Wouldn't we in NZ just love to have this sort of facility for football development. We have heaps of talented youngsters...but they need the right facilities coaching to get them to the next level.
There is some good stuff going on in NZ but it all seems a bit disjointed.
Mind you some all weather pitches in Wellington would be a start. At least that way juniors would get to play a few games over winter.
We sort of have that facility being set up in wellington (just a tad smaler of course), but as you have said it is bit dis-jointed as a national collective.
There is a way, but I can't say and do much at this stage and that there are plans which is set up as we speak, howbeit much different to what I would do but nevertheless be close to what is needed at this stage and development. I would personally plan a different path to what they are doing for that foundation, but it's frankly going to take at least 10 year+ to get the steam going unless there are really power players involved. But there are other schemes that are currently looked at in the meanwhile.
But you do know that each NZFC franchise has an academy set up on the cheap as part of their NZFC licence? So we aren't too out of the way. the fancy properties are only part of the solution, it's what we can do for the players that counts. It's only about 15-20% of the problem.
