Next up, only Vodafone customers will be able to get Sky, Sky on Demand etc etc. when I was with Voadafone, theonly good thing was their T Box and recording stuff. Bloody brilliant but the rest explains why I got rid of them when we moved. They are as if not more expsenive thans Sky itself. Thank god I got a great deal with Trustpower for phone and broadband.

Bit confusing that the media are reporting it as Sky buying Vodafone but Vodafone will own 51%. How does that work?

The cash flows to Vodafone (because Sky actually have some) so technically Sky are "buying" Voda but that is a bit misleading.

Tom Pullar-Strecker sums it up fairly well: Sky TV would pay Vodafone $1.25b and issue Vodafone shares worth almost $2.19b in return for its shareholders getting a minority 49 per cent stake in the merged New Zealand pay-TV and phone firm, which would remain listed on the NZX and ASX. (http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/8087838...)

This also has a reasonably good explanation: http://www.nbr.co.nz/article/vodafone-take-51-stak...

So basically Sky bought Vodafone NZ to become Skodafone, and Vodafone got 51% of the shares to Skodafone in their part of the deal.

That is weird but basically Vodafone bought Sky right?  As Vodafone has the controlling share of Sky (now owning Vodafone NZ)

That's it in a nutshell.

Sweet thanks.

that wouldn't have crossed my mind because articles said stuff like Vodafone UK wants less invlvement in other countries etc. which implied that's why they sold to sky, but by taking on Sky NZ and Vodafone NZ in one beusiness they seem like they are expanding.

Weird reporting eysterday.

Yup... bastards have us (well, me) by the nuts.

Hopefully the don't "make" me move to Skodafone too (though I've nothing against Skoda's, as long as they've an RS badge lol).

Reading how SKY and Vodafone will combine their forces and that it "would be good for the consumers", I reckon New Zealand Football should be the third party in that joint venture.  They all have an amazing ability to run their businesses despite ignoring their clients' wishes.

Bring the NZF to the party for enhanced poor coverage of football, I say.

Not just a SKodafone, byt actually a SKodaFONZ.

I watched it live on Sky elsewhere.

I've checked my MySky recording; I had it series linked and it also recorded an 'episode' starting 8:25 pm (Sat) of the extra time and kicks from the penalty mark. [86 mins].

So you had to series link it, and then you get ET/Penos?

I wish I had known that, would've done that when recording.

Hows about telling us this stuff Sky. You pieces of sh*t.

What I tend to do with something that could go on longer like a knockout football match is manually set the next hour or so to record (go into the settings and manual record then you can set the channel and time to record etc).

So......I have yet to read ANYWHERE that Sky are providing EPL coverage next season.  Where are the facts. Mainstream media is devoid of any mention of it. Is this mere speculation because of the UK Sky deal?

Someone from Sky announced it on Radio Sport in the weekend, the link to the audio is in the thread in the English football section. There doesn't appear to have been a media release other than that yet but guess it won't be far away.

Havent the rights to the EPL been bought by a derivative company of Aljazeera? They dont currently have a platform in NZ to show it from so may use Sky to show it.....and for remuniration of course

Veitch and the Sky guy spoke for quite a while about it, at least 20 mins as i was driving.

They said there will 2 football channels at $11.96 per month, 1x predominantly EPL and the other with La Liga and another league (serie A maybe).

When there are 2 big games running at the same time, they will look to show one of the games on the other channel or even a pop up channel.

Also, by subscribing you will get access to an online site (Bein online or something) where you can log in and watch any game live. eg last day of the season.

I love their reasons for not having these tournaments on fan pass. That the schedule for the Euro's only came out in the days before it started, and that they didn't want to disrupt the other schedules (not that there's much other live sport on from 1am) . Both are quite laughable.

But in good news it seems like this is a fantastic deal. I'm stoked to be able to watch some La Liga as well

So for the last 2 years it has cost me $159 for 10 months of EPL games.

If I want to do it legally I am now back to a SKy subscription I dont want plus the cost of the EPL channel they will sell separately. $49/month plus $11/month, total $60/month which for 10 months coverage is $600.

So for me to do it legally I will have to go from $159 for a season to $600 for a season.

Looks like its back to watching illegal streams for me.

More interesting is Sky's claim they didn't have broadcast times for Euro 2016 until just before the tournament.

https://in-the-back-of-the.net/2016/06/14/um-sky/

That is just not true.

You can buy the online stream from Bein directly.. $18 per month. Thatll probably have CL and Serie A etc aswell. Thats ridiculously good value.

People are so quick to complain..

I read that too and laughed out loud, they really expect us to believe that, the draw Dec 12 last year and the Guardian (and I'm sure umpteen other media outlets) on the same day has a full draw published, teams, venue, times etc

if BeIn connect has games on demand then this is a great outcome. However I notice on the Australian site that they have "catch up games are available 3-6 hours after the game" which isn't great - can't wake up at 7 and watch a 4am game etc

when I read that about the euro schedule, I thought they were meaning because they didn't secure the rights until the last minute but they secured them 2 months ago https://www.sky.co.nz/-/mk_pressrelease_160412_2

it's quite clear that they have put them on the pop-up channel so people have to subscribe to the full sky to watch.

Jokes on them though I just watch streams on my apple tv from the bbc & itv

Yeah when they lie about why they've done it then you have to think that's the reason

they didn't lie, they just did a shark job with football.. pretty standard.

let me elaborate - I don't believe they showed any proactivity and they just waited for the broadcast schedule to be sent to them and then realised late that they hadn't got them so panicked and vola!

That or Kirsty was given the wrong info.

But I would say that I guess

so the schedule for these tournaments is only coming out a couple of days before the games. Right.

Root cause of the problem is a lack of understanding of football within the key departments, that and it's not obviously massively rating content either.
