the knights, although for Canterbury United in the NZFC he did score a beauty when we bet Wellington 4-0 at English Park.

Winston Reid is a Maori lad from Northland and a Danish Under-20 rep.  Where you're born isn't important.

White was dropped from the final U-20 squad for the qualifiers, maybe he decided that a WC place wasn't coming so he'd try his career.

We need to harden up about this.  An U-20 side without James and a stack of other overseas based players beat Australia's Under-20's convincingly last year in Canberra (they won all but one half of a three game series).

Six of that Aus side have since made A-league starts.  At this rate not one of our side will be playing A-League this season.  How do we expect them to prove themselves with 5 minutes football at this level or none at all ?

White was significantly better than Richter last season yet Richter averaged over 60 minutes a match and White about 5, that's wrong.

Steven friggin' Hawking would have been better on the pitch than Jonti Rectum. He was diabolical, the worst of a bad bunch.
I agree that White needs more game time. Very few players make their debut at any level and are up to speed straight away. In fact, it's only the really special players that can do it. Give him time and he'll come right - like Brockie he's got the raw goods.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

White always made it look like something was going to happen, and like i said atleast he took players on, something not many kiwis can do.

As for Richter, how poor can a pro player be.

Can't agree with you more...apart from the fact that you have singled out Mike White. Vidosic and Spiranovic from that Aus U-20 team have signed for Nurenburg in Germany. It is almost certain that playing in the A-league helped their development that much more and made signing them that much easier of a decision of Nurenburg.

If you want an U-20 player to look out for have a look at Sam Jenkins...he has already signed for UC Canta Barbara...don't expect him back in New Zealand any time soon. Plays same position as Mike White.

good player michael white.  not many local lads with his pace, technique and willingness to get about the park.  it was sad to see him go - i just hope it wasn't a result of him not fitting the 'mould'.

I suppose I'm just not a great fan of Michael White because in round 3 of last season he gave away a pathetic free kick that led to Melbourne scoring a goal. But, after reading about the U-20 team that skinned the Aussies last year, and 6 of those Aussies have been able to start in the a-league, then It'd be fair to White to sign him up.

Lack of experience for these young kiwis could be fixed with the establishment of a youth academy or a development squad at every club in the A-league following the same fixtures as the main team, kinda like what they have in the NRL with the premier league.
