Nostalgia ain't what it used to be, but purveyors of Waikato football history may enjoy a trip down memory lane by visiting a new website devoted to memories from Muir Park in Hamilton.

www.muirpark.weebly.com

I imagine many of you here will be too young to remember Muir Park, but you could ask your dad.

It's far from complete (and more historic photos would certainly be welcomed) and will be a work in progress for many months yet - but has now taken enough shape for it to be mentioned in despatches.

It's a companion website of waikatofootballprogrammes.weebly.com

And sitterfanzine.weebly.com (the former feisty NZ football fanzine that ran from 1995 to 2005)

Wow that was interesting. Saw some names and faces there I have not heard for years.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Thanks for that Bruce, brought back many memories for me of the final years of Waikato United and Muir park when I was 11/12.

Tks Marto, you should also check out www.waikatofootballprogrammes.weebly.com

A lot of Waikato United and Hamilton stuff there as well, and ephemera from other clubs... latest entry is some great archival stuff from Tokoroa AFC in the mid-80s. It's growing every month, and there are now also some (non-Waikato) programmes for sale there.

Meanwhile the Muir Park site will have a lot of stuff added early next month.

I remember watching the Chatham Cup final there vs Christchurch which Waikato won (away goals after 2 draws), and many other Waikato games...and also playing there myself now and then for Hamilton (before it became part of Wanderers)...good times, shame that it wasnt kept, it could have been a useful ground these days (could have been hired out for ethnic tournaments etc as well)

For those of you who are into Waikato or national league football nostalgia I've added a lot more stuff  to the www.muirpark.weebly.com website recently.

Via the Articles button on the menu there are now links to a number of scanned match reports and newspaper articles from various years of Waikato United's existence.

For example, there are over 100 articles from the 1992 season when Waikato United finished runners-up in the national league and Chatham Cup, http://muirpark.weebly.com/1992.html

And over 60 from the 1995 season when The Bulls finished runners up in the final Superclub Championship.

There are also a few entries for 1996 and 1988, with more to come over the next couple of months. As time permits all of 1988-1996 will be completed, and then the Hamilton AFC era slowly attacked.

Happy reading.
